Nusa Dua

The exclusive Mulia Resort is bordered by a stunning sandy beach and palm-lined gardens in Nusa Dua, Bali. Its sumptuous rooms and suites exude an unparalleled elegance and classic style, inviting travellers to truly relax on a tranquil island holiday. Guests might spend a restful afternoon in the luxurious spa and wellness centre complete with fitness room, sauna, ice room, hydrotherapy pool, and steam room with emotion showers. There is also a 24-hour business centre for those who need to stay connected to the office, and children will delight in the children's entertainment programme with activities based on creative learning. Disappointing Value for a Luxury Resort

I am currently staying at Mulia Resort, and unfortunately the experience has been disappointing.

The biggest issue is that almost every small thing costs extra. “Full board” does not work here in the normal sense: drinks are not included, not even regular water in plastic bottles. Also, full board is only available in selected restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, not across all cafes and restaurants in the resort.

For guests who smoke shisha, the pricing is also strange. A shisha costs 600,000 IDR, around 35 USD. If you want to mix three tobacco flavors, it is an extra 200,000 IDR, even though the amount of tobacco does not change. When you ask to change the coals, which is normally free everywhere else, they tell you it costs another 100,000 IDR.

Our room, #1760, also has a serious issue. As soon as we open the balcony door, a huge amount of condensation forms on the floor. The floor feels constantly wet and slippery, which is uncomfortable and unsafe.

To be fair, the food is tasty. However, there can be queues. Today, July 5, 2026, there was a queue at The Cafe in the morning, and guests were being asked to go to another restaurant.

Another problem is that there may not be enough sunbeds near the ocean and the main pool for everyone. The hotel is very family-oriented, with many children, so people looking for a quieter or more premium resort atmosphere should keep this in mind.

Overall, for a hotel of this level and price, I expected a much smoother and more generous experience.

Rip off - avoid at all costs

Worst service I have ever experienced in any hotel, let alone a 5 star resort. Waited hours for food, the staff would not allow us to use credits we had for our stay, cocktails and food were overpriced and poor quality. Then to top it all off, they charged me double on incidentals when we checked out as I had been told I could not charge items to my room so I was paying as I went - but the staff were also adding the charges to my room. Even upon showing bank charges for the corresponding amounts, they would not refund my full deposit. The staff were unhelpful and had zero common sense. The manager was no help either - he just stood there nodding and smiling. Clearly this place is in trouble - avoid and spend your money elsewhere. For a 5 star price tag, the value is appalling .

Huge Disappointment

I almost never write reviews, but this is my third stay at Mulia and I’m so disappointed.

Yes, it’s July and it’s peak season. But if a hotel can’t deliver a decent experience at full occupancy, maybe it shouldn’t sell that many rooms. Right now the hotel is simply overcrowded. Want a sunbed by the beach or pool? Better reserve it early in the morning or forget about it. Breakfast? I’m writing this while standing in a 40–45 minute queue just to get in. I’ve travelled all over the world and I’ve genuinely never experienced this in a luxury resort. Even worse, after finally getting seated there wasn’t even plain yogurt left…just a few flavoured yogurts in plastic cups. The breakfast used to be one of Mulia’s biggest highlights. Now it’s just average. My husband doesn’t even show up and eats in st Regis.

We’re staying in a Sapphire Suite, but there are no additional benefits whatsoever during such a busy period. When the hotel knows it’s full, why not open more restaurants for breakfast? The resort is enormous and has plenty of dining venues. Or simply extend breakfast until 12:00 instead of closing at 10:30 to spread guests out. There are obvious solutions.

We also had dinner at Edogin. It wasn’t bad, but it was mediocre.

The frustrating part is that none of these problems feel unavoidable. They all come down to poor capacity management. Mulia built its reputation on exceptional service and good food but right now it feels like the hotel is prioritising occupancy over guest experience. I wouldn’t return.
