This 4 star property is perched on a cliff right on the Atlantic Ocean Front in the fascinating and natural village of Caniço de Baixo. The breathtaking views over the Atlantic contribute to the charm of this hotel. From the Hotel Rocamar it takes only a few minutes to walk to the Reis Magos beach or even the village of Caniço.
The Rocamar Hotel is only 9 km drive from Madeira's International Airport, 10 km drive from Funchal city, 8 km from Palheiro Golf and 15km from Santo da Serra Golf Course.
The Rocamar Hotel has a total of 99 rooms: 37 Land View Rooms and 62 Sea View Rooms; all rooms are equipped with private bathroom with bathtub or shower and hairdryer, balcony or terrace, telephone, satellite TV, safety deposit box (rented), air conditioning and mini-fridge.
Facilities: 1 Panoramic Restaurant, 1 Bar, 1 outdoor pool with sea water, private and direct access to the sea through stairs and private shuttle bus to/from Funchal (extra charge and except saturdays, sundays and public holidays). Free Internet Wi-Fi in the lobby, bars and its terraces. The facilities of the Royal Orchid and Cais da Oliveira Hotels are available to the Rocamar Hotel guests.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We had a lovely week at Roca Mar. The ability to use the facilities of all three hotels was really helpful and meant we had plenty of space and pools to choose from. Proximity to the sea is wonderful and the restaurant location is great for sunsets. There is a decent bus service into Funchal from just up the road. There are supermarkets within a few minutes' walk (although it's a very hilly walk!) and several decent restaurants nearby too. We would go back.
Good quality hotel but lack of facilities. The choice of food was very limited at meal times and the quality not great. Only having one bar which is situated well away from the swimming pools is ideal. Rooms good quality and clean.
Hubby and myself are staying at the Roca Mar at present. We really like it. It's extremely clean, the out door areas and gardens are immaculate and tidy. The rooms are exceptionally clean the beds are comfy, showers are as hot as you want them to be. The staff are all very friendly and pleasant. We're here just for breakfast which is buffet style and caters for different nationalities. We've eaten dinner twice in the restaurant on site Lee Hamilton the food and menu choice is superb. We haven't used any of the SPA or Gym facilities but the area they're in is very nice. The platform areas for access to the pools and sunbathing is fabulous. Can't fault it, lovely place.
We booked this hotel specifically for the amenities, and from the moment we arrived it was clear this was a mistake.
The bathroom smelled like someone had just taken the biggest dump imaginable—not slightly unpleasant, but overwhelming. On top of that, the shower clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly, with hair and debris still present, which is basic hygiene and completely unacceptable.
The room itself felt tired and neglected. The hair dryer looked like it was manufactured in the 1970s and barely functional. Overall, the experience honestly resembled a two-star resort in Cuba, not what was implied by the price or the photos.
We chose this hotel for the amenities, yet the pool closes at 8:00 PM and the sauna is only open from 4:00–8:00 PM, making them largely unusable unless you plan your day around the hotel’s restrictive schedule. Advertising amenities that are only available for a narrow window feels misleading.
This hotel overpromises and underdelivers. Cleanliness, basic upkeep, and realistic expectations were all missing here.

Been here for a week. Room no 637 just off reception on the 6th floor. Nice room. Very comfy. Hotel staff, especially reception very helpful and breakfast if excellent and a great selection. Outdoor seating if you want it gives you a wonderful view out to see. We booked 3 trips with sunrise via reception and all were fantastic. Nuns valley, east coast and west coast tours. All brilliant. The shuttle from the hotel at €7.50 pp is great value. Pick up at 9:30 and brings you back at 5pm. Drops you off at the cable car up to Monte Palace €22 each return and the palace entrance is €18 pp. great place to visit and the cable car ride is long. The hotel lacks a bit of soul as not many people around as I think many go on walking trips but the views and sunbed areas and pools are kept well and no trouble getting one. Restaurants are 100 mtrs away. Turn left out of receptio and go up the hill and turn right. All good and so is the first umbrella bar
