- Alila Ubud

Set in a secluded hillside position above the Ayung River and surrounded by lush verdant vegetation, the beautiful Alila Ubud boutique hotel is situated in the traditional hill village of Payangan in central Bali. Contemporary architecture meets traditional Balinese style, as guests may admire Indonesian art in the hotel's art gallery or in the sculpture garden. An emerald infinity pool seems to be floating above the valley and guests may sample authentic Balinese cuisine in the hotel's restaurant. A truly unique travel experience.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I've stayed at three Alila hotels in Bali: Ubud, Uluwatu, and Seminyak. I hereby declare that Alila Ubud is the worst hotel of them all, and possibly the worst hotel experience of my life. I arrived at around 1:30 PM and checked in around 2:00 PM. They told me that it would take another hour to prepare the room. I thought it was a bit long, but it didn't matter since the normal check-in time was 3:00 PM. They asked me to wait at the poolside restaurant. After an hour and a half, at 3:30 PM, I went to the front desk to ask again, and they actually told me that it would take another 45 minutes? They said their occupancy rate was 100% today, and it's obvious they're severely understaffed to handle the situation. It's almost 5 PM now, and my room still isn't ready. I find this utterly absurd. I'm not just angry that you've taken on too many guests; I'm even angrier that you've wasted my entire afternoon—three whole hours! If you'd told me earlier that I had to wait until after 5 PM, I would have left the hotel to do other things. This is my first day here, and I couldn't help but leave a review because I've stayed in no fewer than 200 hotels, and I've never encountered such an ridiculous hotel.
Alila Ubud offers you a peaceful stay in the middle of a jungle. Staff is really nice and takes good care of your needs. Pool offers a great view and a very different concept of breakfast than other star hotels. Options may be less but quality is good. Monkeys can be an issue so keep your balconies closed all the time. Slightly far from the city center but easily accessible. Its very close to Kuber Adventure sports where you can enjoy the ATV rides. Highly recommend this property for your stay in Ubud.
Beautiful hotel in a fantastic setting surrounded by tropical forest. Staff are amazing, food is really good with lots of choice. Infinity pool one of the best I've experienced. The local monkeys are very cheeky so you can't leave food lying around, but they are entertaining and not at all aggressive
The resort was in a lovely location, the staff were all very helpful and accommodating. We did a Luxury Escape package with some great inclusions, including a 90 minute massage each and set lunch or set 3 course evening meal. The only negative was the limited menu with that option (the choice was the same over the 4 nights we stayed) That said the staff were very accommodating when we queried this and let us choose from the normal and extensive menu with a few expensive meals excluded so that was fair. Afternoon tea was also a lovely inclusion. The highlight was all the monkeys around the resort who were highly entertaining and which the staff kept a very keen eye on at all times. Having them visit our balcony in the afternoons was an amazing experience
Located a few km from Ubud and nestled in a breathtaking jungle setting, the Alila is a beautiful hotel. A real sanctuary of calm away from the craziness of Ubud but close enough to visit on the free shuttle bus if needs be.
The whole vibe is that of relaxation and calm.
The staff really make this place, always happy and helpful and go over and above to ensure every guest is well looked after.
The food is lovely especially the breakfasts and with an amazing view out of the restaurant it just makes for a magical experience.
We organised a day touring around Bali from the hotel which was excellent.
We also used the grab app to catch a cab (a few £) and visit nearby Tis cafe and the Sanyan House as somewhere slightly different to eat - both were excellent.
Overall we had a lovely 4 night stay. We would definitely come back if we were to visit Bali again x
