- Allegro Playacar All Inclusive Resort

The Occidental Allegro Playacar All Inclusive is a great beach hotel, surround by lush tropical gardens and greenery, and is very conveniently located just in front of the beach, providing guests with magnificent views. Local beaches, renowned for their spectacular white sand and crystal clear waters are close by. Playa del Carmen town is also easily reachable, here guests will find a variety of leisure and shopping possibilities as well as restaurants and other interesting sites. The hotel provides a wide range of dining options, entertainment and leisure facilities in unlimited amounts.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
First I’ll start with the positives from this resort. It is CLEAN & the staff is excellent. The grounds have mature vegetation & an abundance of wildlife. The beach is excellent also we just had the misfortune of it being sargasso season. Nothing the resort can do about that. The location is also great. We felt extremely safe as the community is gated along with the resort. There is a small market less than a 5 minute walk or if you are a good walker it is 1 mile to 5th avenue for shopping and nightlife or a $10 cab ride. There were always cabs available when we needed them. And I must mention the hammocks on every balcony/porch. This was my favorite thing. Now the rest…This is an older property and does show that. The roofs are thatched with no insulation other than a mosquito net so the AC has no chance of getting anything other than cool. Also due to this everything was damp all the time. Our double room mattresses were like sleeping on a board & the pillows were just random lumps or so overstuffed it was like a rock. The king beds were a bit softer but still low grade. The resort says it has 4 restaurants but they only have the buffet & 1 “specialty” restaurant open a day. For the specialty restaurant you must be in line by 9:00 am for them to start taking reservations at 9:30 and they only seat about 15-20 people per evening. Overall the food was edible and that’s about it. There is not much variety from day to day (none at breakfast) and the food is bland. The lunch buffet was a little better but still not what I would consider good. The Pizza was the best food option. There is no snack bar or dessert options out side of buffet hours. Dessert was sad being jello, a few not good cakes & 1-2 flavors of ice cream. The alcohol was all local brands until Friday & Saturday when some mid grade name brands showed up. We were very disappointed with the quality of food. If you are looking for a no frills resort on a budget this is not a bad stay. It’s clean & the staff are wonderful. It’s worth considering if you are on a tight budget or it’s your first trip to an all inclusive.
Not enough characters to describe this hotel. Terrible accommodations food and cleanliness. I never stayed in an all inclusive like this. Food and beverage the worst
We have stayed at the Allegro multiple time. We love it. Our last stay was February of 2025. We were told at that time they were closing that fall for two years for re construction. What happened? Due to the pending construction in February 2026 we stayed at the sister resort on Cozumel. They are identical. It was lovely. Don't get me wrong, we are very happy it was not torn down and are booked for this February 2027 in Playa Del Carmen.
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel and truly enjoyed our vacation. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and everything was well organized.
A special thank you goes to Angel from the entertainment team. He made our stay even more enjoyable! He had an amazing ability to get everyone excited to join the activities and always created a fun and welcoming atmosphere. He was always happy to have a chat and made every guest feel included.
One of the most special moments was when he hand-made a friendship bracelet for us as a lasting memory of our holiday. It was such a thoughtful and personal gesture that we will always remember.
Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable. We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to come back again!
We had an amazing stay in Mexico! I truly enjoyed every moment of this vacation. I spent a lot of time playing football, swimming, and enjoying all the activities the resort had to offer.
The entertainment team was fantastic, and I especially want to thank Angel. He is incredibly energetic, always involved, and one of the friendliest people I’ve met. He made every activity fun and made everyone feel welcome.
The atmosphere, the staff, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. This has honestly been one of the best vacations I’ve ever had, and I would definitely book this resort again without hesitation.
Highly recommended!
