Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I’ve been on 43 all-inclusive vacations, so I have a lot to compare this experience to. There were definitely positives, but also several disappointments.
🌴 Grounds
The hotel grounds were beautiful and well maintained.
🍽️ Food
The buffet food was good, but extremely repetitive. Breakfast, lunch and dinner had many of the same options for all 7 days.
☕ Service
The buffet wait staff was practically non-existent. We constantly had to ask for coffee and drinks, and once served, they NEVER came back for refills.
The omelette-station cook was also very unfriendly — never said hello, never said you’re welcome when we thanked him, and didn’t acknowledge our tips, even though we tipped him every day.
The adult-pool bartender was RUDE. When I ordered a drink, he would often continue cleaning the bar for 1–2 minutes without making eye contact before serving me.
🏊 Family Pool
The family-pool CHAIR POLICY was ridiculous. The attendant would time us and write the time on a clipboard, telling us chairs couldn’t be unattended for more than 30 minutes. We weren’t reserving chairs for hours and disappearing. We literally placed towels down and got into the pool (in front of him). We eventually got so frustrated that we stopped using the family pool for the rest of the week.
🔇 Adult Pool
Unfortunately, the adult pool was BORING. There was little to no entertainment, and later in the afternoon they played very soft, spa-like music. Adult pool doesn’t have to mean quiet pool.
📍 Location
The location was excellent. A taxi to downtown 5th Avenue was about $10 CAD, with tons of restaurants, shops, bars and clubs.
🌊 Beach
The beach was TERRIBLE during our stay due to heavy sargassum. We didn’t even put our toes in the water once during the entire week. Obviously, sargassum isn’t completely within the resort’s control.
⭐ Overall
Beautiful grounds and a great location, but poor service, repetitive food, restrictive pool rules, lack of adult-pool entertainment and the unusable beach really took away from the experience.
From the moment we arrived at the host table, we were greeted with such warmth and enthusiasm by Nicholas. The dinner team consisting of Elio, Uciel, and Erick were taking such care of us and made us feel at home with their jokes and smiles. The food was impeccable, every option that we got from the entree to the dessert was a treat. For entrees we got the salad and the hummus which were so delicious and did the job for opening up our appetite. The mains were the tuna steak, the beef steak, and the shrimp were all exactly what the theme is: a fusion of flavours that was very special. Dessert was a nice wrap to the entire night. This wasn’t just dinner it was an experience. :)
Service was excellent, waiters and servers were so nice! The team composed of —Elio, Ucial, Erik, Nicolas— were so gracious and welcoming. I ordered the tuna steak and I must say I think it is the best thing on the menu. A must try if you make a reservation at the Cosmopolitan!
Everyone is very welcoming! Big shout out to Nicholas, Elio, Uciel, and Erick for making our dinner feel luxurious and fun. Thank you for a great time.
Just returned after an amazing stay at Viva Maya. We had a great time. The rooms were clean, bed super comfy and air con was great. The food was good in the main buffet. We also tried two restaurants- Portafino which was amazing and The Mexican restaurant which was good too. Check in was easy. All of the staff on the report were friendly and helpful. The entertainment team are amazing and run things all day. Theres always something to do. The pool was good and we didn't find it to busy. The beach sand was lovely. The only downside was the Sargassum which is a Mexico wide issue, it's thick and stinks. Turtles laid eggs on the beach which was exciting. There is lots of wildlife around the hotel which was so lovely to see too.
