A Relaxing Family Stay in Krabi

We stayed at Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra for a week as a family during the school holiday. The resort has a beautiful, classic feel and a peaceful setting, making it a lovely place to slow down and enjoy time together. We visited in mid-October and had lovely sunny weather during the day, with rain on a few evenings.

With our Accor status, we were invited to check in at the lounge, and the arrival process was smooth. I had seen YouTube videos suggesting the rooms might feel dated, so I was pleasantly surprised by how well maintained ours was. We had connecting rooms, which worked very well for our family. The rooms were spacious, the air conditioning worked well without being noisy, and the children loved having a room of their own. Our balcony also opened onto the garden, which was very convenient. Room cleaning was done well, and the laundry service was very efficient.

The swimming pool is a real highlight, with a floating play area and activities for guests. The beach is just across the road, although hotel service there is limited: there are no lifeguards, towels or food and drink service on the beach.

Ao Nang and other attractions are about 15–30 minutes away by Grab, depending on where you are going. There are also some basic local restaurants and services within a 5–10-minute walk, which we found useful.

Breakfast had a broad selection of Chinese, Western, Indian and Thai dishes, along with fruit and even some sushi. The spacious restaurant was well maintained, and overall the breakfast was in line with—or better than—we would expect from a five-star resort. A few things could be improved: I would have liked to see salmon, and the bacon was quite dry. Local coconut jam, dried nuts and a wider selection of nut spreads for bread would also be nice additions.

For food by the pool and room service, we found the portion sizes smaller than we would typically expect. Hotel services and activities, including island trips and other popular excursions, can also feel expensive compared with nearby options. The resort offers activities such as padel, tennis and golf, and overall it is well suited to a peaceful family holiday. Krabi has fewer nightlife and shopping options than Phuket, so this resort is a better fit for a relaxed break than for a trip focused on nightlife or shopping.
