We loved everything about this hotel. It’s perfect — just two blocks from Fifth Avenue and located right on the beach. The decor is truly charming. Impeccable service from the front desk to the restaurant staff and the housekeepers. Hector, Karine and especially Alma made sure our stay was perfect and gave us service that was more than outstanding. We stayed seven nights in the suite, which is absolutely beautiful with panoramic sea views and a private terrace. On the last day we had to change rooms because our suite was no longer available; we were given a room with a king bed and a partial ocean view, which was just as perfect.
Breakfast à la carte is included and very good — I recommend it 100%.
If you like getting sleep on your vacation, then I would not recommend this hotel. The location is surrounded by night clubs that blast music at excessive levels until 3am every night. Trust me on this. I expected some background noise of course - but not this lunacy. Ear plugs did not help. I wish I could post a video/audio I took at 2am one night. You can feel the base. If you read the other 1-2 star reviews, which I neglected to do prior to booking, it appears this has been a problem for many years now. The lack of sleep really ruined my 3-4 days in Playa del Carmen.
Positives: The hotel has a fun and pleasant jungle-feel to it, especially from the lobby into the main courtyard. You are also walking distance to everything. The staff is super friendly, attentive and accessible. The restaurant area was quaint and clean, right on the waters edge. I had a wonderful complimentary breakfast each day. My room was clean and relatively comfortable for one person.
Other considerations: The hotel “beach” is washed out at this point, so be careful of old photos that show a full white sand beach. It currently has sand bags on the water’s edge which was dark and murky close to shore when I was there. My room was adequate but the bed was a little small and the mattress was a bit stiff. The room also did not feel super secure - it was right off the main path to the restaurant. The door lock is just a push button on the knob - there is no bolt. Also the security safe is too small and not large enough for even an iPad. Lastly, this is a bit petty, but you get a large set of keys/key chain for your room that you have to carry around with you everywhere which was a pain. An updated electronic locking system and simple key card would have been much easier.
If you plan to party and stay out to the wee hours each night, this hotel probably would work for you! But if you want to go to bed at a decent hour, wake up refreshed, and get more than 3-4 hours of sleep each night, then I would pass.
Eduardo hooked me up at the beach and the bar. Great new friend! Check it out if your into beautiful views and great service!
From the moment I arrived at Colibri Beach Hotel, I felt like I found one of those rare places that gives you the true tropical Caribbean experience people dream about.
The atmosphere here is so exotic, peaceful, and beautiful. You wake up literally facing the ocean, surrounded by palm trees, soft beach vibes, and this warm artisan-style design that makes the entire place feel authentic and full of soul. The rooms are spacious, charming, comfortable, and full of character — not cold or generic like many hotels.
And honestly… the location is almost impossible to beat.
You are directly on the beach, only a few steps from Fifth Avenue, close to the ferry, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and all the activities Playa del Carmen is famous for — yet somehow it still feels relaxing and private at the same time.
But one of the biggest surprises for me was the restaurant and the breakfast. WOW. The breakfast is included in the price, and honestly it’s amazing. Everything tastes fresh, flavorful, and made with care. They cook beautifully here. Every morning became something I looked forward to, sitting by the beach, eating incredible food, and enjoying the atmosphere.
The staff has also been incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes such a huge difference during a stay. You can truly feel the hospitality and good energy everywhere around the property.
What impressed me most is the value for what you get. For this price, this beachfront location, this atmosphere, the food, the service, and the experience — I genuinely don’t think you can find a better place to stay in Playa del Carmen.
I recommend this place from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
First of all, the atmosphere and staff were amazing! A special shoutout to Alma for making everything so easy for us, especially since it was our first time there.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great stay filled with adventure, fun, and memorable experiences. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
