Our stay at this resort was absolutely amazing! More than 5 stars! The resort truly has everything you could ask for—beautiful and spacious rooms, excellent facilities, fantastic and giant pool with all kind of water sports. delicious food with large variety and a relaxing atmosphere. Our daughter have Celiac disease and they made her special gluten free food all day long. We appreciate them truly. What made our experience truly exceptional was the outstanding service. Every member of the staff was warm, friendly, professional, and always willing to help with a smile. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a perfect stay. We felt really welcome and it was incredible. We highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious and unforgettable vacation.
Perfect stay .. all thanks to Boom, moddang and vivi ..
A lovely hotel with fantastic staff. Top-notch service, 10/10. We stayed here for two weeks with two children, aged 11 and 14. There are plenty of activities at the hotel, such as golf, tennis, and padel. The pool area is lovely and offers various activities. It is a short distance to the beach. Boat trips are highly recommended and easily arranged through the hotel. All the staff are wonderful and smiling. A big star to Talia for making our stay realy wonderful!!
I was slightly dubious about staying here as im normally more of a Banyan Tree type fan... but I wasnt so disappointed, as the Sofitel delivered in almost all areas.
The property is expansive and very well kept. The swimming pool is a meandering behemoth... and apparently the biggest resort pool in Thailand. When I previously read online before arrival that the pool was huge, I was expecting a large boring olympic type pool, but this pool size and shape works very well... There are so many nooks and crannies where you can either have fun at the inflatable slide area... or find a quiet corner to read a book and chill. Its deep enough for adults and shallow enough at kids pool for all to enjoy.
The staff are fantastic... I have no qualms with any staff experience. The manager (John) greeted us on arrival... and was very courteous - Thanks John. The general check-in staff were all very nice also. Staff at brekky and dinner were superb - really really good!
We booked the half board option... and we were glad we did. The menus are huge re selection and the restaurants are very good (italian and indian/thai). This is probably a good idea... otherwise you will be paying more $ for one-off dinners in house... or travelling to Aonang each day where the selection of good/clean restaurants is restricted. The half board option offers 2 courses per person.... HUGE - and you will add at least 2kgs during a weeks holiday! :-)
The golf course is VERY good. Its a 9 hole par 3 (with 1-2 par 4s). I greatly enjoyed the course. Its challenging.... and i was literally the only person on a jungle type course which is very well kept (except for bunkers).
The gym wasnt great - I think that is an area which might require improvement.
The beach is across a small road... and I personally enjoyed my walks there... Its very natural... however, maybe too natural - you will see alot of sea garbage each day unfortunately... and quite a few pieces of glass (I picked out numerous broken glass bottles during my week there). Quite dangerous for kids. However, its still a cool beach. If I was staying for a few months, I would love to run a beach clean every couple of days. Sad to see the garbage getting vomited onto the beach each day. Unfortunately a global problem.
Regarding laundry, we got ours done in the shops/shacks metres from the hotel (undergarments and swimwear) - for circa $5 per kilo (washed and ironed).
Make sure you download Grab - and avail of the cheap taxis to ao nang. The hotel taxi is Bhat200 per person... while a grab taxi is circa Bhat180 for a reasonably good car that fits 4.
The one thing that annoyed me about the property was the noise of the adjoining rooms... slamming doors etc. Im a light sleeper... and the wooden doors/walls meant that you would hear every door slam nearby. Nothing can be done about this of course... but if you are a light sleeper, bring earbuds.
There were also a number of classy additions in the hotel... for example, kids got a voucher per day for an icecream from a proper ice cream parlour... and adults got 1 free cocktail from Explorers bar per stay, not per day (a very nice cocktail bar - where there was fantastic live music each night be a very capable filipino duo).
All in all - I would definitely return. Its perfect for families and couples and is clearly a 5 star establishment.
Ive been to thailand so many times over the years... and the difference between 5star and 4 star is light years! Theres a certain class difference in the ppl who stay and the standard of service and cleanliness. If you want a nice quaint stay in Krabi... with good professional staff, a great breakfast (selection is huge) and top dinner selection... along with a great bar (Explorers bar was very good also), then choose Sofitel.
Well done guys. We will hopefully be back at some stage.
The service was excellent, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this hote
