A special family holiday at Taj Bentota
Taj Bentota has become one of our favourite places! We first visited last August and enjoyed it so much that we had to come back again. We had another amazing stay and honestly the staff are what make this hotel so special. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, especially with our kids, and they really made our holiday.
The Palms restaurant was great and definitely exceeded our expectations. Sisil, Asiri, Damith and Sam were all amazing. They were always so friendly and funny and would go out of their way to look after us. We really enjoyed seeing and speaking to them every day and got to know them really well during our stay. A big mention to Chef Dilip who left no stone unturned to fulfil our dining experience. My husband requested different dishes that were not on the menu- and dilip and his team made sure it was made by the evening. The variety at the Palm restaurant was always vast with plenty of vegetarian food on offer for me who is very fussy. We were delightful that Chef dip won an award in for best chef while we were there at an event in Jaipur. While he was away, junior chefs Jasvir and Sharad looked after us very well, already knowing what we like and it was made fresh. I even asked for them to make my Indian tea slightly different and it was made so well: we very much appreciated all of them. They outdo themselves and are an asset to Taj Bentota. Thank you
The Shack had the best atmosphere and environment to eat, out in the open. Manoj, the manager, was absolutely lovely. The food was amazing every time and my husband said the lobster was the best he has ever had! Manoj also organised a really nice dinner for our family one evening which we appreciated so much. He was brilliant with our kids as well and would even come and play volleyball with them. Such a genuinely kind person and we loved getting to know him.
Amila was also amazing with our whole family. He always had a smile on his face and would stop to talk to us and the kids. He told us about the annual staff cricket match and made sure we came along. Our son even ended up joining in and playing with the team, which was such a great experience for him! Amila also played volleyball with the kids most days and was always so kind to them. We absolutely loved him!
Kannangara was another person who really went above and beyond for us. One day there wasn’t any coconut water available and he actually went out of his way to find some for our kids. It was such a small thing but really showed how much he cared. We also had some really nice conversations with him throughout our stay.
Sampath by the pool was brilliant too. He was always there to help us with the sunbeds and we had some great chats with him. He was so welcoming from the start. One day he even showed us a water tornado out at sea which we all thought was really cool!
We also have to mention the whole gym and sports team because they were fantastic with the children. They played volleyball with them pretty much every day, always made them laugh and made such an effort to include them. One of our son’s favourite memories was getting to play in the staff cricket match with them. They welcomed him straight into the team and made the whole experience so much fun for him.
We especially got to know Janaka and Neraushan, who were both amazing, and also want to thank Thranidu, Kavith, Meneke, Savith and Dineth. The whole team were so friendly and great with our family.
There is so much we love about Taj Bentota – the location, the food, the activities and the hotel itself – but for us it’s definitely the people that make us want to come back. So many of the staff remembered us, took time to speak to us and made such an effort with the children. By the end of the holiday it really felt like we knew everyone rather than just being guests at a hotel.
Thank you to everyone at Taj Bentota for another amazing holiday. We loved coming back and made even more great memories this time. Hopefully we’ll be back again soon!

I guess words will never be enough to justify the feeling. The hospitality 100/10 ya 100 on 10 it's not a mistake Food 10/10 - a special thanks to Chef Dalip - head chef of Indian cuisine. He is always on his toes to serve you the best. My POV is he's a good chef not because of his skills but because of his good heart. Staff 100/10 Hygiene 10/10 Personal touch 10/10 They value your time, your vacation and your choices. All in all I'm sad for leaving. I recommend you this for sure.
Unforgettable Family Holiday with World-Class Hospitality and Food
We visited Taj Bentota for our family summer holiday—traveling as a family of five with three kids—and it completely exceeded our expectations. If I could rate this property higher than 5 stars, I would. From the moment we arrived, the entire team made us feel instantly at home. The warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care across the resort were truly exceptional, but the culinary experience took our stay to another level entirely. A massive, heartfelt thank you goes to Sous Chef Dalip Singh Parihar and his incredible team, including Junior Sous Chefs Jasvir Singh and Shravan. Traveling with three kids can sometimes make dining tricky, but Chef Dalip made us feel like royalty. He went out of his way to prepare authentic, off-menu regional dishes that felt like comfort food straight from home. The food was nothing short of brilliant. From piping-hot aloo parathas and crisp aloo pooris at breakfast to rich, authentic Punjabi kadhi pakora, flavorful lamb curry, and outstanding traditional butter chicken on the bone for dinner, every single bite was memorable. The passion, care, and personal attention Chef Dalip, Jasvir, and Shravan showed our family left a lasting impression. Taj Bentota is a gorgeous resort, but it is the people who make it extraordinary. We made memories that will stay with us for a lifetime and cannot wait to return.

Wonderful Hospitality by Chef Dalip Singh
Our family’s stay at the Taj Bentota Resort & Spa was made truly extraordinary, all thanks to the incredible warmth and unmatched talent of Head Chef Dalip Singh. We were visiting to celebrate my mother’s milestone 50th birthday, an occasion we wanted to be deeply special. Chef Dalip did not just meet our expectations—he completely blew them away and made it one of the absolute best birthdays my mother has ever had.The evening was set beautifully by the pool, a lovely arrangement perfectly coordinated by the Director of Food & Beverage, S. Sureshkannah, and seamlessly served by our wonderful waiters, Rusan and Chandana, who kept our glasses full and took great care of us throughout the meal. But the true soul of our experience was entirely down to Chef Dalip. From our very first interaction, he made us feel completely at home. He took the time to curate and personally prepare a magnificent, beautiful spread of both authentic Indian and Sri Lankan dishes just for us. Every single item on the table was a culinary masterpiece, perfectly balancing flavors and showcasing his immense expertise.What truly sets Chef Dalip apart, however, is his genuine passion for hospitality and his wonderful personality. He is an absolute delight to talk to. He generously spent time sitting with our family, sharing fascinating insights into Sri Lankan culture, the rich history behind the local food, and the beautiful cultural similarities and contrasts between Indian and Sri Lankan cuisines. His storytelling and warmth turned the meal into an educational and deeply moving experience. It felt less like a hotel dinner and more like being hosted by a close, lifelong friend who wanted nothing more than to make our evening perfect.His personal touch, kindness, and exceptional culinary craft turned a birthday dinner into a core memory that our family will cherish forever.
