Eighth Bastion

A beautiful little hotel that became part of our Fort Kochi experience

We spent three nights and four days at Eighth Bastion, staying in a Bastion Room with a Private Terrace, and by the time we left, the hotel had become an integral part of everything we loved about Fort Kochi.

It is a small, intimate and beautifully designed property with a wonderful sense of calm. Our room was comfortable and full of character, and having our own private terrace was a lovely bonus — particularly after spending hours walking around Fort Kochi in the heat.

The location is excellent. We explored almost everything on foot — cafés, restaurants, art galleries, heritage streets and the waterfront are all within easy reach. Yet every time we returned, Eighth Bastion felt wonderfully removed from the bustle outside. It became our quiet little retreat.

The hotel has one restaurant, which we initially wondered about, but it was never an issue. The menu is extensive enough to offer plenty of choice, and we enjoyed the food we had there. During our stay, alcoholic beverages were limited to beer and wine rather than a full bar, which is useful to know in advance. It didn’t bother us at all, particularly with so many excellent places to eat and drink within walking distance.

But what really stayed with us was the hospitality.

There is a difference between good service and genuine warmth, and Eighth Bastion has the latter. The entire team was outstanding — attentive without hovering, warm without being overly formal, and always seeming to understand when we needed something and when we simply wanted to enjoy the quiet.

A special mention to Nidhin, whose name we made sure to remember. He was wonderful throughout our stay — warm, attentive and genuinely hospitable. And in many ways, he reflected what we experienced from the entire team: hospitality that never felt rehearsed or transactional, just naturally kind.

Over four days, that warmth made Eighth Bastion feel less like a hotel and more like our little home in Fort Kochi.

We left completely charmed by Fort Kochi and with the realization that there was still so much we hadn’t explored.

So there will definitely be a next time.

And when we return, we know where we’d like to stay.

This is a beautiful property located right next to the fort kochi beach.We stayed there for 3 days in our trip to kochi.All major attractions were near by this property. The property offered a specious room equipped with many accessories.The bfast we had at the restaurant were delicious and full with variety.The staff was welcoming , kind and they always greet us with a smile. This property also provide a complimentary tuk tuk ride to all the attractions in fort kochi which we enjoyed it( on a rainy day) Thanks to the team for hosting us and will certainly recommend if you are looking for a stay in fort kochi.
