Hacienda Maria Bonita Hotel is a colorful budget option in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Rooms are basically furnished yet clean and Cozy. The Hotel team consisted of friendly and helpful individuals who made their best efforts to make sure your needs were met. The decor used throughout the complex is what makes this place uniquely memorable. Paintings of all types and sizes are found all over . From of the walls, of the rooms, to the staircases , common areas and even the toilets. You’ll also find random artifacts from a gigantic bell, to a life size Cross you’d more likely expect to find at a church and not on the pastel colored hotel walls. The pool area is welcoming and are you’re likely to find yourself cooling off some of the afternoon heat. The main beach is located two blocks away and you’ll find all types of food establishments/bars anywhere you turn.
There were no beds. It was a thick mattress on. Top of some bricks. Dirty windows, dirty mirrors, bad lighting. I had to wait 3 days for a fridge. The guy who was mainly at the reception very grumpy and not helpful. The rest of staff were ok. Damp smell
I don't usually stay in luxury hotels, but I don't stay in cheap motels either. This was definitely on the cheap side. The rooms are very basic and mostly clean. I was concerned about the number of mosquitos in the room and opted to apply bug repellent before going to bed. On the plus side, the air conditioner worked well. And other than the guy who didn't want to be bothered to check me in, the rest of the staff were awesome and friendly. Also the place is walkable to the beach and a number of restaurants/bars.
The pillows are bumpy hard rocks and the next door night club runs till about 4am! There is no option to swap pillows.
While the location itself is excellent for being downtown, it’s very noisy. This is a budget hotel with zero amenities. You can rent extra blankets, and a fridge! You get A bed and a shower at best. Breakfast at the separate cafe outside is lovely though. I dont think it’s related to this hotel. There is a cute car onsite.
My husband and I had a reservation for one night, March 8 (which I had made online the day before). When we checked in, I gave the lady my paperwork that included our name, confirmation number and date. She gave us one room key and room number and we spent the night. The next morning my husband noticed on his credit card bill that he had been charged twice. Figuring it was a mistake, we went to the desk and told them the problem. The lady said we had reserved two rooms so we had to pay for two. Over and over we explained that we had only been given one key and had only needed and stayed in one room (which they understood) but for some reason still insisted we had to pay for two rooms. We didn't understand that reasoning at all but the lady at the desk went to get another lady who also confirmed that we had reserved two rooms (one online and one the night before). Since we had transportation to catch (we were only stopping here for one night between places) we had to just leave and hope they would adjust our credit card bill, which they did not. We feel extremely cheated and that surely they know there was no way we had reserved two rooms. If we weren't losing money on the deal it would almost be comical. Also, my husband and I were looking forward to a good night's sleep since that was our travel day and we were going to travel again the next morning, but we got ZERO sleep until after 3:00 a.m. when the night club across the street Coco Bongo closed. We both love music but this sounded like the band was in our room solid until three in the morning. We couldn't sleep a wink. So, unless you are absolutely desperate, do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE!
