Our group of 50 stayed at The Canopy by Hilton Seychelles, spending over USD 100,000 during our visit. Unfortunately, despite the significant size and value of our group, our experience did not meet the standards we expected from a Hilton property.
Several members of our group had money stolen from their bags, and in one alarming case, even from a safe. These incidents are extremely serious, and the response we received was not adequate for a group of our size or for the gravity of the situation.
The events manager was exceptional professional, attentive, and consistently supportive. The reception and welcome team were also warm and accommodating, and we appreciated their efforts.
However, the service was inconsistent. The white F&B staff member who regularly walked around greeting guests and asking about their meals never approached our group even once. No “good morning,” no “good day,” no acknowledgment at all. On the rare occasions he needed to speak, he went straight to the point with no friendliness or courtesy. For a hotel of this caliber, this lack of hospitality was disappointing and made our group feel overlooked.
On a positive note, the food was good and tasty, and we enjoyed the quality of the meals. They had a Nigerian chef who is also very lovely and understand the Nigerian taste buds.
Overall, while a few staff members truly shined, the security issues and uneven service left us with an experience far below what a group spending over USD 100,000 should receive. We hope the hotel takes these concerns seriously and improves for future guests.
My money was stolen while staying at your resort ( canopy by Hilton ). My money was kept inside a purse, which was placed in a zipped and secured bag in my room. This was not something that could have simply gone missing. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled.
I reported the missing money twice, yet no proper investigation has been carried out. The hotel has not reviewed the relevant CCTV footage or provided any clear update on the steps being taken. I expect this matter to be treated seriously, with an immediate review of the security footage, an investigation into staff access to the room, and a formal response from management.
What makes this even more concerning is that hotel staff regularly entered our rooms without knocking properly or waiting for a response. We would often only hear someone’s voice when they were already inside the room. This is a serious breach of privacy and security.
The ambience, apartment, and food were all excellent, making for what should have been a great stay. Unfortunately, my experience was ruined by a serious security issue- my money was stolen during my stay. No matter how good the facilities are, guest safety and security should always come first. I hope management takes urgent steps to prevent this from happening to others.
I went with a group of about 80 for 7 days, this was a big mistake!
It was a very strange experience. Some hotel team members were absolutely pleasant (the buggy staff and Grace, the event manager, all the tour guides from Creole Travel Services); others were rude and dismissive with the others being full on racist specifically Bram, the food and beverage manager.
Some of my group had money stolen from them (about $500) as well as other items. Security made it seem like they spent it without remembering then insinuated their roommate stole it. Mind you, money was stolen from 3 different rooms during our stay. I was appalled at how security treated the possibility of having a thief on staff. If you must stay here, watch your valuables closely.
Housekeeping was also odd. Items were not replaced; sheets were not changed through the duration of our stay (7 days). They would knock once and barge into the room. The rooms were entered regardless of the DND sign being put on the door. The rooms were entered at least 2 times a day for no apparent reason but to "clean" which wasn't done properly.
The Avocet restaurant staff were also not as helpful to the black guests but were over friendly to the white ones. One of the only people that was pleasant at the restaurant was Chef Stanley and a few other servers. As mentioned above, Bram went out of his way to be rude and racist to the black guests and overly saccharine with the white guests (this is absolutely unacceptable and offensive for someone in hospitality).
Far too much money was spent for this horrible treatment and experience. Seychelles seems nice but the experience made me eager to leave a supposed paradise for the hustle and bustle of home.
What was supposed to be an exciting group trip for over 70 of my work colleagues turned into a deeply unsettling experience at Canopy by Hilton from June 28th to July 5th. The issues began at breakfast, led by the Food & Beverage Manager, Bram. His behavior toward our group was blatantly exclusionary and biased. While Bram happily walked around daily asking other guests about their dining experience, he intentionally ignored all 70+ members of our group and any other black guests in the room. We asked to sit together and was forced to pay extra for chairs at a breakfast we had already paid for. To make matters worse, if any of us tried to sit in the general seating area, we were rudely ordered to get up in the middle of our meal and move to the requested seats. The food itself was bland and extremely limited and the only light was a wonderful black chef who went out of his way to cook us meals that tasted like home e.g Jollof rice. The lack of safety at this hotel is appalling. Money and personal items were repeatedly stolen from my colleagues' rooms. Instead of helping, management blamed us for not using the room safes and treated the thefts as if they were none of their business and insinuated that our roommates stole it. After we reported these security breaches, the housekeeping staff became hostile. Groups of cleaners began knocking once and immediately barging into our rooms at all hours of the day just to drop off spa flyers—completely violating our privacy and breaking our peace. While the housekeepers smiled, their actual cleaning was incredibly lazy, and they refused to change our bedsheets. In all of this, the event manager Grace and the guys that drive the buggie (Jamie and the others) were wonderful. The tour guides from Creole travel services especially Galina were awesome. Canopy by Hilton severely failed our group. Between the targeted disrespect from management, rampant room thefts, and complete disregard for guest privacy, I strongly advise large groups especially Black travelers to avoid this hotel entirely.
