Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort

My wife Sue and I recently returned to Mauritius for a 16-day holiday, and having stayed at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort some ten years previously, so we knew exactly where we wanted to be. We have fond memories of our first visit, and once again, the Outrigger provided the calm, serenity and tropical setting we were looking for, while also being ideally located for exploring the island.

Having been offered a number of alternative resorts when looking to return to Mauritius, we are absolutely delighted that we chose to return to the Outrigger. We recalled that the resort itself has a draw dropping and dramatic setting, however, it is the people who work there who truly make it special. Their warmth, professionalism and genuine desire to ensure guests have the best possible experience are what set the Outrigger apart.

We would like to share our experience and, in particular, recognise some of the wonderful individuals who helped make our holiday so memorable but not detract from the whole team that make this resort such a superb location.

Booking, Transfers and Arriving in Paradise.

We booked our holiday through Mauritius Holidays rather than directly with the resort, and this proved to be another excellent experience. Our designated contact from M.H., Manny was first-class throughout and went out of his way to address our requirements and, I must say, some concerns regarding our travel arrangements through the UAE in light of the developing situation at the time. Thankfully, these concerns had no impact whatsoever on our journeys. I will be leaving a separate review for M.H, but would like to thank Manny for his support and reassurance.

Our transfer company, Coquille Bonheur, also deserves a special mention. From the moment we arrived, they took the stress out of our journeys to and from the resort and helped arrange a number of adventures for us. Our Mauritian contact, Yuvrin, was particularly helpful. I would highly recommend Coquille Bonheur for assistance with excursions, helicopter experiences, currency exchange, general local information and advice on what is happening around the island. Having a knowledgeable local contact made everything so much easier.

On arrival at the Outrigger, we received the same friendly and warm, professional welcome we remembered from our previous visit. It was wonderful to be back!

Our Suite and the Stunning Location.

When we initially booked, our room choices were limited due to demand and our rather limited duration in which to turn the holiday into reality given our limited time frame to visit the island, so we had already decided to explore the possibility of upgrading both our accommodation and our package to include the Plantation Club upon arrival and had conversed with the Outrigger on the options via email leading up to our arrival.

Arvesh, the Front Desk Manager, dealt with our request exceptionally well. He gave us his time, personally showed us an excellent selection of rooms and ensured that we were completely happy with our choice before arranging the Plantation Club upgrade. His professionalism and attention to detail were greatly appreciated. We settled into a first-floor Junior Suite, room 1119, overlooking the reef and the Indian Ocean. Situated towards the rear of the resort, the room provided a wonderful tropical backdrop, with the ocean stretching out in front of us and secluded sandy beaches in both directions. The suite was well equipped and comfortably met our needs. Although we would have appreciated an inventory of the minibar, this was not a significant issue as we had booked an all-inclusive package. Most alcoholic drinks, including a selection of imported wines, were included, and the minibar was primarily used for water, which was replenished daily.

There have been relatively few changes to the resort since our last visit. Its rustic charm and relaxed tropical atmosphere remain very much intact. That said, we feel that a thoughtful facelift in certain areas would enhance the property further and help it reach its full potential.

However, this did not detract from our enjoyment in any way. In fact, there is a part of us that would quite like to keep this little piece of paradise as our own secret getaway!

A special mention must go to Priya, our housekeeper. She was absolutely fantastic, taking great pride in ensuring our suite was beautifully maintained, with fresh towels, clean linen and thoughtful little touches. Her floral arrangements and towel sculptures were delightful, and her friendly manner made us feel genuinely looked after. Priya, thank you for everything you did for Sue and me.

The Beaches, Pool and Le Blue.

The location of the Outrigger speaks for itself. The ocean views, surrounding beaches and natural beauty of Bel Ombre make it a truly special place to stay. We made the most of the direct access to the beaches on both sides of the resort and were amazed by how quiet they became once we walked beyond the immediate hotel beach areas. We spent hours strolling along the coastline, encountering very few people and repeatedly stopping to admire the beauty of this part of Mauritius. The hotel's own beach is beautifully maintained and, together with the main swimming pool and Le Blue restaurant and bar, provides the perfect setting for relaxation.

