Located on the warm, golden sandy beach in a cosy fishing village in Kalutara lies a place that some call heaven... an enchanting Sri Lanka beach hotel that is tucked away in a vast coconut grove... where tranquillity meets paradise...sun, sand and sea lovers have discovered their ultimate getaway. The Mermaid Hotel and Club is nestled in a vast coconut grove along a stretch of golden sandy beach in Mahawaskaduwa, a cosy fishing village in the city of Kalutara, situated along the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
The most favoured amongst Kalutara beach hotels, the hotel opened its doors in 1983 and, through regular refurbishments, has kept pace with international standards. The hotel boasts fifty four standard rooms equipped with modern amenities, nine sea view rooms, nine superior sea view rooms and nine spacious deluxe sea view rooms that afford absolute luxury and comfort with direct views of the garden and sea beyond. Other facilities include two swimming pools, a restaurant with an alfresco dining area, 4 bars, sahana spa and a sports centre which offers a range of activities.
With its main swimming pool surrounded by sun lounges and its beautifully manicured gardens extending to the shoreline, this is the ideal retreat for relaxed getaway. The Mermaid Club is located adjacent to the hotel away from the main buildings offering a wide range of sports and recreational activities.
Kalutara derives its name from the ‘Kalu Ganga' or Black River. During colonial times, Kalutara was a hub for the spice trade and has many must-see fortifications that date back to the Portuguese, Dutch and British occupations of Sri Lanka. Another attraction which is considered a must-do is the most revered three-story high hollow stupa that was built on the premises of the Kalutara Vihara in the 1960s.

Very Nice Staff
We stayed at Habitat Kosgoda for our honeymoon, and it was truly a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel special. Our room was beautifully decorated for our honeymoon, and it was clean, comfortable, and had a lovely view. The peaceful atmosphere, well-maintained pool, and beautiful surroundings made our stay even more memorable. A special thank you to Mr. Dulan for his outstanding service. He looked after us so well throughout our stay, especially with the dining experience. His kindness, caring attitude, and attention to detail made a real difference and helped make our honeymoon extra special. We are very grateful to the entire team for their hospitality and warm welcome. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories for us. We look forward to visiting again in the future!
Disappointing
Didn’t rate the room we were in. Bed smelt damp and bathroom wasnt clean. The staff were asked on a couple of occasions for things that never materialised. The staff on reception also didn’t warn us when we were approached by someone we thought to be a rep of the hotel. only to be told by our tour guide, after he confronted the receptionist , who advised him that he was a con man. A con man that they knew about but were too scared to get rid of him ! All in all a disappointing hotel. Wouldn’t recommend
A memorable experience
We visited your property on the afternoon of the 13th. First of all, thank you for the warm welcome we received. I had requested an early check-in, and I truly appreciate that it was accommodated. The food and service were excellent throughout our stay. The swimming pool was clean, well-maintained, and felt very safe. Breakfast was especially impressive, with a wide variety of delicious options available. I do have one small suggestion. There was a spa price list available in the room, and I requested the à la carte menu as well. However, it took some time to receive it, probably because the hotel was fully occupied and the staff were quite busy. It would be helpful if a small menu could be placed in the room, similar to the spa price list. Alternatively, since guests receive a WhatsApp message with hotel details after check-in, the menu could also be shared through WhatsApp upon request. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely visit again in the future. Thank you for your hospitality!

This place is truly a sanctuary of calm and quiet — a hidden gem, the kind of escape you don’t realize you need until you arrive. From the moment we stepped in, there was a sense of serenity that carried throughout our stay.
The rooms were impeccably neat and thoughtfully maintained, offering both comfort and elegance. Every detail felt carefully considered. The room service was prompt and seamless, and the entire team was consistently attentive without ever being intrusive.
A special mention to the ever-gracious GM, Kumar, who made it a point to personally greet guests and ensure everyone felt seen and welcomed — a rare and admirable touch.
The Front Office team — Tharusha, Nadeeka, and Chamodya — were warm, efficient, and always ready to assist with a smile. They are doin exceptional work. Specially Keshawa - Front Office Supervisor treated us very well and we felt special.. Even he is doing the night shift he attend to our needs in any time without hesitation..
At F&B, Hemantha led a team that delivered not just service, but an experience. Sulaj, Tharushi, Dulan, Kavindu, Sandun, and Waruna went above and beyond, making every interaction memorable with their genuine hospitality and attention to detail and the food was amazing..
What truly sets this place apart is its people. Their dedication and warmth elevated our stay far beyond expectations.
A perfect blend of tranquility, comfort, and heartfelt service — we leave with beautiful memories and a strong desire to return.
