Bucket list experiences at the Maritim 💫

We absolutely loved our stay at the Maritim Resort and Spa. It was our first time in Mauritius and we booked this hotel because of its location and the activities on offer.

We absolutely loved the water sports. There are so many activities to try, we particularly loved the paddle boarding. All the Boat House staff were very friendly and professional. We particularly loved Lin, who took us out on a dolphin tour that was so special, it was a trip we will never forget 💫 Lin was really fun, and friendly, and he put so much effort into making our holiday feel special. Thank you Lin 🙏

We also loved the Animal Park with the giant tortoises and horses. Yoan gave us a guided tour of the park and let us feed the tortoises and meet the animals. It is clear how much he cares for all the animals there. Yoan also took me on a sea swim with the horses. This was another magical experience that I will never forget. Thank you Yoan 🙏

The hotel itself is lovely. The rooms are clean and spacious. The hotel grounds are calm and peaceful. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We stayed on a half board basis. The food was ok, we especially loved the curries and the beach BBQ. The only thing we would change… we didn’t mind paying for our drinks but felt that water should have been included at dinner. Other than that it’s been an amazing trip!

Awesome from start to finish

To cut to the chase immediately, I have to say from the off that my experience of The Maritim, based on a 10 night stay, is absolutely top class. From the reception to the buffet restaurant, to the facilities, breakfast on the beach, a romantic dinner in the jetty, the bar, the helpfulness of the staff...I could go on and on. When we arrived we were in a foul mood, our cases having not arrived with us. But the reception team, and customer services, could not have been more compassionate and sympathetic (which put KLM staff to shame) and nothing was too much trouble. It was that, and their reassurance, which calmed us down. They organised a taxi to take to a local supermarket to buy provisions, and the driver also took us to an outlet store for some clothes (forgetting to point out how expensive it was, but we were desperate and had no choice - that taxi cost us £45 by the way, taxis don’t come cheap!!). Anyway, back at the hotel, the staff were brilliant, checking up in the progress of our luggage, and even sharing our delight when my wife’s case turned up 36 hours later, and mine another 24 hours after that. So reception excellent. As was the Belle View restaurant for all inclusive. The food was fantastic, morning, noon and evening; it was varied daily, great choices, and the staff very pleasant. I’ve seen reviewers moan about the Belle View and I can only assume they must be extremely hard to please. The Belle View was so good we didn’t need to try any of the other eating options, though a couple we met told us how good the BBQ was, while another couple treated themselves to a dining experience in the Chateaux and said it was expensive, but worth every penny. Talking of which, it was my wife’s 60th birthday during our stay, and I treated her to a romantic dinner on the jetty. What an amazing experience, made even more special by the wonderful Guru, our fantastic waiter, and the amazingly awesome food from La Maree, which is a meal we’ll never forget. A truly memorable experience, and captured on film by the hotel photographer, who took some fantastic photos (we paid extra for that, but well worth it). We also treated ourselves to a spa experience: fantastic. I had the back massage, then my wife and me had the couples experience: a fantastic two hours of indulgence. I loved relaxing by the pool. But here are my only two criticisms of this wonderful hotel: 1) there was a group stopping during our stay that had little respect for other guests, and turned one afternoon into a nightmare. I suspect we were just unlucky, and such guests are few and far between. But management could have been quicker to spot the problem and nip it in the bud. The group, I was told, caused problems from the moment they arrived, and frankly if they couldn’t be bothered to behave and respect other guests, they should have been asked to leave post haste. 2) on a few occasions a poolside waiter took an order, but never returned. In the end I simply ordered from the bar myself, but needed to point this out. Before the holiday I read a variety of reviews, and some of the complaints have totally perplexed me. Trust me, this is a fantastic hotel, the staff are awesome, facilities top class, food gorgeous, and despite the frustrations of our first 3 days without all or much of our luggage, everyone at The Maritim fell over themselves to make our holiday special, and for that I will be forever grateful. Five very well deserved stars. I recommend to all!

Amazing Hotel

We have been staying at this hotel for years, and every visit is as wonderful as the last. The staff always make us feel genuinely welcome, and their kindness and professionalism are truly exceptional.

The hotel is perfectly nestled in nature, creating a peaceful, warm and inviting atmosphere. The attention to details is evident in every aspect of the experience. The food is excellent, the facilities are well cared for, and the service consistently exceeds our expectations.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff members Kavita, Jay, Deaven, Rakesh and Jessica who have made our holidays truly unforgettable for the past 13 years.

Luxury Price, Terrible Service

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves one.

After paying over $10,000 for my stay, I expected the level of service that a luxury five-star resort promises. Instead, this has been one of the worst hotel experiences of my life.

