Conrad Koh Samui

My wife and I and my sister-in-law and her husband, recently spent a week in the Conrad Koh Samui. It is difficult to find words to adequately describe our experience. Maybe the closest is – WOW! I’ve been blessed to have a career that brought me to many parts of the world and gave me the opportunity to stay in many top class resorts, but the Conrad Koh Samui truly is in a class of its own. This (long) review is intended to thank the staff for their kindness, and to help future guests enjoy their stay to the maximum. Before we even arrived at the resort, we had the pleasure of dealing with Khun Boonpa and Khun Wanida, both of whom lead the resort Reservations department. They showed endless patience in answering my questions about the resort, my requests about the location of our two villas, and making reservations at the resort’s Spa, the Jahn restaurant, and a long-boat trip. They could not have been more helpful, even going out of their way to help me with questions I had about restaurants and events outside the resort. Even after our check-in, Khun Wanida kept in touch to ensure we had everything we needed and to answer any questions we had. Their help and their understanding heightened our anticipation for our trip and guaranteed that it would live up to, and exceed, our dreams. The resort is about a 1-hour drive from the airport. When you enter the resort property, there is a very steep switchback road up to the resort lobby. I really would not want to tackle that road in a loaded-up car with a small engine. The road winds back and forth through a tropical forest where you really can’t see much except for all the vegetation. But when you finally arrive at the top and turn into the lobby entrance the view is absolutely stunning, with the Gulf of Thailand and the ‘Five Sisters’ islands spread out in front of you. If possible, I would strongly recommend trying to arrive during the day so you can fully appreciate the view. The entire property is an architectural and engineering marvel. The property is located on a very steep hillside, as you can see in the first of the attached photos.
As a result, every villa has its own infinity pool and an uninterrupted view of the Gulf of Thailand. Each villa is built entirely on stilts, some of which are more than 30 feet high. Because of the steepness of the hill, the resort has a fleet of 4-person and 6-person golf carts to bring guests from where they are, to wherever they want to go to on the property. An indication of the level of thought that went into designing the property is that the road that runs from the top of the resort down to the sea level are all just wide enough for two carts to pass each other.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Khun Nana and her colleagues, Khun Chana and Khun Earn. They welcomed us to the resort, sat us down in comfortable seats facing the fantastic view, and brought us cups of tea and chilled, lemon-infused, face clothes. They already had nearly all the information they needed, so the check-in process took just a few minutes. During this time, they had unloaded our luggage from our car, whisked the car away, and loaded our luggage onto a buggy to bring us to our villas. Nana then accompanied us to our villa to show us around and highlight the available facilities. The villa was stunning, and the outstanding and thoughtful housekeeping staff had created the beautiful welcome for us shown in the second of the attached photos. The villa was equipped with everything you could wish for – a fully fitted-out pool area, huge bathroom (see photo 3), dressing room, a TV (that we never used!), fridge, top class coffee maker, plentiful bottled water that was replenished every day, a turn-down service every evening, and lots more.
And best of all, see the fourth attached photo for the view that greeted us when we woke every morning. Everything was so perfect that my sister-in-law was moved to tears when she saw their villa 😊.
That evening we reluctantly dragged ourselves away from our pools and had dinner in the Azure restaurant, located beside the resort pool (photo 5). The food was delicious, the cocktails (prepared by Khun Gift) were perfect, and the service by Khun Ae and his colleagues was truly fantastic. They were friendly, funny, very accommodating, and super-efficient. After a long day of flying, driving, and settling in, this was a perfect way to end our first day in the resort. On the next morning (and every subsequent morning) we had breakfast in the idyllic Aow Thai restaurant. We were greeted each morning by Monica or Sanah, both of which have a smile that would brighten the gloomiest day. The restaurant offered indoor and outdoor seating, and a mix of buffet and ordered food. There was a wide selection of juices, fresh fruit, cereals, breads and pastries, Asian dishes, western breakfast, and even a serve yourself ice cream machine! Most especially, it had a team of welcoming, friendly, and super-efficient staff that were constantly on the lookout for a guest that seemed lost or in need of something. During our breakfasts we were warmly greeted by the resort’s General Manager, Marco, Daniel (Director of Food & Beverage), Sanah, and many others whose names I didn’t catch. In fact, all our interactions with any of the resort’s many staff were great. An example of the level of thought that went into the design of the resort was a monitor at the buggy dropoff area outside Aow Thai that showed the timetable of the many free and chargeable events available to guests. The resort website has a very helpful resort map and descriptions of the various events, facilities, and offerings. I attended the very interesting Coffee Roasting Workshop, presented by Khun Ann in the lovely Botanikka eco-cafe. I am far from being a coffee expert, but she provided information in a way that helped me have a much better understanding of the entire coffee roasting process and the differences between light, medium, and dark roasts. One thing we would have loved to see was the resort’s own onsite farm, Iris Farm. The farm provides 70% of the food for the resort’s restaurants. Sadly, we ran out of time before we got a chance to do the farm tour; but this also gives us another excuse to return again in the future 😉. I mentioned the golf carts above. Just a little more info on them. They are available 24x7. You just have to call the concierge and they will send a buggy for you within 5 or 10 minutes. You can also book one in advance if you have to be somewhere at a specific time. There were so many buggy drivers that I just couldn’t catch all their names. But all of them were so pleasant, patient, and helpful; nothing was a problem for them. Given the hot, humid, climate in Koh Samui, I think the buggies are a fantastic idea – they allow you to get yourself dressed up for dinner or whatever, and to arrive at the event still looking good, rather than drowning in perspiration. The team that drove the buggies are the same people that provide the excellent valet services if you have a car, so they typically have your car ready to go by the time you reach the lobby. They anticipated you every move and need – they even all knew our names and any reservations we had; truly amazing. That brings me to a sensitive topic - tipping. We lived in the US until recently, so we are accustomed to tipping people that provide services. But we are sensitive that that same culture doesn’t exist everywhere. We didn’t want to embarrass anyone by providing a too-large tip, but we also wanted to show that we appreciated how well we were being looked after. We made some enquiries and determined that everything you buy in the resort has an automatic 10% service charge that is collected by the resort and passed through to the staff. As a result, no one expects a tip. But if you would still like to thank someone for going above and beyond, a tip of 50 or 100 Baht is appreciated. Coming back to the resort’s facilities, my wife and her sister both had a one-hour session in the resort Spa. Khun Wanida had kindly passed along their treatment wishes to the Spa team, resulting in them having a ‘heavenly’ experience with Khun Pui and her colleagues. The Spa overlooks the sea and islands and provides an incredibly peaceful and soothing environment. Both of them said that their treatments were the best they had ever had. As the week went on, I was getting more and more worried about our ability to leave the Conrad and return home 😊. To celebrate our wedding anniversaries, we had booked a meal in the lovely Jahn restaurant. The setting for the restaurant is just stunning. There is a lovely little garden on the way into the restaurant that is worth a visit even if you are not dining there. As usual, the service was outstanding, thanks to our servers Khun Nok and Khun Spy and chefs Fon and Fah. The meals were prepared exactly in line with our requests and were delicious. And the whole ambiance of the restaurant would make you never want to leave. On our last morning, the Aow Thai staff presented us with the delicious and touching dish shown in the last of the attached photos. You can find many more photographs of the resort here. It truly has a wealth of things for you to enjoy – make sure you check out the in-water lounge chairs and hammocks in the resort pool, and the in-water swing and hammocks on the beach. To make the most of your visit, I would highly recommend reviewing the information on the resort’s excellent website in advance of your visit. I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years, and always find things that could be improved upon. But that was not the case in the Conrad. Every time we said “it can’t get any better than this”, the staff would go one step further in making our stay even more special. The resort property and facilities are outstanding. But as good as they are, the staff are even better. We had booked the least expensive villas, but throughout our stay the staff treated us like VIPs. It felt like we were in heaven, and the staff were like angels.
Thanks to Marco and all his team, this really was the holiday of a lifetime for the four of us and we will never forget our visit to the Conrad Koh Samui.

