We had an excellent experience at Secrets Riviera and would recommend it to other couples. We loved the all-inclusive aspect of the resort.
Urbuno, luis, nadal from the secrets pool made my experience go above and beyond. Very personable and always making sure we had everything we needed and having a great time. I can’t imagine my experience there without them.
This is the second Secrets we have been to. For the most part it was very good stay. Check in went fairly quickly. You get key cards for the rooms. If I had a choice, I would prefer the wristband with the key built-in on the band (one less thing to keep track of). Our keys didn't work on the first day and then quit again on the last day. We were hit up with the vacation club pitch immediately after check-in. We had a swim-up which was really nice because it was (usually) very quiet except for when the neighbors came back from spending all day partying at the Breathless next door. We generally got decent drink service while using our swimout. Housekeeping was outstanding during our stay. We always had plenty of towels and the mini-bar was regularly restocked.
Occupancy was down so that made for a lot less crowded feeling at the pools. The two pool butlers, Daniel and Damian, were a pleasure to have all week. They helped us with setting up loungers, providing towels, and moving the umbrellas for us all week. We always had great service from our pool waiters. They were very attentive and provided good service for drinks and food. Shout out to Nedel, Gibran, Urbana, and Julio for great service all week.
We ate at a number of restaurants during the week. Rosewater is the only one on the Secrets side. It is very convenient to the rooms and has an intersting menu. The first two days of our stay, service at Rosewater was horrible. Our server would disappear for long periods of time and on two occasions, simply walked off without a word to be replaced by someone else. We were about to swear off eating at Rosewater when suddenly things changed. We had Mayra for a server at several meals and she was outstanding. From that point onwards, we alsways had good service. I have no idea what changed.
We ate at most of the main restaurants on the Breathless side. The Asian restaurant, Silk City, was our favorite. They had a very nice and varied menu. There is also an option for Hibatchi and revoling sushi. I tried steak a couple of times (at the French and the Italian) and was disappointed both times. We didn't at the steakhouse so I can't speak for that.
The beach had a red flag all week so we didn't get to enjoy the ocean. Seaweed levels changed day to day and they worked hard to clean the beach.
On the 4th of July, they threw a huge party on the Secrets Beach. There was a large stage set up with monster speakers and lots of decorations. They had dancing, fire show, live bands, and lots of music. Tables were set up in front of the stge with a huge buffet and bar. It got pretty rowdy and the music shook the glass in the patio doors in our room. There was a good fireworks show off the top of our building after dark. They really went all out with this party and show.
Overall, we had a nice time. We'd come back outside of the bad sargasso months (spring or fall).
Location was perfect not too far from the airport.
Atmosphere was great. So glad we chose to stay on the Secrets side which allowed us to relax when we felt like it and go over to the breathless side for more of a party vibe. Secrets side was also entertaining with activities during the day.
We got the swim out room in building 1 which was so nice. We loved the pool. The room was very nice too. Far enough from the main pool to feel secluded.
Great price for the value. Not overpriced at all while still being a high end all inclusive.
Very clean resort. Room cleaned everyday. No complaints.
No complaints for the noise level.
Service was a 10/10 from servers, entertainment, front desk personnel, and everyone else who made our stay memorable.
Luis, the entertainment guy was our absolute favorite person. We did all of the pool activities with him and were so sad when his shift was finished for the day each day. He kept us occupied with aqua aerobics, pool volleyball, trivia, and so much more! He had us laughing all day long and made me a bracelet on our last day! We miss him already!
The food, drinks and entertainment were fantastic. Special thanks to Luis, Nedal, and Urbano for making the trip fun and enjoyable.
