People like you are what make a place truly special. Mauritius is beautiful, but having someone like you behind the bar made it even more amazing.

Recommended to us by our travel agent who had visited, this was a wonderful holiday. From Gatwick to Mauritius with Air Mauritius took us about 11.5 hrs overnight. Good airline and seats, entertainment and food good. Beachcomber Tours were waiting for us at the Mauritius airport end and took us to our private taxi transfer to Canonnier Beachcomber Hotel. Transfer time about 1hr 15mins. The vibe of the hotel is relaxed and chilled out, yet efficient. Having just returned home to UK yesterday, my wife and I were a bit surprised by the number of children at the hotel, as we thought our early October stay would have been during school term time. Very many of the hotel guests are French, apparently because Mauritians are fluent in French as well as English. The pool area is beautiful, however we found the beach, on our doorstep, a bit more peaceful. All Mauritian beaches are public beaches, not private, so anyone could come along, although we rarely saw non hotel members on "our beach". Beach traders selling hats and wraps hover, but are very friendly, and will leave you alone if you want. Our beautiful room overlooked the sea, was spacious and clean, with a lovely shower. We were on an AI basis so any food and drink etc. were included. The buffet restaurant was really good, with a wonderful selection at all meal times. A special mention must go to the pizzas being made in a real fire pizza oven continuously throughout lunch and dinner times. The 2 à la carte restaurants were also a treat, especially lunch at the Navigator restaurant, sitting under a palm tree looking over the bay.... All staff were very attentive, friendly, polite and professional at all times, whether in the bar, restaurant, around the pool or generally on the grounds. The grounds were very well kept with staff raking away leaves in the early morning and staff keeping the gardens and pool areas spotless. The gym was small and busy, however had just about enough equipment to allow a respectable workout. We used the free kayaks, glass bottom boat trip and pedalo a few times. Unfortunately much of the reef appears dead, so the glass bottom boat trip and snorkelling near the shore is underwhelming, especially if you compare to somewhere like the Maldives. We did see a couple of turtles and a few fish, though not a lot of colour. After checkout we had use of the shower room and all AI facilities until our pick-up time of 17:30. We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful hotel. We would happily go back to Mauritius and Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa. We would recommend it to anyone.
