Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen

Very nice casual, small resort. Staff (Jesé, Melanie, etc) go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. Food was very tasty, cocktails at Pour were phenomenal. No swim up bar (service for drinks at pool spotty) and small number of restaurants were open at varying times. Made it confusing to know when open. Pools were lovely infinity pools with full ocean view. Been to many resorts in Playa Del Carmen and rooms were average.

Let’s start with the good. Rooms were comfortable although there is loud music at times from next door hotels. Pools are great and service is excellent. Beds were comfortable although. Drinks were just OK. Nothing special unless you go to the Speakeasy. Angel the bartender did a great job. Food was disappointing. If you’re with someone you had both better like the specialty food. Asian was all Asian. Literally nothing else for those that don’t like Asian. Mexican was truly Mexican and spicy. Nothing else offered. The steak house offered one steak that wasn’t an upgrade and it was just OK. The buffet was good but only offered at breakfast. They never did open the Mediterranean restaurant the week I was there. The fish restaurant only offered fish. My wife loves fish, but I don’t eat it, so we skipped it as there was literally nothing else on the menu. They did a pretty good job about keeping the seaweed clear in front of the hotel property. There is no nightly entertainment per se. Once in a while, they would have a DJ playing music, but that was about it. I like the hotel and the service was great, but I wouldn’t return. The lack of variety in the restaurants was a huge disappointment.
