- Nizuc Spa and Resort

Modern and luxurious, yet with a distinctive Mayan style, this resort offers a resplendent seaside retreat on Riviera Maya. Visitors might take a guided excursion to the archaeological sites at Chichen-Itza, Coba and Tulum, or stay at the hotel to indulge at the spa, complete with fitness centre, beauty salon and meditation garden in addition to a sauna, ice fountain and several pools. Children will delight in the kids' club, while adults can experience a relaxing escape at the pristine white sand beach.
The lavish suites feature rich, contemporary décor, deluxe bathrooms with rainfall showers, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems. Each comes with a balcony with views of the turquoise sea, the protected mangrove reserve, or a private garden terrace, and some suites boast extravagant private pools. Guests can choose from six exclusive restaurants and three lounge bars, all for the ultimate Caribbean holiday.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Nizuc is by far our favorite hotel and this was our third visit. 20 minutes from the airport with private transfer makes for a quick and stress free travel day.
The staff is excellent and our butler, Alejandro, was very helpful making all of our dinner reservations and having our room service delivered quickly. Gabrriella at the spa gave a fantastic deep tissue massage.
The hotel is exceptionally clean and taken care of. We have stayed in many different room types and our favorite is the penthouse. Private pool on the rooftop, stunning sunset views, outdoor shower just to name a few things.
The hotel has a very relaxing vibe and is not a typical all inclusive party style property which is what we prefer.
Indochine is my favorite restaurant followed by Terra Nostra. Food quality is excellent, drinks are made with fresh juices, and service everywhere we go is top notch.
We will be back again soon!
This is our family’s fourth time back and truly, NIZUC feels like second home. The property is stunning and incredibly grounding, the food is always excellent though I would love to see more gluten free options. The staff are hands down the heart and the reason we continue to return.
Place is nice. Juan Pablo at the front desk was very helpful, so was Alex, our concierge. The buffet had surprisingly few options for a hotel that takes pride in their food. Overall good experience. All staff members exceptionally polite and accommodating. I would come back.
Let me preface this by saying that I have been to Mexico countless times and have been to the best resorts on the Riviera Maya, Cancun, Cabo, and many other Mexican beach resort areas. I really wanted to like Nizuc because the reviews I had read were excellent. Unfortunately this resort does not in any way live up to my expectations and 5 star resort standards. The resort’s aesthetic is very zen, almost like you were in Bali. The pools are dark colored and the decor is heavy on dark wood. It is beautiful but does not feel like a tropical Mexican beach resort. There are mangroves all over the property and you must be driven in a golf cart from building to building (you could walk the long distances but would pass out from the heat and be eaten alive by bugs) . But the most important drawback for this resort is the fact that it basically has no beach. There are two beach areas and both are TINY. At the La Punta beach area swimming was prohibited and the beach area was about as long as a lounge chair and rocky. In the other “larger” beach area, the water is murky because you are very close to a large coral reef, and the area is on an inlet so there is so breeze and no real “beach” to play in the sand or swim. This was deeply disappointing as spending time on the beach and in the ocean is one of the main reasons I like to go on beach vacations. The pool area was no more relaxing as the pools have more of a “plunge pool” vibe and are clearly not really intended for swimming. They are dark and have an infinity pool look to them that was fine for taking a quick dip but that was about it.
Finally, the resort pricing was insane. I am from NYC and am used to very expensive restaurants and spas, but the pricing here was beyond comprehension. A 70min massage at the spa was priced at $400, lunch for 3 with no alcohol in the Peruvian restaurant on property (which was by far the best restaurant at the hotel and was excellent) was $300 and we were still hungry when we left because the portions were quite small. We ended up going to dinner offsite almost every night because we felt there were more beautiful and better options outside of the hotel. The fact that this hotel is technically on the hotel strip of Cancun made that an option, which usually is not available if you are staying on the Riviera Maya where resorts are spread out and not meant to be left.
The resort is amazing, the atmosphere is serene and luxurious. Juan Pablo was incredible, he took care of all our requests and needs. We had an amazing time at the nizuk and hope to be back!
