Good staff - limited options resort
Good big resort. It is more of a vacation club than a hotel. They provided us no information of amenities at check-in. We were asked to collect all the info when they wanted to sell us a tour. Very limited restaurant options and food at the buffet was strictly ok. The ladies - Monse, Yare and Penny at kids club were extremely loving and one of the best during our trip. Staff is very helpful and resort is clean. Beach access is very nice and kids water park area was good fun for the kids. Rooms were great size with balcony and kitchen. Very comfortable. I wish we knew about all the amenities on day one instead of looking for them ourselves
Kids Club
The Kids Club at the Royal Sands is the best. My son had a spectacular time there everyday he went. The girls Monse, Yare, and Penny did a great job with my son entertaining him and taking care of him. Highly recommend the Kids Club.

Nice getaway!
We spent 10 wonderful days at this resort. The beach is calm and shallow for a while, but you can go deeper. We did have to dodge some kelp, but it wasn’t as bad as the Royal Sands, where the water is rough and the beach is cleared from seaweed but you can smell it and see it in the ocean. We spent a day at the Royal Sands (sister resort - free shuttle), and it’s a beautiful place, but we enjoyed the tranquility of this resort. The staff was very friendly, and we had a nice dinner at La Trattoria. We mainly cooked our own food. The condo was well-maintained for being an older resort, and we had pool access from our unit, which was small but convenient. It was easy to get around the resort. Overall, it would be a great choice for a peaceful holiday..

The Royal Cancun: bait and downgrade
Warning: Be very careful when booking your stay at The Royal Cancun. We booked and paid for a Villa—a large, two-story accommodation—through Priceline, but upon arrival, we were assigned a Suite, which is significantly smaller.
The experience at check-in was incredibly frustrating and felt like outright fraud. During the check-in process, the front desk staff explicitly assured us that our room was a Villa. However, when we made an inquiry at the support desk later, they provided proof that the room we had been assigned was actually classified as a Suite.
Because the price difference between a Villa and a Suite is USD 40 (CAD 59) per night, we were effectively duped by the resort's check-in staff. When we tried to address this, The Royal Cancun refused to resolve the issue, attempting to shift the blame to Priceline by claiming the wrong accommodation had been booked—despite the fact that our booking documentation clearly states "Villa."
We are currently working with Priceline to recover the price difference, which totals CAD 295. Between the deceptive communication from the staff and the lack of accountability from management, this was a disappointing experience.

One week in paradise
We had a great time. The Royal Cancun is a little dated, but very clean and the staff were excellent. Could've used a second bathroom and laundry in our unit, but other than that, it was a great accommodation.
