The family-friendly Club Riu Tequila is excellently situated just south of the famous holiday resort of Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera, close to the white sandy beach and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. It features a charming colonial style architecture, a lovely garden and pool landscape and 24-hour all inclusive, making it an ideal place for families with children.
Great holiday staff excellent shame about TUI had a medical incident at home TUI failed to get me home so I had to use a different carrier
Just returned from 2 weeks at RIU Tequila and really enjoyed our holiday, far exceeded our expectations after reading some reviews so please don’t let them put you off. Everything we asked for we received, thank you Tequila. The staff are really friendly and helpful, there are too many to name them all but special mention for Alesandro (Sandy in Grease),Leydi with the drinks trolley and Luis from the Coconut bar. The rooms are large and comfortable and cleaned daily, fresh towels and bedding when you require. Plenty of food choice, something for everyone. We visited all the speciality restaurants, except the Mexican, and enjoyed all of them. The hotel isn’t situated by the beach but it’s only a 5 - 10 minute walk or take the shuttle buggy. The sea grass at this time of year isn’t good but it’s a natural problem and efforts are made to clean it up. Definitely hope to return in the near future with friends. Tanks Tequila for a lovely holiday.
What a fantastic holiday we had . Our first time in Mexico and the riu tequila and we are already looking into coming back . Front the moment we arrive until the tranfer back to cancun all the staff we interacted with we so polite and helpful. Our rooms 1411/1412 we spacious and always cleaned and minibar stocked daily . The hotel and its grounds are so well maintained and always looking great . Food choices all day were plentiful and always tasted great . We visited all the alacarte restaurants and were really impressed with the food . The pool bar was the eye opening and we had many a really great day drinking and dancing in the pool . Special thanks to the buggy driver taking us to the beach always smiling and the chicken horn made us giggle everytime. What can I say about the white and neon party other than wow wow wow . If I have to put 1 down side it would be the evening entertainilment abba show . Not the worse we have overseen buy any stretch of the imagination but was not as good as the other nights. That was the only negative thing I can say . Riu tequila you will not see the last of us thanks for a amazing 2 weeks can't wait to return
Stayed for 2 weeks and although we had a great time there were a few issues with the hotel. First thing we noticed was there is no privacy when using the shower which is not ideal if you are not travelling as part of a couple, had to improvise and use towels to cover. Easy solution, just frost the glass. Our rooms also had a problem with flying insects (? ants/small wasps) was supposedly treated but happened again a day later, came back to our rooms and both rooms were covered in them, our family had to move rooms at midnight, which wasn’t ideal. Our other rooms were okay but did have a normal ant nest within the balcony wall cavity, spoke with reception in the morning and the lady was quite dismissive initially however I was offered another room change but opted to try and treat it. A can of ant spray was brought up to the room and we had to treat it ourselves, the stuff worked thankfully after spraying most of the can down the hole. Didn’t let this spoil our time there though. Food at the buffet restaurant at breakfast had a good selection and had everything you needed to make most types of breakfast meals but as with all buffet restaurants does become repetitive, you just need to be creative with it. À la carte restaurants are okay, very noisy, can barely hear each other and menus never change. Really more like themed buffets. The main reception area and where the shows are held needs air con as it’s really hot unless you get a table right down the front, but got to be quick for those as always taken early. Sports bar is great for cooling down and has brilliant service from the two women who are always on at night, sorry didn’t catch the names, as you were always so busy, but they are outstanding! Also, the entertainment team are amazing and really work hard for the shows, loved the aqua aerobics too - great fun, shout out to Daniel,Allan, Alfredo, Kayla and Nolberto. Rooms are in need of a wee update but are kept really clean. Stayed away from the pool with the bar after reading other reviews, it was always really rowdy and did see it closed and cordoned off once.Don’t think I would ever stay again as much preferred the Dreams hotel in Playa Mujeres. I would also avoid eating at the RIU Yucatan beach restaurant as walked by on way down to the beach and birds were eating the food laid out before it opened, they fly about the whole restaurant and staff do nothing to deter them. Definitely recommend Xplor if you like to have a more adrenaline filled day out but be prepared for lots of walking. TUI reps Luke and Tamara were also great, with advice and help when needed.
We went for 2 weeks from 23rd of June 26. I will only stay in Riu hotels going forward. We absolutely loved everything about this hotel. The staff especially Alahandro our cleaner were just amazing. The facilities are brilliant and the food is fantastic. Going to book Riu palace in Punta Cana for next year because we loved the experience so much.