Le Blue quickly became one of our favourite places to spend time, particularly in the early evening. There is something quite special about sitting with a cocktail in hand, choosing from an extensive drinks menu and watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean. It is an experience that should not be missed!

Visham and his team looked after us exceptionally well. Having met Visham on our previous visit some ten years earlier, it was a real pleasure to see him again and discover that he remembered our conversations and interactions from 2016. That personal connection meant a great deal to us.

His team were equally impressive. The bar staff were always on hand to replenish our drinks, offer the food menu and make sure we had everything we needed. The food menu, available daily from noon until 5 pm, is prepared in the open kitchen by the Le Blue chefs. We particularly enjoyed interacting with the team and thanking them for the consistently friendly, customer-focused service they provided.

Yaswanty also deserves a special mention for her helpfulness and attention to our needs. Le Blue is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy a drink, have something to eat and let the stresses of everyday life disappear.

Edgewater Restaurant – Excellent Food and Service.

Vic, who manages the Edgewater restaurant, and his colleagues deserve the highest praise.

We dined here on several occasions, enjoying both lunches and the evening à la carte menu. Every meal was a first-class experience, combining excellent service with delicious food, wonderful flavours and a varied choice of dishes. The team were attentive, professional and welcoming throughout, and we never felt anything was too much trouble.

Some menu items carry a supplement, but these were relatively modest compared with what we would expect to pay in the UK. We were more than happy to choose these dishes when something particularly appealed to us.

Edgewater consistently delivered on both food quality and service, and we would happily return time and time again.

The People Make the Outrigger.

One of the things that particularly impressed us during our stay was the positive attitude of the team members we encountered. In conversations with staff across different areas of the resort, we repeatedly heard positive comments about their colleagues and the way they were treated by their managers.

This was lovely to see and, in our view, speaks volumes about the culture within the resort. Happy, valued team members make a real difference to the guest experience, and this certainly came across during our stay.

One individual who deserves especially high praise is Muzammil.

His dedication, professionalism and genuine commitment to guest satisfaction were exceptional. We encountered him at breakfast, lunch and in the evenings, and on every occasion he approached us with the same friendly, open manner and willingness to help.

Muzammil is a real ambassador for the Outrigger brand. His ability to make guests feel welcome, anticipate their needs and ensure they are happy is something special. He clearly takes great pride in his work and is a credit to the resort. I have no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him, and I sincerely hope the management team recognise the qualities he brings. He has all the attributes one would look for in higher management positions and we felt for him would be an easy transition and a real asset and to the resort. Thank you, Muzammil, for helping make our stay so memorable.

The Plantation Club – The Icing on the Cake

For us, the Plantation Club upgrade was one of the highlights of the holiday and something we would strongly recommend considering when booking the Outrigger. The additional services and attention to detail elevate the experience further, providing a more exclusive and tranquil environment in which to relax and enjoy the resort. Dinson was fantastic, and nothing seemed too much trouble for him. Together with his team of Daminee, Yanish and Chinini, he helped ensure that we felt thoroughly looked after throughout our stay.

We would also like to thank the charming German manager, whose name we unfortunately never managed to establish, for the impeccable service he provided. The afternoon teas and daily cocktail hours were a real pleasure and are experiences that need to be enjoyed to be fully appreciated. The Plantation Club's setting is quite extraordinary. With its swimming pool, enormous banyan trees, lush tropical foliage and an abundance of birdlife, it offers a wonderfully peaceful sanctuary away from the everyday bustle.

As the sun began to set, we would often see an array of tropical birds, macaque monkeys and fruit bats moving through the surrounding trees. Combined with the architecture and atmosphere, the setting seemed to transport us back to the colonial sugar-estate era of Mauritius. It is a beautiful and distinctive part of the resort, and one that added something truly special to our holiday.

