Some Places Just Get Hospitality Right
A beautiful little hotel that became part of our Fort Kochi experience
We spent three nights and four days at Eighth Bastion, staying in a Bastion Room with a Private Terrace, and by the time we left, the hotel had become an integral part of everything we loved about Fort Kochi.
It is a small, intimate and beautifully designed property with a wonderful sense of calm. Our room was comfortable and full of character, and having our own private terrace was a lovely bonus — particularly after spending hours walking around Fort Kochi in the heat.
The location is excellent. We explored almost everything on foot — cafés, restaurants, art galleries, heritage streets and the waterfront are all within easy reach. Yet every time we returned, Eighth Bastion felt wonderfully removed from the bustle outside. It became our quiet little retreat.
The hotel has one restaurant, which we initially wondered about, but it was never an issue. The menu is extensive enough to offer plenty of choice, and we enjoyed the food we had there. During our stay, alcoholic beverages were limited to beer and wine rather than a full bar, which is useful to know in advance. It didn’t bother us at all, particularly with so many excellent places to eat and drink within walking distance.
But what really stayed with us was the hospitality.
There is a difference between good service and genuine warmth, and Eighth Bastion has the latter. The entire team was outstanding — attentive without hovering, warm without being overly formal, and always seeming to understand when we needed something and when we simply wanted to enjoy the quiet.
A special mention to Nidhin, whose name we made sure to remember. He was wonderful throughout our stay — warm, attentive and genuinely hospitable. And in many ways, he reflected what we experienced from the entire team: hospitality that never felt rehearsed or transactional, just naturally kind.
Over four days, that warmth made Eighth Bastion feel less like a hotel and more like our little home in Fort Kochi.
We left completely charmed by Fort Kochi and with the realization that there was still so much we hadn’t explored.
So there will definitely be a next time.
And when we return, we know where we’d like to stay.

A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff members.
As a solo Lady traveller, I really enjoyed staying at Eighth Bastion Fort Kochi Hotel: beautiful extra clean hotel, lovely staff members, welcoming and very helpful, polite, warm and friendly. Not joking, it's just been perfect! They have organised for free a tuktuk Tour of Fort Kochi with Aslam which was absolutely great! Also, the food the Chef is preparing is out of this world, delicious, exquisite and a real work of Art! You will enjoy staying at this amazing hotel, don't hesitate!
What a great find in Fort Kochi
Great hotel, clean, lovely staff and great A La Carte menu. Chef even came out and asked if we enjoyed the food. The rooms were a very good size, lots of hot water in the shower, good wi fi, working lift for luggage. Staff couldn't do enough to help . Location very near to some of the main sights in Fort Kochi
Charming Boutique Hotel
A charming boutique hotel in the perfect location for exploring Fort Kochi. From the moment we arrived, the staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, making us feel completely at home. Their kindness and hospitality were exceptional, and it was such a lovely touch to be waved off when we left.
The hotel is centred around a beautiful courtyard with a stunning frangipani tree and a wonderfully inviting swimming pool. The water was always at the perfect temperature, making it a delight to return to after a day of sightseeing.
The restaurant offers a quality dining experience, with excellent food complemented by a good wine selection and refreshing Kingfisher beer.
A peaceful, elegant hotel with outstanding service. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fort KochI.

An outstanding experience
I had a fabulous stay at Eighth Bastion. The hotel is really well located so the main part of Fort Kochi is within easy walking distance. The staff at the hotel all went out of their way to be helpful. The rooms were very clean and super comfortable. The food at the restaurant both for breakfast and dinner was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel.