We had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing stay at Conrad Koh Samui. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the warm, attentive, and genuinely caring service throughout the resort. A special thank you to Chompu and Ariyapa from Guest Services. They were always extremely friendly, polite, responsive, and willing to help with anything we needed. Their attention to detail and warm hospitality made our stay feel truly special. The food was another highlight of our stay. We enjoyed everything from fine dining and Thai cuisine to breakfast, and every meal was excellent. The ingredients were fresh, the food was beautifully prepared, and the flavors were outstanding. We were consistently impressed by the quality of the dining experience. One particular moment really demonstrated how caring and professional the hotel team is. During breakfast, my wife accidentally spilled a bowl of very hot rice noodle soup on her arm, causing some minor redness and a mild burn. The restaurant staff immediately came to help, quickly brought burn ointment and a herbal ice towel, and took care of her without hesitation. After we returned to our room, the Guest Services team went the extra mile and arranged fresh aloe vera gel from the Spa and had it delivered to our room to help soothe the redness and discomfort. Thanks to their prompt and thoughtful care, the redness had completely disappeared by the following day, and thankfully there were no further problems. This experience really showed us that the hospitality at Conrad Koh Samui is not just about luxury—it is about genuine care for guests. Every member of the team we encountered was warm, professional, and attentive. We would highly recommend Conrad Koh Samui to anyone visiting Koh Samui. It was a truly wonderful, relaxing, and memorable vacation experience, and we will definitely be coming back again!

Tomorrow I will be checking out of the Conrad Koh Samui after a three night stay for our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. It's been a really really long time that I had a perfect customer service experience but Conrad did it.

And a villa property like this requires a huge amount of customer service...moving customers around by buggy to restaurants and activities, delivering room service, resetting the villa twice per day, resort activities, honoring anniversaries and birthdays. The Conrad staff did everything perfectly. I didn't have to wait for anything. I didn't have to remind the staff of anything. I felt they were awell trained on all situations. And they were so cheerful and friendly and spoke English so well. It was fantastic.

The staff and service were the highlight. But the westward facing views of the ocean were also stunning. And we loved the cuisine. Hard to pick the best, but we really enjoyed the Aow Thai restaurant.

Well done, Conrad. We'll definitely come again.
