GR Caribe by Solaris

Been a member for over 13 years now, and I've always had great service. I love that they finally made it adults-only. The new Tavo restaurant is amazing, and Carlos is a fantastic waiter. The spa is always good, and Leo gives amazing Swedish massage. House keeping is wonderful, and the pool staff is always fun to be with.

Booked directly with the hotel. We paid extra and reserved an ocean view king room, all inclusive. We stayed here to check it out for future reference. Felt misled from the start. Hotel advertises “free airport shuttle” which was a huge draw only to find out in my booking confirmation that airport shuttle is only available from the airport, not to the airport, and only if you’re staying 4 plus days. Loss #1.

Upon arrival one person was checking people in and their check in process took at least 15 min per person. Waited a good half an hour before we got our turn and ended up missing the lunch time. Loss #2.

Got recommended a room and was told come back if you don’t like it. Got to room and it has two double beds and a partial ocean view. Went back to front desk, had to again wait, and was told that rooms are subject to availability. They tried to point this out on my reservation email, but could not. They had no king rooms available. He offered to try to help with a different room, but was helping another couple check in so we would have to wait again. We had already waited so long and were so tired we just settled for the lesser room. We paid about $100 usd more per night for a room we did not get. Loss #3.

Everything you need at the resort is handled through an app. I downloaded the app to make dinner reservations as it’s the only way to do so. The app errors out when I try to login. Tells me I need to get help from the front desk. More time wasted.

Guy at a desk near reception tried to help me with the app. Got it working only for it to not work when I tried to make a dinner reservation. Turns out even though we were able to book and pay a one night stay all inclusive, the only thing that would be available to us is the dinner buffet.

A supervisor came and ultimately was able to get us a reservation at one of the restaurants. Unfortunately, when we looked up the restaurant it had terrible reviews making us reluctant to go there. Would be an absolute waste of time to try and change it since I can’t use their app and would have to go stand in line again at reception. Ended up walking to a nearby restaurant not on the property.

Hotel looks beautiful upon arrival. Our room is just ok. Windows aren’t clean. There’s a table and chairs that are plastic and meant for the outdoors. No biggie, just super tacky. Only one pillow per bed. Says we should have a “stocked mini fridge” there’s some soda and beer in there but I would not describe it as stocked.

Some drilling noise and pounding interrupted our nap once we were finally settled.

Was hoping to like this place since we are in mexico 2-3 times per year, but it was one disappointment after another. We got absolutely nothing but a room to sleep in for $300 usd. You can 100% book a better stay for the money. Wish we had stayed elsewhere. Especially the all inclusive isn’t worth it.
