The hotel is great the staff are very friendly. We got a deluxe double with garden view the it had a nice deck and pretty good shade. Breakfast was included and was good. One thing they didn’t have was drink stand down by the ocean where they had a great little beach with awesome snorkeling!!
I booked Baan Krating to have a peaceful stay for 2 nights to recover from the long trip to Thailand & to see what the Rawai area would be like for future visits. While the accommodation is of a high quality, spacious & comfortable with beautiful ocean views, the resort is too isolated. The road to get there is narrow with construction going on & as such we had to make use of taxis to get anywhere & the charges were the highest I have ever paid - 1400THB to go for dinner & back to a restaurant 5km away. No responses from In Drive & I presume that was because of where the resort is situated. The breakfasts are mediocre & service at the restaurant non existent. The staff in general speak very little English & when we reported that the coffee cups & glasses used in the room had not been cleaned it took 3 different staff members arriving before someone could get an idea of what our complaint was. The main reason I would never book this resort again is that we had close encounters with snakes twice in 2 days. Yes, the resort is surrounded by lush forest but having a cobra on the walkway to the room, which is not well lit at night & some sort of giant constrictor in the garden near our room does not make for a peaceful stay
The hotel, location, and beach are ok. I experienced theft at the hotel. I believe my item was stolen. I'm not sure because the employee didn't show me the security camera video.
One day, I left my item on the hotel grounds. The next day, I went to the front desk with the problem.
A staff member, Matt, said I'd have to wait a while to check the security cameras. I've now been waiting at the front desk for over three hours. The employee became angry and rude. The employee didn't try to help me. I investigated on my own: I searched and asked other hotel guests if they'd found my item.
To my questions like, "How long do I have to wait to see the video or get help? About 1-2 hours or a few weeks?" he replied, "I don't know." I asked, "Who knows?" and he replied, "I don't know." To every question, he said he didn't know. Then the employee got angry at my questions, yelled at me, and was rude to me. I didn't receive any help, and my item remained stolen.
This hotel is budget friendly and has the potential to be really lovely. The location is great, very quiet, right in the rain forest and away from the town, Unless you hire a car or scooter it is either a 15 minute walk up and down some very steep hills or the hotel shuttle which runs a few time a day from 10:00 until 17:00. It has a lovely beach with sun loungers on a terrace above. There is an infinity pool which is lovely. It cascades into a smaller lower pool which unfortunately lets it down as there is green algae all around the edge. There are two types of room. The first being jungle bungalows which are rustic. They are fine if you are on a tight budget as they are reasonably priced. On the plus side the room we had was equipped with aircon and a very comfortable king size bed. Not so good was that there was no room for a second bedside table. There was no hot water plumbed to the sink and if there was hot water plumbed to the shower it didn’t work. It was also sadly lacking in electrical points. If you can overlook these issues the room was fine but needs updating. The second type of rooms are the ‘Pavillions’. Brick and concrete structures built into the hillside. When we asked to upgrade the manager was very helpful and found us a vacant room which was much larger, and much more confortable. The hotel restaurant served breakfast for those on a B&B basis. But very few guests ate there in the evening. Despite this being quite a nice hotel it was let down by some of the standards. The cleaning wasn’t very thorough, and particularly at breakfast the staff didn’t clear plates from the tables. The reception staff weren’t briefed properly and gave conflicting advice. When we checked out we were told that we could not use a free room to shower in but had to use the pool shower. But a member of the management team was much more accommodating .The lady who handles the taxi bookings and day trips was mostly texting or on her phone and didn’t stop to deal with my request. I know that I am being particularly critical as on the whole it is very good value for money but if the service and cleaning were taken up a notch it could be considerably better.