I ordered a bottle of water, and even after more than three hours, it was never delivered. During those same three hours, I repeatedly called Room Service, and not a single call was answered. It is unbelievable that a luxury resort cannot respond to such a basic request.

What made the experience even worse was the staff’s attitude. The service was slow, unprofessional, and completely lacking in hospitality. Guests should never have to chase staff for basic amenities or be ignored when they need assistance.

There is a huge gap between the image this resort promotes and the actual experience it delivers. Paying a premium price should come with premium service—not unanswered calls, ignored requests, and indifferent staff.

I cannot recommend this resort based on my experience. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and makes significant improvements because the current level of service is simply unacceptable.

A Place That Truly Feels Like Home

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you and your entire team for another unforgettable stay at Maritime Balaclava. We checked in on 13 June 2026 and checked out on 14 June 2026, and this was already our fourth or fifth visit to your beautiful resort. Every time we return, it truly feels like coming home.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and heartfelt hospitality. A special thank you to Kishen, who handled our check-in with professionalism, kindness, and a welcoming smile, making us feel valued from the very beginning.

At La Mare Bar, Dinesh once again impressed us with his excellent bartending skills, professionalism, and friendly personality. Every drink was prepared with care, and his passion for hospitality was evident in every interaction.

A very special mention goes to Rakesh, who has become one of the main reasons we keep returning to Maritime Balaclava. Since our very first stay, he has consistently provided outstanding service that goes far beyond expectations. His kindness, attention to detail, and sincere care for guests make us feel like family rather than visitors. Hospitality is not simply a job for him,it is part of who he is. We sincerely hope that on our next visit we will have even more opportunities to enjoy his exceptional service.

During dinner at La Mare, Vidya and Varsha looked after us beautifully. They were warm, attentive, caring, and always served us with genuine smiles. Their professionalism and natural hospitality made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

One of the most touching moments of our stay came from Dini. As soon as we entered the hotel, she recognized us immediately and warmly said, "Ahhh... Bienvenue à la maison !" Those few words meant so much to us. That is the definition of personalized service. It wasn't rehearsed, it came straight from the heart. Dini has true hospitality running through her veins, and moments like these are exactly what transform a great hotel into an unforgettable one.

We would also like to recognize John from the bar. He is always one step ahead, constantly checking that everything is perfect, ensuring we have everything we need, and delivering service with genuine enthusiasm and care. His consistency and attention to guests never go unnoticed.

A thank you also goes to Azagen, who kindly took the time to check on us and introduced us to one of his signature cocktails. It was a pleasure chatting with him and experiencing his creativity.

It was also wonderful meeting Meg "The Magic Man." Beyond his impressive magic skills, it was fascinating to learn more about his journey within the hotel.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank Cherina. Although it was unfortunately too late to arrange the room change we had requested, she immediately looked for another solution and generously offered us a late check-out instead. This thoughtful gesture allowed us to enjoy a few more relaxing hours in the resort and truly reflected her commitment to guest satisfaction.

As professionals in the hospitality industry ourselves, we would also like to share two observations that we hope will be received in the positive spirit in which they are intended.

Firstly, while enjoying drinks at La Mare Bar, we witnessed Mr. Kumar (Food & Beverage Manager) addressing one of the bartenders in a manner that appeared quite harsh and in full view of guests. We fully understand that operational discussions and coaching are part of daily management. However, whenever possible, such conversations are best conducted discreetly and privately, with respect and encouragement. Guests may not always remember every facility a hotel offers, but they will always remember how the people made them feel. Your staff are your greatest ambassadors, and creating a positive atmosphere for both employees and guests makes all the difference.

Secondly, we would like to mention the food quality of two local snacks featured on the main bar menu: the Gâteau Arouille and Gâteau Piment. As Mauritians, we were looking forward to enjoying these traditional favourites, but unfortunately they did not meet the standard we would expect from a five-star resort. The Gâteau Arouille was dry and lacked flavour, while the Gâteau Piment also seemed under-seasoned and missing the richness of authentic Mauritian recipes. With a few adjustments to the seasoning and ingredients, we believe these dishes could become excellent representations of our local cuisine.

Overall, our stay was exceptional, and it is because of your incredible team. Luxury hotels are beautiful, but it is the people who create unforgettable memories. Every smile, every warm greeting, every thoughtful gesture, and every personal interaction made us feel genuinely cared for.

Please extend our sincere appreciation to every member of your team. They are a true credit to Maritime Balaclava.

Thank you once again for making every moment matter. We are already looking forward to returning and creating even more wonderful memories with all of you.

With our warmest appreciation,

Ansuya & Beneeta
