The hotel Royal Asarlik Beach in Bodrum was quite alright. Not five star but the staff were very friendly and location fantastic. Young waitress Asrini at dinner made the experience particularly memorable with her beautiful smile and attentiveness. They initially gave us a very old room which was substandard and we had to complain. They did change it to something better which was positive.
DO NOT TRAVEL HERE AS A FEMALE SOLO TRAVELLER. I get a solo traveller we get the rubbish rooms, that I can stomach just about, my room had a view of a tree! my shower was so clogged up with limescale it barely worked, the water damage to the door frame looked absolutely disgusting. they did replace the shower head once I complained but the cleaner had missed loads in the bathroom, hairs on the floor, rubbish is drawers and on floor and less than half a toilet roll.
Then at 11.50PM!!! I get a knock on the door from technical services. I didn't answer the door, so then reception called the room to advise they were there, I told them to tell them it's late and I was in bed!! As a female solo traveller, I expect better! I don't expect a man to be knocking on my door at that time of night. And to top it off the 'double lock' on my door doesn't work. They're looking at moving my room, but that won't happen for at least a day or so. This is my 6th solo trip and I have never felt so unsafe.
We stayed for 1 week as a last miniute booking. Check in wasn't particularly good or quick and because our flight had been delayed it was 1am in the morning. There was one porter taking guests one at time to their room so we decided to make our own way. On the plus side there is a 24 hour bar where we could get a sandwich and a cold drink which was much needed. The room was small and cramped with a very small balcony. On first impressions it looked tired and dated. The bath towels were tatty and had seen better days. We were on the 5th floor so very convenient for the main restaurant. All the public areas within the hotel are clean and modern. The pool areas are excellent with plenty of sun loungers. The food in the main restaurant was good but it was very repetitive and it would have been nice for it to be a little more varied. The egg station at breakfast was painfully slow and I took to just having coffee at the pool. The staff are very friendly and service in the bars and restaurants is very good. Room service is a real let down. The bathroom wasn't cleaned at any point during our stay. The bins were emptied and the duvet straightened on the bed but no dirty glasses were ever removed. The air-conditioning stopped working on our last night and it wasn't worth reporting as it was late in the evening so we slept with the balcony doors open all night. I couldn't sleep because of the heat and my husband couldn't sleep because of the sound of the late night entertainment. We couldn't normally hear it when the door was shut. The lift nearest our room was constantly out of order. All in all it was a very relaxing holiday but I wouldn't return.
More positives than negatives
Great chilled place .staff couldn't do enough for you. Rooms a bit dated only issue.
