What a fantastic stay from the time we arrived! It actually looked better the the photos when we got there. We arrived before our room was ready and had a quick snack and drink at the pool area. Great start with a Portugeuse steak sandwich and Coral! Our room was spacious and spotless with plenty of space for packing and a nice bathroom and balcony area. The breakfasts were second to none with loads of choice and different items daily for every dietary need. Reception staff were really helpful, especially the young learner Gus who was very enthusiastic. The sister hotel had a great bar for the evening with live music and a great sea view. We never really used the spa facilities as they were quite busy due to loads of mostly Americans using them for health and wellbeing sessions which was not mentioned on when booking, yet didn't spoil anything as we were out in the capital nearly every day using the efficient bus service next to the hotel. Pool was immaculate and loas of room, even though the hotel was bustling with people! A great stay and I'd say it was four star plus.
This is a nice hotel built on the side of the cliff, so if you are in a lower room there are lots of lifts involved in getting to your room. Our room was enormous with a bathroom and sitting room. It was on the cold side, but staff provided a heater and blankets which was a great improvement. The restaurant was good and the buffet evening meal very good value. The hotel is attached to the Atlantis restaurant across the road. You access this via a lift down the cliff. It was rather formal and we thought poor value. The pools looked good, but we didn’t try them. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Lower Canico is a bit out of the way and if staying there you really do need a car.
What a lovely hotel this is in so many ways.
The staff are an absolute credit to what is clearly a very well run hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful throughout our nine day stay.
The location is beautiful overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, close to Funchal (5 Euro return bus journey), several local restaurants and a small supermarket.
Rooms are clean and well equipped, not luxurious or indulgent, but with good modern walk in showers, comfortable beds, English TV channels, tea and coffee making and pool towels.
We stayed B&B as we are no fans of buffet restaurant food. Breakfast is superb with plenty of fresh and healthy choices to choose from in a lovely restaurant area with both indoor and outdoor seating by the pool. The onsite a la carte restaurants are excellent, the Ribeye steak in the Atlantis is superb and the cost with dessert is around 30 Euro (strangely the same price as the evening buffet). Food in the pizza restaurant is equally as good and lunchtime snacks in the Blue Bar are excellent. We dined once in the evening buffet restaurant and found the main course options quite lacking and rather disappointing.
We primarily chose the Sentido Galasol for its health and fitness facilities and Spa - we were delighted to find that these were excellent. Not your average excuse for a hotel gym but a fully equipped health club with a well equipped gym, several studios, a full schedule of classes, saunas, steam, plunge pool, jacuzzi and indoor pool. We used the club twice daily during our stay and received first class service from the staff, complimentary towels for gym, pool and sauna. Special mention must go to the team at the club who were so welcoming and friendly to us.
Thank you to all the team at the Sentido Galasol
A wonderful hotel complex on the seafront with good transport links and surrounding area. The staff are lovely and always willing to help and advise customers. The breakfast buffet service was excellent, very varied, and on at a reasonable time. The access to the sea was very convenient and there are several pools to use alongside this. The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was very modern. We liked that they are an 'eco' hotel and therefore have water bottle filling stations around the hotel. We also enjoyed the gym classes. Overall very pleasant stay and would definitely return!
The Senttido Galosol is located on a headland about a 15 minute bus journey from Canico, the surrounding area is mainly residential with few amenities for tourists. The hotel has a pleasant sunbathing area with an adjoining snack bar, there are plenty of sunbeds but the pool is small. Guest rooms are basic with a capital B - open wardrobe area, no drawer space and minute bedside tables. Bathroom is small as is the balcony. Breakfast and Dinner are buffet style - there is a variety of choice but most hot food is overcooked or of the fast food variety. Surprisingly this hotel does not have a bar for after dinner socialising (the one at the pool closes early) or to retreat to during inclement weather. During our stay there were 3 days of storms when venturing out was impossible leaving you with a choice of sitting in a small not very comfortable recessed area off a busy corridor or retiring to your room.