V47 – A Real Culinary Highlight

The V47 restaurant deserves a review of its own for the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. The standard of the dishes we enjoyed was outstanding, with flavours, presentation and attention to detail that, in our opinion, would not be out of place in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Sue is a real seafood enthusiast, and she was absolutely delighted with the quality and creativity of the dishes on offer. Her particular favourite was the daily catch, which she enjoyed on three occasions. The accompanying piña colada sauce was a revelation and, in her words, a real wow! For anyone who enjoys seafood, this is an absolute must. The combination of excellent ingredients, imaginative flavours and attentive service made dining at V47 a genuine highlight of our stay and all prepared by the amazing in-house chefs that are key to the whole restaurant experience at V47.

Mercado – Something for Everyone

Plantation Club guests have the option of enjoying a personally served breakfast, which we found exceptional. Alternatively, Mercado offers another excellent breakfast experience, as well as lunch and evening dining. The restaurant's design takes inspiration from the island's historic sugar factories, with high, rounded ceilings creating an impressive setting.

The buffet offers a broad selection of European, Asian, Mediterranean and Indian dishes, alongside some fantastic Mauritian cuisine. The variety and overall standard of the food were excellent, with plenty of choice to cater for different tastes. We mainly used Mercado for breakfast and particularly enjoyed our daily interactions with Vasna, our omelette chef.

Vasna greeted us every morning with her wonderful Mauritian smile and a genuine enthusiasm for preparing something delicious. She introduced us to different combinations and flavours, transforming what might appear to be a simple omelette into something quite special. We genuinely missed her on her day off! That says a great deal about the personal connections that develop when the team go beyond simply doing their jobs. Vasna, our sincere thanks for your friendliness, your culinary creativity and the lovely start you gave us each morning.

A Resort To Be Re-visited (again and again)

There are many things to love about the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort: its beautiful location, the Indian Ocean views, the beaches, the food, the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunities to explore this wonderful island. But above all, it is the people who make the difference.

We would love to name every team member who contributed to our stay, from the colleagues who maintain the gardens and tropical foliage, to the window cleaners, entertainment teams, front-gate security, concierge staff and the ladies and gentlemen at reception.

Every interaction helped reinforce the impression that we were staying somewhere where people genuinely care about their guests and take pride in what they do. The resort is a real credit to everyone involved in its day-to-day operation. It is that collective effort, supported by the individual kindness and professionalism of so many team members that makes the Outrigger such a successful destination. Having researched other resorts before making our return visit, we felt confident that our previous experience and the many positive reports we had heard would lead us to the right choice.

We have already earmarked three weeks in 2027 for a return visit, and we are counting the days until we can set sail for Mauritius once again and reunite with the wonderful team at the Outrigger.

The resort's spectacular setting is undoubtedly a major attraction, but it is the people who bring it to life. Their warmth, dedication and genuine hospitality transformed our holiday into an experience that we will remember and talk about for many years to come.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Outrigger Beach Resort Mauritius. This was our second visit to the hotel and we will return. Our suite was stunning, with phenomenal views, and only a few metres from the beach. A special thanks to:

1. Arvesh, and his team who organised various excursions and made sure that all our needs were taken care of with excellent and friendly service.
2. Dinson and his incredible team at the Voyager 47 Club, who treated us like royalty and ensured a phenomenal experience. The cocktails and food were exceptional and the signature V47 Night Fever cocktail addictive.
3. Vic and his team at Edgewater. The location is just off the beach with lovely views, the food and service were awesome, and the prawn platter exceptional.
4. Shafi at Rouben's wine bar and tapas. The food, wine, and service were phenomenal.
5. The Housekeeper who ensured that our room was spotless and that we did not want for anything.
6. The Team at Navasana Spa, where we enjoyed two relaxing massages.

Outrigger Mauritius is a fantastic place to relax and unwind. It provides an ideal base to explore the South side of the island. We look forward to our next visit.
