- Carana Beach Hotel

The hotel is situated on one of the most picturesque bays on Mahé, the hotel has been designed to accentuate the wild nature of this stunning location. Each chalet boasts a view from every room spilling out onto breath-taking turquoise waters, all framed by a lush tropical garden with a granite backdrop.
Guests can enjoy the intimate white-sand beach at their door step or adventure out to discover other magnificent beaches of Mahé.
We stayed here on our second week in the Seychelles. Thr rooms are modern and very comfortable (we never turned the TV on!). The beach is lovely but the waves can be a little frisky. There are plenty of beds around the pool and along the front and the bar makes great coctails with the local rum. We hired a car with driver through the hotel for a day (shout out to Kenneth our driver) and it was well worth it. ending up at the Takamaka distillery for a tasting. The astmospehere is very relaxed with a little more buzz than the Praslin. Breakfast was amazing and dinner was interesting and eclectic. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. We went for massages at the spa which were excellent. my spine felt rejuvinated. Very nice hotel. And the cat is a star.
While on holiday in Seychelles, we were driving around the island and decided to stop for a drink at the bar at Carana Beach Hotel.
We were stopped at the gate by an Indian security guard who asked what we wanted. We explained that we would like to have a drink at the bar. He went away, returned shortly after, and said the bar was full and that we could not enter. When I asked why, no explanation was given. I then asked when the bar would not be full so we could come back, and he was unable to answer.
During the interaction, the security guard asked whether we were local. My driver is Seychellois, and it was clear that once we were perceived as local, the attitude changed. When I clarified that I was not local, the decision had already been made and access was still refused.
The experience felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It gave the strong impression that non guests, particularly locals or those assumed to be local, are discouraged from entering. If this hotel intends to be exclusive to in house guests only, this should be clearly stated rather than handled in this manner at the gate.
If you are not staying at this hotel, do not bother stopping for a drink or a meal. There are many other hotels in Seychelles that are far more welcoming and professional, such as Savoy or Story, where visitors are treated with courtesy and respect.
A very disappointing experience.
It was our first visit to the Seychelles and we picked the most fantastic location to stay. The Carana Beach Hotel was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The location is superb, as it is based on Carana Beach, which is a small but beautiful bay flanked by wonderful granite boulders and surrounded by lush gardens and greenery. The team at Carana are professional yet warm and friendly and it has a real family vibe. We were half board and the food was excellent - it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into the design of the menus and Head Chef Marcus is such a warm and friendly person, he went out of his way most days to check we were happy with everything and enjoying our stay. The whole team were attentive, warm and friendly - a shout out in particular to Mercia, Chelsea, Sandra, Danzil, Emelly and Thomas. Our room was well maintained each day - both day and night by Maria and her team. With every member of staff whenever we engaged with them (we didn't get everyone's name), they were always warm, friendly, and helpful. We stayed in a cabana with its own terrace with direct views over the sea - listening to the rolling waves was a real plus both morning and night. We would definitely return to this hotel and stay longer next time. We highly recommend the Carana Beach Hotel.
Magical honeymoon from start to finish It was amazing, soooooooo wonderful and unforgettable! The team beautifully decorated our villa, and we were given a villa with the most breathtaking, mesmerizing view over Carana Beach, a view we simply couldn’t stop staring at. Service was excellent throughout, and a special thank you to the lovely Adrianna. Her daily care, attention, and genuine to help and make everything unforgettable were absolutely flawless. She helped arrange our transfer to Victoria with a wonderful driver and organized our airport transfer as well. We were also incredibly grateful that the staff kindly extended our room free of charge due to a flight delay. The beach is stunning, the ocean view is incredible, the villa was beautiful and fully equipped, the food was good, the pool was gorgeous - everything was perfect and unforgettable. If we ever return to Mahé, Seychelles, we will only stay at Carana Beach again. Highly, highly recommended!
My wife and I stayed at the Carana Beach for our 45th wedding anniversary, it was everything and more of what we were looking for. The location was beautiful and the view from our pool villa was breath tacking. Having been to the Seychelles 40 years earlier the location felt more original than the built up areas of the island. The staff at the hotel, especially, Mercia, Vera, Adrianna, Jaquelin, Prince, Tabi and everyone who we met treated us as people not as guests and will be in our hearts forever. Our room was very comfortable and kept immaculate with everything we required (sorry I was watching the world cup and think the TV remote may need new batteries). The food was exquisite and the setting for our meals was lovely, what made it special was the staff for our anniversary and our last night gave us two wonderful surprises making the moment and us feel special. I particularly licked the fact that Maurice and Wallace (the chefs) came out and talked to the guests. Wallace, I hope your son did well at the sports event. One of the things my wife and I loved was the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, I'm sure this helped me to sleep! The overall atmosphere was exactly what my wife and I needed, totally relaxing with free flowing chat and perfect surroundings. Whilst not the most expensive hotel on Mahe my wife and I got everything we needed, more importantly we were treated with friendship and made to feel important. We loved our stay at the Carana, loved the staff and location miss them and would go again. Talk to the staff (sorry again I do tend to talk a lot), get to know them and your stay will be even more wonderful. Only down side, I can't get Seybrew or Slow Turtle in the UK. Love and miss you all, Elaine and Pete xx
