SANUR RESORT WATUJIMBAR. AVOID! Not sure how all the positive reviews of this hotel are prevalent on here. I have stayed in 1 star hostels around the world, and five star resorts - I have NEVER had to forfeit a stay until this one!
We messaged the resort before arrival to request a non‑mouldy room and an accessible room due to health needs. On arrival we were first shown a dark, dingy second‑floor room that smelled strongly of mould. After complaining we were moved to a room with a private plunge pool.
That second room had no hot water, no net curtains, dried bogeys on the window ledge and visible dirt — dust everywhere, makeup stains on the pillowcases, and a filthy interior bathroom window. Because of these issues we were moved again to an upgraded room, also with a pool. This room’s balcony door would not open, the curtains had dried vomit on them, and the net curtains were mouldy.
When we raised these problems with the night manager they effectively confirmed that only a handful of rooms have been refurbished and that the photos on Agoda reflect those refurbished rooms, not the majority of accommodation. The decking around the pools is unkempt and dangerous in places — it felt like only a matter of time before a heavy guest could fall through. Breakfast was basic, and the queue for eggs took 10 minutes.
We checked out early. Overall the property is not maintained to the standard shown online and, given the mould, hygiene issues and safety concerns, it wasn’t worth the risk staying.
Don't trust reviews on Sanur Facebook groups! We posted on one, it was replied to buy an Admin and commenting was turned off. There is massive underhand censoring afoot!
We tried 3 rooms in 20 hrs !!!! First one, strong mould smell on opening door, as mould is serious health hazard requsted to move. Second room, no hot water for 12 hours. Third room extremely dirty, even dried on bogies next to bed on shelf, and to top it all, two large areas of dried vomit on curtains. After trying 3 rooms, meetings with various staff members, we checked out. But not before usung pool area, which is very very outdated and needs complete renovation. More mould, wooden decking quidgy and loose when walking. Rattan furniture seen better days. You can do much better.
The hotel was under renovation but I would describe it in appearance as a hospital building with a pool and garden in the middle. Breakfast was akin to a stampede which followed the daily ritual of securing a sun lounge via the pool. The rooms were ok but many seemed to have a foul odour. The house keeping staff seemed short a few bodies with rooms often not made-up till after 3pm which coincidentally was the time we were told our rooms would be ready, pretty poor relative to other hotels. The food was decent and the lunch menu by the pool was really good. Not sure how extensive the renovations are but this hospital, I mean hotel needs a total refurb. Having stayed elsewhere in Sanur this was without doubt the worst but a country mile.
