- Dreamland Maldives The Unique Sea and Lake Resort Spa

This extraordinary and lovely island has an elliptical shape with a wonderful white sandy beach and rich vegetation in Baa- Atoll. The amusing vegetation seen on this island cannot be found in any other resort in the Maldives.
However, the most outstanding and unique feature of this island, besides the fantastic white sandy beach, is a large freshwater lake that is built as a biotope in the middle of the island. In this unique lake is a lot of water lilies and aquatic plants, there is also a swimming area without chlorine where you can relax with a calming swim.
One of the best natural attractions is the attractive Hanifaru in Baa Atoll which is an uninhabited island with a natural underwater bay. The bay is home to many whale sharks, grey sharks, manta rays, and a nursery for these species.
The modern air-conditioned beach bungalows each have direct beach access to the soft sandy shores. All rooms are equipped with a range of facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. Facilities include satellite TV, bathtub with hand shower, mini-fridge, hairdryer, telephone, tea/coffee facilities, 1 free bottle of water daily, and free toiletries. Beach bungalows also feature their own sunbeds. A room upgrade to a water bungalow is available at a supplement.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We stayed at Dreamland Maldives for 14 days in July 2025 and chose it specifically for peace, natural beauty, and to celebrate our wedding. While the setting is stunning, several aspects — especially the wedding planning and customer service — left us extremely disappointed.
The Good: • The reef outside our water villa was incredible for snorkeling. It felt like swimming in a giant aquarium. We saw all kinds of fish, even baby sharks. • The villa itself was spacious and private, though in need of maintenance (paintwork, exterior). • We loved the peaceful, adults-oriented vibe — no loud music, no kids clubs — just the sound of waves and chill-out music/a singer and some 80s music all to our taste. • Buffet meals had good variety, and the island is casual, so no dress codes or shoes needed. • All of the staff (with the exception of management/reception) were hardworking and friendly despite being clearly overstretched.
The Not-So-Good: • Sun loungers for water villa guests were scarce — around 12 loungers for 30+ villas. Most are claimed early with towels, leaving many guests without a proper spot to relax. • Excursions are expensive and often cancelled last-minute. The boutique shop is overpriced ($100 for a lilo!) and even a short boat trip to a nearby island cost $40 (not worth the money unless you just want to get off the island)! • We had to visit the medical clinic, which provided great care — one of the few highlights.
The Wedding – A Major Letdown: Our wedding experience was poorly handled. There was no wedding coordinator, no spa treatment arranged (as promised), and key details were missed. The ceremony itself was special although they used a generic script mentioning children — laughable, considering we’re nearly 60. During the romantic dinner, we had to use phone lights to see our food due to only 2 candles being blown out by the wind. Why they don’t use some battery operated lights is bizarre!
Most upsetting was the missing wedding cake. We were told our cake was being sent to us but later found out it was given away to staff. We said to give some to staff but all of it – really!!! Management offered a different cake — not a proper replacement. The whole situation was handled with zero empathy and left us angry and heartbroken. Reception & Management – Disappointing: From the start, reception was disorganized and unhelpful. The final issue was a forged signature — we were told we owed $100 for a transfer we’d already paid for. Management presented a fake signature from my husband. Our travel agent confirmed we owed nothing, but management refused to acknowledge their mistake properly.
We received a bottle of wine and a "Happy Holiday" message in our room we can only assume as a possible apology as we received no verbal apology — a gesture that felt empty given the stress and disappointment we experienced.
Final Verdict: If your stay goes smoothly, you may enjoy the island’s tranquility and beautiful snorkeling. But if anything goes wrong, be prepared for poor communication and zero accountability from management. This place operates more like a business transaction than a guest-centered resort.
For us, what should’ve been a joyful wedding and relaxing holiday turned into an exhausting, stressful experience.
We would not return and do not recommend Dreamland for weddings or special occasions if you want a stress-free time.
An amazing beautiful and relaxing island. Food was gorgeous with very modern clean rooms. This was our second visit to Dreamland and it did not disappoint. My tip would be don't forget your mosquito spray as it has a lake on the island.
Spent 7 nights at Dreamland in November 2025 and loved it. Beautiful little island where 95% of the guests were German-speaking. The staff were great and Zaayn in the restaurant deserves special mention, as does the guy working at the water villas bar. Food was great with around 10-12 tasty home-cooked meals to choose from, presented by energetic and smiling chefs.
Joy Dive team can be a bit blunt to non-Germans but really can't praise the Dreamland staff highly enough, always smiling and working hard, taking time to talk to you. They all clearly enjoy their work.
Lagoon is stunning with plenty fish, a few baby sharks, etc. perfect for snorkelling. The Manta Ray trip to Hanifaru was spectacular to say the least - highly recommend!
Water villas great but the walkway doesn't have any barriers, so can be a bit daunting to walk along as it's about 10 feet drop into the sea. Never used the pool once as the sea was so clear and warm.
You get dropped off at a jetty (a few planks of wood stuck together in the middle of the sea) by the seaplane, and the speedboat takes you to the resort. Although this cuts down a fair amount of noise, there are still lots of planes and the speedboat goes back and forward around 15 times per day to the jetty to pick up / drop off guests.
Cocktails are OK and wine was fine for our tastes, with neither of us being big drinkers.
One German guys was vaping openly in the bar which isn't permitted by law but it wasn't being enforced.
Lots of interesting plants and wildlife with the fruit bat, birds, lizards, etc. Never seen any mosquitoes / bites, nor any fumigating which was mentioned in other reviews.
Would go back tomorrow if I could as miss it already.
We spent 6 nights on the island, and it was impossible to be bored. Everything was perfectly organized, clean. Vey helpful staff, wide selection of food for meals. If you're looking for privacy, you've got it. If you want to be active, you can snorkel around the island or take an organized trip, such as adventure snorkeling. You simply swim "in the aquarium" every day. If you want to try diving, we recommend the Joy Dive Center. We learned a lot from Nick, and my husband and son earned their Scuba Diver certification. To sum up - we spent wonderful and unforgettable moments.
I believe that all future customers should be made aware of the appalling risks that are needed to be taken just to get onto the island!!!!! We had a fantastic flight with Virgin and then had to board an aged seaplane to get to the island, which I initially thought could be exciting The weather and sea conditions were poor with a 4 to 6 foot swell. The flight it self was uneventful, until the landing. We had to transfer/jump from the sea planes float onto a floating pontoon, approx. 5 by 6 metres square, which was several hundred metres from the landing point on the island. A boat was then sent from the island to collect us from the pontoon (in the meantime, we 4 of us, were stranded with our luggage on the pontoon). We then had to transfer from the pontoon to the boat still with the relentless rise and fall on the seas and was finally brought to the island. There was no safety equipment offered or appeared to be available......I hate to think what they did with young children Not clever! I am 72 years old and was a previous boat owner and use to various sea a conditions.....but this was something different and dangerous and soured the holiday. Cleanliness..... 9 Food.................8 Staff..................10 Atmosphere....7 Rooms..............10 Value................7.5
