- Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya

Bordered by a private white sand beach and lush tropical landscapes, this decadent luxury resort pulls out all the stops for an unreal holiday for families and couples alike. The resort is situated near Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera, less than 50 kilometres from the pre-Colombian Mayan ruins of Tulum. Visitors will have many opportunities to explore the area with excursions to Tulum and Chichen-Itza archaeological sites, and can swim with dolphins or even tour the Hard Rock sister hotel in Cancun. Each room offers generous proportions, a hydro spa bathtub, private balcony, and a range of state-of-the-art amenities, all decorated with vibrant colours and textures. Guests will delight in the private beach, children's pool and family pool, and the resort also offers a sophisticated and opulent adults-only hotel with four pools, nine imaginative restaurants and six lavish bars exclusively for adults.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We were at the Hard Rock 8/9-8/16 celebrating my sons 30th bday. We stayed in a sky terrace room. It did have ocean view which was beautiful but it was way too hot to enjoy the sky terrace. The rooms are a little tight but we don’t spend much time in our room so it didn’t bother us. They were clean and had everything we needed. The beds were super comfy compared to other resorts we’ve stayed in. We had a couple of minor issues we had to call for and they were taken care of right away. Room service sounds like it’s hit or miss depending on the time you order. There are lots of options during breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours but if you’re trying to order at midnight it is a very limited menu understandably so. I ordered some pasta and salad one afternoon and it was delicious. Some other family members tried ordering very late and the options were not favorable to them. The upside to this resort are the people, service, and food! Our first food experience was Los Gallos. Best tacos we have ever had! And we eat alot of tacos. Manni is the best there. All his recommendations were on point. We loved the food so much we ate there 3 of the 7 days. Another favorite of ours is Umo. Luis gave us the best experience and food was amazing. We found our favorite breakfast place was Farro. We had the pleasure of having Marcos serve us. He was so sweet. We did not care for Isle. The Marketplace is okay. Farro does not allow kids so if you have kids the Marketplace would be your best bet for breakfast. We tried Wai. It was too hot in there to enjoy the food. I’m not sure if they were having problems with the a/c or if it’s always that hot in there. El Toro was okay. Hard to compare steak anywhere else when you come from beef country. We did not get the pleasure of trying Ciao or Zen. Honestly our best lunches were at the pool or beach. Yes! you can order right from your chair or there is something made everyday by the pool at 1:00. David and Ricardo could not do enough for us. Those guys are amazing and they work their butts off in the heat serving drinks and food at the pool and beach. If you wanna belly up to the pool bar Carlos is awesome too and makes some great drinks. Look for Luna (NOT JESUS) if you’re looking for some activities at the pool. He will keep you entertained. My only complaints and I don’t think their are many is the theater where shows are held gets too booked and too hot. Such a big resort one would think there would be a better place for shows. Another thing, We pay extra at Heaven for adults only experience and yet they allow children in the adults only lobby. There is a lobby with all the same amenities in the family side save maybe the gym and Los Gallos. I don’t think they should be allowed in the lobby during evening or entertainment hours. It wasn’t that big a deal but for some who maybe really want a adults only experience it could be very bothersome especially considering your paying extra $$ for it. Considering this is a HardRock we were expecting more for activies and entertainment. This resort is great if you are a foodie and pool person. If you love the beach and getting in the ocean then this is not for you. Thank you to all who took such grat care of us!
Service here was amazing, We had Juan and Hermes. They were so kind. I have Celiac disease and they were very helpful and were able to help me pick out good meals!
We've just returned from an 8 day stay here with family. Overall it was a very positive experience. Having stayed here once before in 2016, we felt that the standard we experienced this year wasn't quite the same as it was ten years ago. Having said that, we had a fantastic time and would stay again.
Everywhere we ate the food was fantastic; warm and flavourful and when eating in the A La Carte restaurants it was prompt and we were well looked after. The speciality drinks in each restaurant are a must try! The snack bars by the pools and room service are aso to a good standard although we used these services less.
Entertainment during the day is very good, there's great music playing and the team are very engaging with what they do - and great at remembering names as well! The evening entertainment we only really saw what was live in the lobbies, the "show" for most nights was in the convention centre which had a dinner and you had to reserve. It all seemed a bit complicated so we just enjoyed the live music instead. One night was a show in the theatre which was a Queen tribute and it was brilliant!!
Seaweed really wasn't an issue, the staff are out very early cleaning areas in the beaches. We swam in the sea without hassle in the man made coves.
The coffee shops are amazing, the Market buffet is to a very good standard, and Faro for breakfast (adults only) was a real highlight for me.
Get up early for sunbed reservations. With the legendary and hall of fame membership tiers they have SO MANY sunbeds reserved by 7am. Maybe we visited at an extremely popular time. I also appreciate that these guests pay more for the luxury however it is frustrating when you've paid a good amount for your holiday and can't get sunbeds because they're reserved and dont turn up until midday. Lots of the sunbeds need a bit of TLC as well with screws missing and not being able to lean back comfortably as they break! Easy fix.
We are a family of 4, mum, dad, daughter 21 & son 12 and stayed at the Hard Rock for 10 days in July. We don’t normally stay at an all inclusive resort, and given some of the reviews I was quite nervous about our stay. Our room was a rock suite ocean front which gave us loads of room and a fantastic view. Our butlers Paola and Omar were great. They were really pro active checking in on us daily & sorted all restaurant and show bookings as well as a myriad of other requests which they did their best to accommodate. The real star for us was Eddie from the entertainment team. He remembered our names from just one meeting & managed to get us all involved with activities around the blue pool. He even gave our son a parting gift of an individually designed hat with his name on it. He made our holiday truly memorable. A mention must go to ‘Dan the Man’ at Frida who made our meal the best we experienced. Also thanks to the staff at Toro for our daughter’s graduation celebration desert board, it was fabulous to look at and delicious to eat. Yes the resort is in need of smartening up, the evening shows are interesting & the sun bed reservations can be annoying plus The Market for us was a no go. La Isla had great staff Alexis and Andrew were amazing & was our go to for breakfast and lunch. The staff really make this resort, so find your pool, find your restaurants and enjoy.
Main issue here (amongst others). Hard rock advertises à la carte, with many restaurants. What they do not tell you is there is no booking system, and as such you have to chance your luck. We are currently waiting for a table and have been advised it’s a 90mins wait. Rooms are dated, check in was a challenge in itself. Apart from restaurants, you can not get a drink before 11am alcoholic or not, and it s a very big site meaning lots of people and families trying to do the same thing. We’ve always wanted to try the hard rock as the amenities and price tag have dictated a better experience. In my personal opinion, we had better times at Karisma Azul Beach or Rui Costa Mujeres, and were much more cost effective.
