Writing a review often reflects the personal experience and perception of someone who has stayed at a hotel for a short period of time. This is why I tend to overlook one-star reviews; they often highlight minor issues that don’t accurately represent the overall experience and serve mainly to vent frustration. I mention this because I aim to provide an honest review that considers the entire experience and what you can expect from a 4* hotel in Phuket, Kata beach. Hotel WEKATA is a relatively new hotel (opened 2021 or 2022) located on the bustling Kata Road, it is surrounded by a vibrant mix of hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, shops, night market and massage parlors. The reception and lobby area are neatly and functionally furnished. Not really large or inviting, but it serves its purpose. Our check-in experience was quick and professional. The only downside was that they required the deposit in cash. This felt unusual, as I typically use a credit card for such transactions, which is commonly accepted worldwide. It seemed a bit outdated. We stayed on the 5th and 7th floor, both junior suites, corner rooms. While they were comfortable, the views were not exceptional, offering only glimpses of surrounding buildings, Kata Road and some mountains in the distance. The rooms are spacious, featuring both a sleeping area and a generous kitchen / sitting area, with laminated flooring. No minibar but a small refrigerator. Cups, plates, and cutlery, but strangely enough, no pots or pans for the electric stovetop. A sink and microwave oven, sofa, 2 tv’s (sitting area and bedroom), table and 4 chairs, floor-to-ceiling windows. A kettle is available for coffee and tea, with daily replenishment provided. The bedroom featured a balcony, ample storage for clothing, both net and blackout curtains, wall sockets and a safe. Both air conditioners (living room / bedroom) functioned perfectly. The bathroom (wasn’t big) with a bath and rain shower, amenities, towels (fairly poor quality) and bath towels for the pool or beach. No washcloths or body lotion. But....they had flip-flops. I did not see a complimentary gym available for guests. There’s even a kid’s corner. The breakfast room is offering a variety of seating options (inside/outside). Free seat selection. The main breakfast is served buffet-style, featuring Western and Asian cuisine (with a strong emphasis on delicious local Asian dishes). Egg-station, fresh fruit, bread, yogurt, and juices. The food quality is good, and replenishment is consistently managed. Overall, it’s very well cared for. Funny fact: The number of Russian visitors at the hotel—and across Phuket—was quite remarkable. It's surprising, given that Phuket isn't typically regarded as the most stunning holiday destination in the world. However, I did notice their enthusiasm for watermelon. Plates were overflowing with it! This trend also appears in Turkish hotels, where Russian guests similarly fill their plates with watermelon. I never discovered the reason behind this fascination. Like said, this review reflects our expectations for the 4* hotel WEKATA in Phuket. Phuket is like any other popular, inexpensive holiday destination. (e.g. Costas in Spain: Lloret de Mar, El Arenal (Mallorca) and Albufeira, Chersonissos (Crete), Cancun in Mexico). Expect a "holiday" hotel that can offer everything necessary, that is neat and has enough to offer for a beach holiday. We did not used the two swimming pools. We enjoyed our four-night stay with no complaints.
