First time visit to Madeira and our stay at Hotel Riu was excellent. It took around 15 minutes by taxi from the airport and the hotel is located in a nice area with local shops 5-10 minutes walk away. The hotel itself is well decorated with nice comfortable rooms, very large restaurant which serves excellent choices of food for everyone, we had many different age groups from 7 to 78 and everyone was extremely pleased with breakfast, lunch and dinner...... The bar is open 24/7 and longest wait I had any evening was 5 minutes............ The staff are 11/10 and the most polite and helpful people you could ask for whether its waiters, cleaners or reception the staff deserve praise for making this hotel more like 6 stars. Free bus trips into Funchal which is a must do and could spend hours writing this review but will simply say:
You will not be disappointed with the staff, food, drink, rooms and the value for money as a All Inclusive Resort..........
We have visited this wonderful hotel twice a year since 2010, what is the reason why we keep on returning? The lovely staff who make us very welcome and nothing is too much trouble and always a big smile.
You know that when the staff stay for years the hotel is run like clockwork, the cleanliness is top notch and everything is done to a very high standard.
There is big choice of food in the main restaurant, Pedro the head chef and the other chefs are accommodating and on hand to answer any questions you may have if you have any food intolerances. The staff here always know what wine and water you always have without asking. They are extremely friendly and again we would like to say thank you all for the help given with my husband Michael in the wheelchair during our stay.
The Kulinarium Restaurant is very nice, very good wines - thank you Dinarte, the manager of the restaurant and his wife Grace, also the other staff there.
The team on the reception are very knowledgeable, always willing and extremely helpful thank you for everything you did to ensure our stay went smoothly. We are treated like family whenever we visit.
Alexandra the manager and Agostinho the assistant manager are always on hand and it is our pleasure to know them, your kindness goes above and beyond expectations.
We would like to thank Victor the bar manager for ensuring we have a suitable table in the theatre to accommodate the wheelchair.
Not forgetting Mimi the resident hotel cat who is a true diva and loves a cuddle.
Now we are counting down the days to our next visit ❤️😎
Highly recommend this fabulous hotel, we went with friends after an unpleasant trip to greece but this more than made up for it. 10/10, staff, location, quality of room.
We arrived here near the end of May for 10 night stay, but ended up staying for 14 nights due to our return easyjet flight being cancelled. The staff are all very professional, friendly & helpful. The cleanliness of the whole hotel & outside areas was outstanding We had booked with Tui & must thank our rep Gene who was brilliant in arranging our extended stay at the hotel after our flight was cancelled! The food options in the main restaurant were huge & very good (especially dessert) for an all inclusive. Thank you to all the chefs, it must be so hard catering for various ages & nationalities! There is a free bookable return bus to Funchal, which was very handy. We wanted to say a special thank you to the following ; Marilda, who often served us at breakfast & lunch; A big thank you to Edson, who mainly looked after us at dinner. He was exceptional! He was always so friendly & professional! One night we ate at the Kulinarium restaurant situated in the hotel. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food, again service fantastic! As for the entertainment, it is very hit & miss, however if you love Peter Kayes Phoenix Nights you'll enjoy for all the wrong reasons!
As for the entertainment, it was hit & miss,
I cannot praise Hotel Riu Madeira highly enough. Everything that we experienced from check in on day one to checking out on our last day was wonderful. The location was beautiful, set right on the sea, and the hotel itself was spotless. We stayed in a suite and this was gorgeous. The food was delicious and there was such a variety every day. Many of the days we decided to have our lunch in Pepe’s Grill and this was beautiful. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and were always there to offer a smile and assist when needed. Whilst the hotel itself was big, there was a lovely community feel to it. There were always plenty of sunbeds available each day, even when going to the pool for the first time in the afternoon after a day trip. There was never any noise around any communal area and the whole setting was just so peaceful. Having multiple free shuttles available each day was brilliant and saved us the expense of a taxi. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the hotel whatsoever. Thank you for making this such a special trip and for all the happy memories which will last us a lifetime. We will definitely return! :)
