Enjoying a fantastic location frontline to the powder-soft white sand and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the exclusive Occidental at Xcaret Destination hotel is ideally situated, surrounded by an ecological and historical preserve. It is a perfect luxury 24 hours all inclusive refuge at 10 minutes from Playa del Carmen and offers a lovely garden and pool landscape as well as a wide variety of first class amenities and services. All a la carte restaurants, requiere prior booking, subject to availability and with restrictions.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Pros: 1) lots of wildlife. The scenery is beatiful 2) no sargassum. No real beach. The manmade lagoon is nice, but small and not a true beach, but no sargassum 3) pretty grounds 4) easy room access bracelet 5) clean
Cons: 1) my friend and I were assigned a room with 1 king size bed. We asked for 2 beds. None were available. We gave up after a couple days of asking 2) we left out luggage with the people up front when we checked in. It took 6 hours and 3 phone calls to get our luggage. We couldn’t shower, swim, or change clothes after arriving. I’m not sure they would have delivered if I didn’t keep pestering them 3) you can only make dinner reservations 2 days in advance. Plan to eat buffet everyday if you have excursions planned. The staff leave at 3pm. Most of our excursions were 7-4. 4) the staff continually hassle you to buy a membership or excursions. I hate being rude, but finally just had to walk away 5) the pools close at 7 6) complimentary shuttles to XPlor are only offered once morning/once evening. 7) the staff will not break pesos or USD for smaller denominations (even to use as tips for their staff). You have to make a purchase if you want smaller bills. 8) taxi’s are expensive and this resort is a distance from anything except XCaret and XPlor.
Our stay was absolutely amazing! We were there for our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary / Honeymoon and I would not have wanted to go anywhere else. Cynthia was amazing with checking us in to the Royal Suite with the best view of the ocean. Sergio took care of us and showed us around to make sure we knew where everything was. Moses was awesome, Patricia at the Italian Restaurant made an excellent food recommendation and Yulliana was our server at the Seafood restaurant and the main buffet and was so sweet. Everyone was absolutely phenomenal in making this a memorable trip for all the right reasons.
Returned for the 3rd time with our two children and had another wonderful experience, the beautiful setting is just so peaceful. Monkeys walking around, deer that let you go up to them and iguanas happily enjoying the sunshine. We stayed in Royals this time and it did not disappoint. The restaurant was fantastic, so accommodating for my children and so much variety. The night entertainment was brilliant (they have worked hard on this) and the multiple pools give so many different atmospheres. Having xcarat next door is perfect (you do need good footwear as its so big to walk around with so much to explore). We took our water shoes which you can wear on the underground rivers too. One member of staff at the hotel particularly stood out, Cynthia at the Royals. She was so kind, so attentive and really cares that you have the best experience. She is constantly looking after guests and you can easily reach her at Royals for any issues. She is very approachable, brilliant with the children and very efficient.
Amazing experience extremely attentive and beautifully relaxing. Irais, naomi, and Wendy were all wonderful and attentive women with top notch care and service.
Very nice experience we had with Paola Mendoza from the kids club in this resort . She was very patient with both my kids and she was very good in doing crafts and face painting and organizing things for the kids . I seriously recommend you guys choose this hotel if you have kids and are energetic and need new experiences .
