Le Peninsula Bay Beach Resort and Spa

Stayed here in November after my Jamaica trip got cancelled due to the hurricane. On arrival to the hotel, I was totally and utterly disappointed. After over a 12-hour overnight flight I was expecting to be able to relax in my room on arrival, we arrived at the hotel at 09:00am local time and we were told by the hotel manager that we could not check in til 3pm and to leave our suitcases in reception. We were also told that our all-inclusive package would not start until check in either. This meant we had nowhere to wash/shower, no drinks, nowhere to sit after a long flight, it was extremely uncomfortable. We ended up sitting on the beach in our travel clothes, dehydrated and getting sunburned. We even had to ask for some water. The reason I had chosen that flight was so that we could arrive nice and early that day and start our holiday, this was clearly not the case. We felt like peasants waiting for 6 hours in our uk travel gear until we could even have a drink and relax. We eventually could check in at 3pm and that’s where we were met with the room. Prior to booking this I had requested a; high balcony, quiet room, and mentioned it was our anniversary on the TUI holiday booking website. So, I was very disappointed to find our room was: a ground floor room, opposite the loud bar/pool areas, no mention of anniversary when entering the room. Again, I didn't expect every request to be accommodated but at least one of them should have been handed over by tui and fulfilled. I then had a look around the room and discovered. The lock on the room dod not work and came apart on locking it, meaning that anyone could walk in at any point. Mouldy/dirty curtains, a stained mattress, Rusty taps and toilet flush, mould on bathroom walls, a leak on the bathroom ceiling from which I expect was the room aboves bathroom, rust on shower cubicle, mould inside shower cubicle. A bathroom sink that stunk and gurgled constantly no matter what time of day. An aircon unit that leaked water when you had it on the lowest setting Plug sockets: I'd emailed in advance to check what plugs they use in Mauritius and was told they use British standard plugs. There was ONE in the main room based inside a cupboard we needed for clothes/items. And one European socket which we obviously didn't have a converter for. There were two in the bathroom. There was also a table with a kettle on but no plug socket near the kettle on a table so in reality the kettle could not be used unless we a. Boiled it inside a cupboard? Or b. Boiled it in a bathroom? we had one socket for the bedroom. I had to charge my phone/electrical items next to a sink which was obviously unsafe.

On the first night we were overwhelmed with how many planes flew over this hotel, it was quite literally right next to the airport flight path so every plant that took off sounded like a bomb exploding every hour or so.

The amount of fly's I saw around/on the food in the buffet area in the restaurant was abysmal. We noticed that if you came to eat later on in the lunch or dinner service that flies were over everything at that point so we always opted to eat early to eliminate this. But when you're on holiday it's nice to eat at your own leisure and not worry that the restaurant is going to be fly-ridden if you don't eat by a certain time. There were also so many birds in the restaurant eating the cakes/bread, they were even on the bread board (used by hotel guests to cut bread) eating the crumbs.

I spent quite a lot of money on this holiday and expected a level of comfort and happiness. Neither which were had, I couldn’t wait to fly home to be honest. Book only if you don’t mind roughing it.

Excellent in all aspects. I really liked it and will book again without hesitation.
