UNICO 20 87 Riviera Maya

We visited the resort for 8 nights at the beginning of September. We had a swim out in building 3. It was perfect to have sun the majority of the day. Our local host was Laura. She was amazing and took care of all of our needs. She made the trip fantastic!

Unico 2087 is a hard resort to review. I really wanted to like this All Inclusive Resort. Every resort you go to you are always comparing it to other resorts you have experienced. Some aspects of the resort are great. Food was great, drink service at the pools were great, pools and property were also great. For food we experienced Avec(French), Grill 2087(Steakhouse), Mura House(Japanese), Cueva Siete(Mexican). We also had lots of food at the pool and we also ordered room service. All great. At the pool the ceviche and fish and chips were my favorite. My wife enjoyed the wood fire pizza. There were also some things that missed the mark. The hard sell was the worst I’ve experienced, the beach was also non existent. The beach is so small. The smallest I’ve seen. No bar on the beach. If you could find some clear water to swim in you ran into rocks pretty quickly. Seaweed was also an issue, that made it smell really bad. The concierge was a non issue and didn’t add anything to our stay. The concierge sent us a WhatsApp Message our 1st morning and then we never heard from her again. We had to prompt her for daily activities 2 days later. The room was very nice, but musty and wet. The floor would get wet during the day(not from us), probably because of the humidity outside and not enough ventilation in the room. The bed would also feel wet. Very strange. The vibe of the other guests in the hotel was also not our vibe. Hard to explain. Long story short we will not be returning to Unico 2087.

More information - My wife and I arrived at the resort. They have everyone sit at couches and wait. We didn’t get a welcome drink, but we were told to go to the lobby bar and order one. Drinks were very good. We then paid for our stay and then waited for our concierge. A gentleman sat with us and started the hard sell. Offering discounted excursions or massages in exchange for a hour of our time tomorrow morning to ask us advice on how they can improve the hotel or future hotels at other locations. Some resorts stop after the first no, this guy was pretty persistent and it was getting very frustrating. Not a great way to start our trip. We also received a call to our room the next day asking me to stop by the lobby bar and sign for a $500 voucher on our next stay. I said no and the hard sell continued, so I hung up the phone. Property was gorgeous, service(other than the concierge) was great, food was 5 Star, and pools were also top notch, but other resorts also hit these high points but do them better. My wife and I previously went to another All Inclusive Resort in Riviera Maya for July 4th weekend. We had a very bad food experience, but everything else was perfect. We would choose that resort over UNICO.
