Maya Sanur Resort and Spa

The Maya Sanur is supposed to be one of the best hotels in Sanur - at least that’s what we kept being told. And to be fair to the place it has a fabulous location, right on the beach, but also in the centre of town. It is about a 15 minute walk to the Icon shopping centre, but there are loads of shops and restaurants right on its doorstep. However, and this is possibly just a personal thing, it offers absolutely no flavour of the real Bali at all. The building is a concrete monstrosity, which has been cleverly hidden by greenery, and it is essentially an international hotel which could be anywhere. It seems to suit the crowds of Australians for whom Bali is like the Balearics is for Europeans - they pop over for a few days of sunshine and relaxation. But it wasn’t really our ideal. There appeared to be so many more authentic- looking hotels in the area. We could have chosen better. We had booked an ‘impressive nest suite’ which was pleasant enough, but not really impressive. The ‘nest’ was supposed to be the balcony, but frankly we had no view at all from ours, apart from the back of the next door nest and because we were up in the tree tops on the 4 th floor, there were a lot of mosquitoes inhabiting our nest with us. Given a choice again I would have booked a lagoon room, where you at least get to use the pool right outside your door. The room facilities were what you would expect from a good hotel, but a minor niggle was the fact that the loo door was far too close to the loo itself. You were in danger of head butting the door every time you stood up from a seated position. The room was clean and well maintained. At one point our key card stopped working, which turned out to be a battery problem in the door. The staff came to fix it immediately, which was impressive. Breakfast was a large buffet, mixing local foods with international options. We have seen better, but we have also seen worse. And the service from the staff was excellent. The Tree Bar is the main daytime catering option near the beach and the pool, and it offered a good range of food and drink options. Slightly weirdly, one of the published pool rules declared that no food was allowed by the pool, and yet food and drinks were delivered to sun beds on a regular basis. The pool area was nice enough, although it was sometimes a struggle to find a sunbed in the shade. The downside to the pool being surrounded by trees and foliage was that it was hard to keep clean. The pool attendant was constantly having to sweep up leaves and fish them out of the pool. The hotel had two restaurants which we didn’t try, but at least the Italian restaurant looked busy every night, the Japanese one less so. However, there are so many other restaurants to try in the area, we were spoiled for choice. The spa looked lovely, but we did not use its facilities. We didn’t have a bad holiday at this hotel, but I’m not sure I would describe it as one of the best in Sanur. It just lacked some of the real Balinese flavour that we were hoping for.

We had a wonderful stay with Maya Sanur resort , beautiful resort and grounds ! beautiful friendly staff who cannot do enough to make your stay perfect . would recommend this beautiful resort for a peaceful Bali holiday . Thankyou Maya Sanur we will be back . 🥰
