Exceptional service that made our stay unforgettable
The service at Secrets Akumal was quite possibly the best we have ever experienced—even compared with The Ritz London and Claridge’s! The staff were exceptional: the friendliest we have ever encountered, with incredible attention to detail. They remembered our names, dealt with any issues immediately and went out of their way to make our stay special. The food quality was outstanding, the cocktails were excellent, and the entertainment was so impressive, with top-quality performers. Service around both the beach and the pool was amazing. The lunchtime barbeques were delicious as well as the coconut ice cream! The Preferred Club team deserve a special mention. They did everything they could to make this our best stay ever. When we mentioned that our room didn’t have the ocean view we had expected, they responded with such care. They gave us a complimentary Balinese bed for the day and went out of their way to show us an alternative room with a better view. What really made Secrets Akumal stand out was the warmth of the staff and how much they cared about our experience. We felt remembered, welcomed and looked after throughout our stay. An exceptional hotel with an exceptional team!

10 year anniversary trip
We loved our time at Secrets Akumal and are already talking about when to come visit again. The staff was super kind and quick to accommodate our needs without being overbearing. Everything was clean and absolutely beautiful. Exactly what we hoped for for our 10 year wedding anniversary!

Honeymoon
Beautiful resort, attentive staff, delicious food and drinks. Spa experience was amazing and relaxing. The resort is well maintained and really focused on being green and sustainable. Great for couples and perfect location for excursions

Lacking, noisy and sad.
I write this while I'm still at the resort. We are due to leave in 2 days time.
We last came here is 2023 and it was far superior in every way back then.
The main issue is that there is extensive renovations going on which they have not advised guests of before they book. So good luck trying to get some peace in your room or the preferred club lounge because you won't.
The service around the pool is slow and less attentive than before.
The pool is freezing.
The beach is looking worn away and has seen better days.
Mosquito problem by the quiet pool and lobby bar.
Resort is lacking and sad.

We chose the Secrets Akumal resort to celebrate my wife’s 30th birthday. Overall it was the best holiday that we have ever been on. Our room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking the jungle that surrounded the resort and also had our own jacuzzi. All of the housemaids did a great job of keeping the cleanliness of the room at a high standard throughout the trip. Our building concierge Leidy was phenomenal. When my wife was talking to her about wanting something spicier to eat, Leidy called the restaurant that we were planning to go to ahead of time and they made her a spicy tomato sauce to go with the nachos which was off the menu. Leidy also came in on her day off to arrange a birthday cake and personal message to the room whilst we were out. The service did not drop when Leidy was away either as Karen was also very friendly and made it easy to arrange a bubble bath in the jacuzzi and rose petals sprinkled around the room as a romantic surprise for my wife.
The resort itself is so peaceful with plants and trees all around the pathways that provide plenty of shade going to and from buildings. It provides such a calming atmosphere and it is nothing like anything we have experienced in any other all inclusive resort. The gardeners work very hard to maintain the grounds and it really shows.
The food was something that both of us had been looking forward to and it did not disappoint. French, Italian ,Japanese, seafood, seaside grill and Mexican every restaurant was a great experience with menus filled with tasty options that we could go multiple times and not get bored. Once again the service really stood out as every restaurant was aware of my wife’s nut allergy before we sat down and even if the waiter would change as the food was being served they would be aware of this and advise my wife not to eat my food if it contained nuts. This really put my mind at ease as this had been a problem at previous resorts. Special mention to the waiter Ayram who served us a few times as he worked in our favourite restaurant the Hitmitsu, he was very easy to talk to and joke with although every waiter we interacted with was incredible and had time for us even though you could see they were very busy.
The resort had three different pools, one quieter pool and then two more next to each other. This provided everything for everyone. The pool staff as well were so helpful, we would not have to wait long for our drinks to be refilled or even the parasol to be moved if we wanted more shade. Special mention to Antonio who we made a good connection with at the pool he was so kind and caring!
The entertainment team always had an event every hour and this would continue on the rainy days as well. Special mention to Alan who we did the aqua cycling class with, a great way to start the day. There were also special events that we didn't have to pay for such as the tequila tasting which was very informative and interesting.
All in all this resort and its team did an amazing job at making my wife’s birthday special and I would not have changed anything. It should definitely be considered if you are thinking of celebrating something special. Just wanted to say thank you again to all of the team and apologies if I didn’t include your name in this review you were all so good!
