This is only related to the restaurant Sentido in the Galo pool swimming. Services very poor, food not tasty, some employees only talk in English. The major problem is the food.
Overall enjoyed a week here at the end of September. The room was fine, large bed and modern bathroom. The room was supposed to be one with a 'sea-view' but sea was only visible across the pool. Ask for a room higher up. The pool filtration equipment runs 24/7 which means you have to keep the sliding door closed. The pool is good though as its salt water but it is quite small.
Breakfast is served in the Atlantis restaurant, has a good and varied choice. Don't miss having lunch or dinner here as the food and service is outstanding, along with the view.
All of the staff were very helpful and friendly with one exception. That that was on our arrival. The person on reception gave a very negative impression, they really didn't want to be there, reeling off a list of what was where and whether is was available in a very dull monotone delivery. Thankfully this was an exception. We then made our way to the Capoeira Bar where we were welcomed as valued guests by the lovely staff there.
We stayed here for 2 weeks in October (Jet 2 package holiday). The hotel staff were always pleasant - polite and extremely helpful. We had a garden room which had partial view of pool. The room was clean and comfortable a little limited on storage when staying 2 weeks (but this did not bother us) the bathroom was large and clean. The bed & pillows were extremely comfortable. We were bed & breakfast, so can only comment on breakfast (lots of choice and very tasty) The views from breakfast area were fabulous lovely sunrise views across ocean. We used the spa twice (4 different types of massage) the prices were sensible and the staff were very good (Carolina completed my massages she was excellent) . The pool is not heated but the whole pool area is lovely. The hotel is in fabulous location for those keen on watersports snorkeling, diving and canoeing and the location is much quieter than Funchal. It cost 2 euro 60 cents for the bus to funchal (bus stop short distance from hotel). Or 20 euro for a taxi. We had hire car for 1 week there is street parking (prices very sensible parking charges only apply between 8am to 7pm and it's free after 2pm Saturday and all day sunday) I would definitely recommend this hotel to family or friends who are visiting Maderia.
The checkin process took around 20 minutes. We had booked a garden room for one night and had another reservation for a seaview room for the second night. It was not possible to stay both nights in the seaview room. We noticed that there were lots of ants crawling on the wall. We called reception and they said they would send someone to fix it. After half an hour, the guy arrived with a bottle of spray, which he sprayed on the ants. The spray made the room smell bad. What's more, ants were still crawling up and down the air conditioning unit. We called reception again and they gave us a new room. In the morning, when I was going to make instant coffee, I discovered ants around the coffee mugs. Reception also told us that our luggage would automatically be moved from the room to the new room. When we returned to the hotel after sightseeing in Funchal, our luggage was not in the new room. Nor was it in the luggage room. The lady from reception went down to the old room and there it was. The breakfast was plentiful and it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the view while we ate. The saunas were also good. I would never stay at this hotel again. It wasn't worth €100 per person per night.
After a long day we arrived to receive a warm and very relaxed welcome from the team at reception. Lovely hotel with a fantastic room commanding beautiful views across the grounds and sea. We had a truly wonderful week here in santido Galomar and across the island itself. All the staff were excellent and genuine. Room, excellent. Food, both at breakfast and buffet dinner excellent throughout the week and all set in a lovely environment. We really had an enjoyable week and thoroughly recommend this hotel and if you want tranquility, excellent service, food and just a great base after getting out and about on this beautiful island
