Ideally located in the prime touristic area of Varkala, Hindustan Beach Retreat promises a relaxing and wonderful visit. The property features a wide range of facilities to make your stay a pleasant experience. Service-minded staff will welcome and guide you at the Hindustan Beach Retreat.
Guestrooms are fitted with all the amenities you need for a good night's sleep. In some of the rooms, guests can find internet access – wireless, non smoking rooms, air conditioning, wake-up service, desk.
The hotel's peaceful atmosphere extends to its recreational facilities which include hot tub, fitness center, outdoor pool, spa, massage. A welcoming atmosphere and excellent service are what you can expect during your stay at Hindustan Beach Retreat.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I have had a long association with this hotel and always found it pleasant to stay. The location, bang at Papanasam Beach, while at walking distance from the Janardanaswami Temple, is great. The tortoise motif everywhere keeps telling to 'slow down' and live the life of yours instead of zipping around in a rush. That really is fine. The rooms are, as always, well appointed and each room has a great view of the beach and the sea. Kudos to the Architect (Ar. C Muralee of Trivandrum). Poor response was to phone calls from House keeping was anb unexpected jarring nopte in an otherwise most enjoyable stay. The reception has top class staff. Their Operations Manager, Shri. Anoop, was super helpful in arranging our get together, local travel etc etc and his name is worth mentioning here. Possibly one of the best choices in varkala.
We was eating on there resturant. It was so bad. We waited oner 1 hour and when the food came it was cold and the meet was so bad that I wouldent give a dog it. When we ask the chef way it was so bad he started angry talk back. I will never go there again.
My sister and I are currently staying at this hotel, and unfortunately our experience has not been very pleasant. The service has been disappointing, and the food did not meet our expectations. The Wi-Fi is also not working, which has been quite inconvenient for us.
To give an example, I ordered a simple chicken club sandwich and fresh milk tea. However, they sent a vegetarian sandwich and tea made with condensed milk, which was far too sweet. When I requested a replacement, they only added a few shredded pieces of chicken to the same sandwich, and it still did not taste good. This really shows the lack of attention to detail and care in food preparation.
Overall, the quality of service and food needs serious improvement. I hope management will look into these issues and make the necessary changes for future guests.
Shower was full of mould, ants in room and bathrum sink. Requested extra bed in booking, the blanket was full of someone else hair. If you looking for a morning walk next to beach, it is terrible as this place is very busy in morning due to creamation prayer activities. You will not get a morning beach walk vibe. Not recommended at all.
⭐ Great Location, But Sadly That’s Where the Luxury Ends
The location is prime. Sadly, the hotel itself is far from it.
The reception area gives a very good first impression, but unfortunately, that impression quickly disappears once you enter the rooms. It was almost a case of “don’t judge a hotel by its reception.”
I was initially allocated a room on the second floor and was so disappointed that I had to request a different room. As this stay was meant to be a special treat for a family member, I was particularly unhappy with the experience.
I was moved to a much larger room, but had to pay extra for it. Unfortunately, bigger didn’t mean better.
The bathroom drain had an appalling smell, the bathtub had visible grey scuff marks and the overall hygiene was not what I would expect from a hotel of this standard. It took more than 10 minutes for the shower to produce hot water, and the towels were discoloured.
The toilet flush was faulty in both rooms. When flushed, water sprayed upwards and outwards — certainly not something you expect to experience during a hotel stay!
The swimming pool was also out of service and awaiting repairs, with no indication of when it would actually be operational again. The lift wasn’t working either, and even the staff mobile phone appeared to have problems.
On a positive note, the staff were genuinely lovely. They were friendly, courteous and helpful, and I have no complaints about the service they provided. They were doing their best despite the obvious shortcomings of the property.
Unfortunately, the hotel itself appears tired and in desperate need of a serious refurbishment and better maintenance. A prime location can only take you so far. You can have the best address in town, but guests still have to sleep in the rooms, use the bathrooms and expect basic facilities to work.
I was actually under the impression that this was a 4-star hotel, only to discover that it is rated 3-star. My 7-year-old, after experiencing the room, had no hesitation whatsoever in giving it her own rating:
“I’d give it 0 stars.” 😂
And honestly, after paying extra for a larger room and still encountering these issues, I could understand where she was coming from.
In summary: ⭐⭐⭐? The location deserves it. The staff deserve it. The hotel itself needs some serious work before it deserves anything close to luxury status.
A refurbishment, proper maintenance and attention to basic hygiene would make a world of difference.
