They gave me food poisoning & tried to scam me
DO NOT GO. This is one of the worst resorts I've been to.
I got food poisoning from dinner at the Mexican Feista they hosted. When I asked for help, they sent a lifeguard, the concierge, and a random manager to check on me. The lifeguard took my vitals but literally had to look up BP readings to know what it meant. After that, the manger who had said 0 prior, asked me how much alcohol I had had (zero, I don't drink) and tried to get me to sign something indemnifying them of all wrong doing. Absolutely not. They ARE responsible for getting me sick.
Then they told me their resort doctor could come see me. BUT you can't know the price until AFTER the doctor sees you. I told them that's a scam. You have to know the cost of a service before you buy it. They wouldn't budge. They also refused to pay for the doctor despite being the ones who got me sick.
When I asked for help getting a later car to the airport -- since my friend was leaving 3hrs before me -- they told me they can only arrange one car per reservation. WTF. You can't help me book a taxi???
Beyond getting sick, the resort sucked overall. --The food was not good. It was plane quality. --We had booked a room with two beds and they simply didn't have it. My friend had to sleep on a roll away bed. Ridiculous. ---the air conditioner was leaking so much that the paint was coming off the wall and we had to have a towel down the whole time. --they said each building had its own concierge. Which is true except if they are on their weekend. Our concierge was unavailable on Friday and Saturday. --we booked a tour to Cancun through the hotel. It was described to me as a 3-stop catamaran cruise. Our trip was only 2-stops. But the other group who drove over with us was on a 3-stop cruise. So we didn't get what we were told we booked and paid for.
The ground are beautiful. That's the only thing this place has going for it. I will NEVER stay here or any Barcelo property again.

Beautiful Royal Hideaway
Excellent resort, food, staff and beach. Great location, close to Cancun airport and Playa del Carmen. Love this resort and the beach here.
A perfect relaxing place for vacation
I had an amazing time at Royal Hideaway Playacar! The pricing for this resort is great. You get so much for what you pay. The food and drinks were all amazing. Everything was fresh and well prepared. My favorite restaurant was Ventanas.
The room was perfect. It was always nice and cool. The water pressure in the shower was great. The bed was super comfortable. Housekeeping did an amazing job.
The property itself is beautiful and well kept. Very clean. This is a nice quiet resort. I would not recommend going to this resort if you are looking to party. This is the perfect place to relax. The pool closest to the beach was always in pristine shape. We spent our non activity days relaxing at the pool. There was lots of sargassum but that’s to be expected traveling mid August. They had staff working to get the sargassum off the beach. We knew it would be like this so planned all our off resort activities around that and had a wonderful time.
The staff were all incredibly kind and helpful. Sucel was super helpful in getting dinner reservations set up and recommending things to check out in the area. Our concierge Fernanda was also amazing! She helped make some adjustments to dinner reservations after we arrived and had answers for all our questions. Carlos Quintal did amazing work hosting at the Grill!

The manager Jessica was wonderful! I had a relaxing massage with Guadalupe and she was amazing! She tended to all the areas that I wanted.I would recommend getting a massage with her, it was a 10 out of 10!
10th time and counting!
I love this resort for relaxing and spending time with my husband and our friends. Ricky always takes excellent care of us as a concierge and Jorge, Genaro, Eduardo, and Luis take great care of us at the pool. Wilson is a newer waiter at the restaurants, but he has definitely stood out as providing outstanding service on several occasions. This is not a big, crowded, party environment, but more a relaxing and laid back time. The pool is awesome, the drinks are better than most all-inclusives, and we keep coming back here over and over again. When we try a new place, it only makes us want to come back to Royal Hideaway again, it feels just like coming home.
