- El Taj Oceanfront and Beachside Condo Hotel

El Taj Oceanfront and Beachside Condo Hotel is the proud recipient of the 2014 & 2013 TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award for top hotels in Mexico. It was also chosen as one of the top luxury hotels in Mexico, in addition to one of the trendiest hotels. Playa del Carmen has no other hotel that has won all these top three categories.
El Taj has also received recognition from The New York Times and USA Today for its design, luxury, and excellence in service. We are not an all-inclusive Ritz-type resort, but we are considered to be the best of the area's hotels. Playa del Carmen has a lot to offer, but nothing compares to El Taj.
El Taj's luxury units have one to four bedrooms that feature huge living rooms and fully equipped kitchens with private outdoor hot tubs on many terraces. El Taj offers 57 spacious units in total, situated on two separate sister properties.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
My husband and I stayed five nights from Jan 24-Jan 29 in unit 320 2-bedroom penthouse with rooftop terrace
It was beautiful, clean and comfortable (not the couch)
Pros: Rooftop Location Views Concierge services - groceries upon arrival, golf cart service, transportation Comfortable beds Coffee for more than one pot Kitchen amenities Noise machine Fans Hot and cold water drinking system
Cons: Elevator not working 51 long deep steps to unit - more from lobby and to terrace- especially tiring after a day of exploring

No beach or much pool space but they’ll help you with other beach options
All in all a great place!

Perfect time to stay and we’ll be back!
Just got home from a wonderful trip to Playa Del Carmen. We chose El Taj Beachfront condos for our stay - We were in 337 and we had 3 bedrooms with 3 baths. Outside was a hot tub for our unit, tables and lounge chairs. The inside was lovely and all rooms had their own control of their temperature. Beds were comfortable and we were right above the restaurant, pool and the few beach chairs. There is really not .... lots of rocks and the fishing boats, scuba boats tie up here for the evening.
The food at ASI (??) the restaurant below was really great for breakfast. We were just a block from The Martini Bar (my favorite) and a small two blocks to 5th Avenue. It was very centrally located.
There were 4 of us and we really enjoyed the condo and its amenities. We will be back the next time we all want to stay together. WE had a washer/dryer, dishwasher, coffee maker, access to beach towels etc.
We had a wonderful experience thanks to Claudia, our room service attendant. She consistently kept our room clean, fresh, and absolutely spotless throughout our stay. Her attention to detail and dedication did not go unnoticed. It was always a pleasure returning to such a well-maintained space. Thank you, Claudia, for your excellent service and for making our stay so comfortable!
We are on a combined business and family trip. This condohotel was perfect! You get massage and restaurant discounts. The room selection is wide and can fit most budgets depending upon your budget. Front staff and bellman were very helpful. Our condo was very clean and well stocked with everything you would need (except groceries) if you decided to cook. Within walking distance of malls, ferries to Cozumel, and shopping area, restaurants, etc. Has two pools. Some of the larger condos have private patios. Some rooms have views of the sea. If you are tired of big chain hotels--think El Taj Playa Del Carmen Mexico
There is a very bad smell throughout the rooms and property. It is extremely strong and gave my kids migraines. They did not disclose this to us ahead of our stay. It is really not tolerable. We have the fans and AC on with all of the doors and windows closed and cannot escape the smell. The pools are also very dirty and property needs a lot of updating. It is definitely not worth the price you’re paying.
