staff don't know about customer hospitality,I have very bad experience with Fairview Hotel. They always disturbing to their customers
We stayed at this hotel on two occasions, on both times it was disappointing with the room, on the first occasion we stayed for two weeks, after three day's there was a humming noise came from the electricity distribution box, we reported this and an electrician came and checked and told it's a vibration and it was fixed, later in the night it started again and we couldn't sleep. The next day i reported this to the reception, and the same electrician came and said the wire fixing is rusted and he has cleared the rust. The noise appeared again and the next day another electrician came and he removed the cover of the distribution box and was fiddling with it and told us it's fixed, but still the noise was present, when questioned he told that all the rooms in the hotel has the same problem and we have to adjust with it. We didn't like his comment's. The next morning i informed the reception and they sent another engineer, who inspected it and told the circuit breaker need to be change and he did that. We were very disappointed with this as it took them to deal with this issue for four to five day's. They did not offer any apology or compensate for the disturbing stay. How ever we checked out.
We rebooked into the same hotel for another week, on the first night, about 1:30 am the air conditioning system was making a loud noise, called the reception and a man came and told us that it's very noisy and offered to move into another room just for the night. We couldn't sleep in that room as we had all our belonging's inside the other room and was wider awake.
Next morning informed the reception and came in contact with the maintenance manager, he sent an electrician and he removed the entire unit and was repairing it, this was very uncomfortable for us as we needed to rest. It took more than an hour to sort this issue.
When i asked for compensation for the first night of stay, the Maintenance Manager and an electrician came to the room and was telling that this was the first time that he is hearing that someone is asking for compensation or reduction for the inconvenience. He then went on to say that the hotel has bought some A/C units to replace, and also said that some equipment they have bought is faulty and the hotel is unable to claim compensation. I told him that it is nothing to do with me as i am a guest. When speaking to few staff at the hotel, they also confirmed that they have issues with the A/C units and plenty of guests have complained before.
On reviewing some of the previous guests, it is apparent they have complained before with the same noise issue coming from the A/C. I think the hotel is turning a blind eye, the maintenance manager 's attitude and rudeness is very un professional. He came across me on two occasions and did not even say good morning or hello. Another day while we were resting a maintenance person appeared in the balcony window without warning. He was washing something and looking inside the room, again no apology. It was very embarrassing. Next morning i told a staff in the restaurant about this incident , he said may be he was cleaning the A/C back unit which is located outside the rooms, he also said that they have been told to inform the guests before doing this, but they don't listen. he told me to report to the reception, but we did not.
I asked to speak to the General Manager i believe his name is Mr Perera, but he is no where to be seen.
The hotel need a well deserve refurbishment, the corridor to the bedroom's need updating, the old carpets smell.
I have sent two email's to the hotel requesting the name of the Maintenances manger name, but the have not replied.
Despite this all the other staff were very polite, and very helpful, they all had a pleasant smile. The restaurant staff was very good.
Due to the middle east troubles we had to stay an extra nine days in Colombo and we found this little hotel at a very fair price. Very clean hotel, the room was of a very good size. During the nine days we stayed, we did not find it cramped at all. Everyting and all parts of the hotel was spotless. Being a small hotel, the lobby area was not that big but if was perfectly adequate. The beakfast was changed daily and always had decent variety. The staff were very curteous and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. The location was good with easy access to everything we needed.
If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. My experience at Fairview Hotel was beyond disappointing it was outright frustrating and embarrassing for a property that claims to offer hospitality.
First off, their listing on Booking.com clearly mentions early check-in at 11 AM and late check-out at 2 PM “upon availability.” That’s completely misleading. The front office staff bluntly claimed the hotel was full and refused both requests, yet the same day there were more than 10 rooms available to book online. It’s obvious they just didn’t want to accommodate guests and chose to lie instead.
Secondly, the level of stinginess from the staff was shocking. Something as basic as asking for water bottles or even cups turned into an argument. I had to repeatedly insist and practically fight for the simplest amenities even after paying over 17,000 for the room. It felt less like staying at a hotel and more like begging for basic necessities. Two nights at this hotel and no new towels plus my room was full of garbage.
Breakfast was no better. I was ignored completely and made to sit outside without any attention. No one came to serve, no one checked in I had to actively call someone just to get a cup of coffee. The lack of service was unbelievable.
As someone from the hospitality industry myself, I can confidently say the standards here are extremely poor. The staff made me feel unwelcome and undervalued throughout my stay. This is not how guests should be treated especially at this price point.
To anyone considering staying here: don’t. There are far better hotels around Colombo offering significantly better service for the same price, if not less. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually understands hospitality
I had a wonderful stay at Fair View Hotel Colombo. It is situated in the midst of the city! Across the alley is the old Dutch hospital. The area is full with lovely restaurants and a great vibe.
The suite was large and spacious suite with exceptional views across the city!
The room was immaculate, comfortable, and maintained to a high standard. The staff were lovely, professional and attentive, always willing to assist with a smile.
The hotel offers a welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, and outstanding value for money. I would highly recommend it to both business and leisure travellers seeking comfort, quality, and spectacular views of Colombo. I will most definitly book the Fairview again.
