Hotel is in a great location . Lovely and quiet on an evening and morning for a sleep in ( unless staff sweeping up at 8am have a loud conversation! ). Food ordered was great as is the bar staff . Beach villa rooms tired and need some TLC restaurant seems to close early and the breakfast is appallingly poor . Pool wasn’t too clean until mentioned to a member of staff and they got out all the debris then ! Worth staying on a good deal avoid paying for breakfast.
Stayed for new year with friends and it was a bit of a let down. The staff were great but the place is showing signs of age and wasn’t worth the money we paid.
The breakfast was rather odd as the latte machine took an age to brew a small cup and was always running out out of milk and beans. The egg station was nice but it ham floating in water or cold baked beans were the accompaniments. Also our friends had booked with breakfast and when they checked in were told it didn’t include and it wasn’t till I re read their booking email that it clearly stated breakfast was included and as a result they had to pay for their breakfast on their first morning. Also there was no welcome drink as our bookings said would be provided.
The pool area was the worst and it was not cleaned. There were leftover food spills on the beds and tables and the pool was only cleaned after my husband asked for it to be cleaned as there was a lot of dirt at the bottom and floating on top.
The room was basic and was not worth the $130 paid a night. The shower was an electric one at shoulder height, the bed was hard, the power sockets built into the bed side table were at such an angle that the adaptor and plug fell out and you had to continually ask for new beach towels.
On New Years Eve nothing was advertised and when we asked we were told the bar would be open till midnight. When we returned at 10.30pm we discovered all was closed and the beach was its usual quiet place were no one ever seemed to be after sunset (Lamai was very unusual in this regard as everything seemed to happen on the road each night and NYE was no exception ie no bars on the beach).
Overall we wouldn’t return to either Samui Sense hotel or Lamai beach. This was our 12th visit to Thailand and a let down unfortunately.
it’s location is good due to its closeness to Lamai strip and it’s directly on the beach but it could use some much needed renovations ... We had booked the Thai house and the room was big, clean and spacey which was perfect for the 4 of us.. the bathroom though could use a new shower curtain ( which was torn to bits) and a bit of a scrub on the tiles to remove the mold and a new shower head which was leaking. The breakfast is very minimal so we used to go to the nearby bakery each day to get some items to add. We met some clients who just went out for a more hearty breakfast but we just loved to have our coffee to the sound of the waves. The Thai food we ordered on the menu was lovely and fresh and their chicken nuggets are delicious ! My kids loved them! But we did find a piece of glass in a cup one day... The staff overall is lovely and kind although we were a bit put off at our arrival by a very rude and unfriendly lady at the reception but she was the only one who was unkind, everyone else was always smiling and helpful at all times. Overall our family had a good time and most of the guests were families with kids which gave it a lovely feeling ! But it’s safe to say the hotel definitely needs some renovation and a bit more care from the management who seems to be cutting costs... we come to Thailand every year but I doubt we will book there again.
The only positiv thing about this hotel is that its cheap, PERIOD!! All the pictures are taken long time ago! The hotel is very dirty and is literally falling appart! The rooms that we stayed in were awful! Everyone had a really bad smell! The toilet was not working from the beginning. We told the staff imediately and they wanted us to pay 6000 b "because it was our fault...". The pool looks like the brown Chaopraya river color! They ilegaly charge money for sunbeds on the beach. They owner stole our "deposition" money! At night time the "resort" looks like North Korea by night, pitch black... We moved out after only 1 day. If you want to have a really bad vacation, please choose this hotel!!
Given I couldn't get any refunds ... my family and I endured a long 3 weeks at the Samui Sense. I can't imagine after you look at these photo's how anyone could give this place 5 stars. Mold, mildew growths, rusted toilet seat, AC that failed, lost electricity 3x, large gaps around the door where 100s of mosquitoes came in. There were bare wires sticking out of the ceiling where I presume a fan failed and wasn't replaced. No table or chairs in the room. No TV, intermittent WiFi that frequently would NOT work at night. The pool is full daily with leaves, and bugs floating on the water. The tiles are coated with muck. There is no skimmer to clean the pool, and it isn't even filled fully. The hotel /and its air b&b advertise a nice beach with chairs and umbrellas which you have to pay to use. You are not allowed to bring any outside food or drink in. The lady who makes these rules and runs the restaurant and beach chairs is the sister of the gentlemen who introduced himself as the owner of the hotel.
