1/5 Stars – Massive Disappointment: Misleading All-Inclusive, Shocking Hygiene, and Poor Service
Our stay at Eftalia Ocean was deeply disappointing on almost every level, and the resort falls far short of what is advertised.
Misleading "All-Inclusive" Board
The hotel's description claims all bars and restaurants are included, but this is simply not true. Cocktails and fresh orange juice incur extra charges. Right beside the main pool area, there are large food stalls that are also not included. The standard basic alcohol provided in the standard package was virtually undrinkable and left me feeling unwell and stomach cramps. Even the basic hot and cold beverages were poor—the coffee was unpalatably bitter, and the soft drinks were overly sweet and syrupy.
Pools & Waterpark Facilities
The waterpark was a primary reason for our booking, yet the staff repeatedly shut off the water to the slides for hours at a time during the day, leaving the children unable to use them. When we asked if there was a technical issue, a lifeguard admitted they turned off the water so the entire staff could take their break together at the same time.
Subpar Hygiene & Housekeeping
The room cleaning was minimal at best. While sheets and towels were replaced, the floors were never mopped, and surfaces were never wiped down. The sofa in our room was visibly filthy—when I attempted to wipe it down myself, the towel turned completely black with grime. Furthermore, the bedding provided consisted of rough, scratchy, hospital-grade blankets that offered zero comfort.
Disruptive Room Location
We were placed on the first floor directly above the main industrial bin area. The smell was unbearable, and every 4 to 5 hours—day and night—staff dumped heavy sacks of glass bottles into the bins. The constant, loud crashing kept us awake throughout the night, leaving us completely exhausted for the duration of the trip.
Entertainment & Hotel Staff
Evening entertainment was disorganized and incredibly amateurish. Guests had to fight for basic seating every night just to watch. To make matters worse, hotel staff were constantly pestering us by the pool and along the walkways. If you did not tip them, their attitude turned noticeably rude and hostile.
Beach & Surrounding Area
The hotel beach was poorly maintained, litter-strewn, and unpleasant to spend time on.
Excursion & Rep Experience
Our experience with the Loveholidays rep was alarming. He organized a meal with a promised "free taxi," claiming the destination restaurant featured a Michael Jackson tribute act for the children. Instead, we were taken to a shopping center and told we had to spend money in the shops before we could go to the restaurant. After a stressful argument in an unfamiliar place, we finally reached the restaurant only to find no entertainment whatsoever, no performance, and overpriced, poor-quality food. The driver and staff repeatedly demanded tips despite the "free" pitch. It was an intimidating experience that completely broke our trust in the rep.
Verdict
Between the unhygienic conditions, misleading amenities, sleep disruption, and pushy staff, we would never return to Eftalia Ocean nor recommend it to anyone.
We have had a lovely trip overall, the facilities in the resort as well as on the island are good. The rooms are comfortable with a lot of effort put in from the cleaners, and there is plenty of sunbeds for the most part, unless you’re getting to the pool very late. The food itself we found basic but enjoyable, however myself and my partner both now have food poisoning and are bed bound. We have hardly ate outside of the hotel so we can only put it down to the food there. The dining rooms are far too overcrowded, clean cutlery is rarely available and the lack of hygiene from other guests was awful. I saw children dipping their fingers in food then licking them and I saw adults using their bare hands to touch food. If the timings for lunch and dinner were extended I’m sure many of these points could be avoided. I stayed at this hotel two years ago and was worried about the reviews regarding food poisoning, but myself and my family were fine. I can only assume we were lucky the first time. Despite the resort being decent itself, I would recommend not staying here, we are both unable to eat and struggling to keep water down.
This is the second Eftalia hotel we have stayed in, we previously stayed at Eftalia Aqua which is across the road.
The Eftalia Ocean did seem more modern in terms of the decor however parts were starting to look shabby, we were of floor 4 the carpets were badly stained and worn as was the wood work in the communal areas,
We stayed in a standard room, me, my husband and our two children for 14 nights, the beds were very uncomfortable with one being a pull out chair bed.
The rooms were modernly decorated and of a good size.
There is only one Buffett restaurant which is often over crowded, getting a table at any time was difficult and the hunt for cutlery was a daily experience, you can use the food court on Eftalia island for lunch 12-4 which has a good choice of food,
Between 12 and 2pm each day the slides and splash pool close, they then close at 5pm for the day which isn't great. 10 days out of 14 the water park was closed due to children dedicating in the water. This isn't the hotels fault and the lifeguards do offer swim nappies round.
The main issue was the rudeness of guests and staff, most of the staff, not all but most were rude especially in the dining room when they re clearing up and coming at you with trollies used to collect plates, numerous time I would dodge out of the way without a thank you or even acknowledgement that I had made way for them to pass, the guests were even ruder we heard numerous arguments between guest, the doors are heavy and people would return from the nigh club in the early hours and let the doors slam behind them which woke everyone in the room up.
After the first week we decided to ask for an upgraded room, I went to reception and was told that for the remaining 7 days this would be €200 I went back to the room to get my card to pay and upon returning to reception the price had changed to €100 a night,
I tried again the next day and was told it would be €400 there was no consistency in the price to upgrade
The hotel is good but you get what you pay for unfortunately and this hotel did seem to attract people who's sole aim was to get as drunk as possible and then fight each other
Transfers:- We used jet2 express transfer and on the way to the hotel it took 1 hours 40 minutes with just one drop off. On the way back to the airport it took 2 hours with a 15 minutes stop off.
Reception Area Upon arrival not a great welcoming. Staff so arrogant due to the fact he wanted to move us to another hotel when I refused asked if I wanted an upgrade for extra costs. Not welcoming in the slightest. Just trying to make money out of you as soon as you step through the door. No information was given about the hotel. The guy who took our luggage to our room told us more. When leaving and handing in the keys no word of did you have a nice stay no nothing.
Rooms We had a standard family room with three adults and one child and it was plenty big enough. The rooms were cleaned daily along with clean towels and our fridge constantly topped up with water fanta and cola. The only problem with the rooms are the doors slamming shut and the walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors.
Restaurant area We found the food ok just not overall warm. Something for everyone even it does get repetitive. The nightmare is on an evening when the tables werent cleaned quick enough for the number of people and searching for cutlery. Also children just running around picking at food and parents letting them pile their plates and then leave it. Disgusting and such a waste. Some adults and children were rude in not waiting the turn I just told them join the queue like everyone else.
Pool area We never had trouble finding sunbeds but we are early risers. The floors are very slippery cannot believe how many children we saw with pots of thir arms and legs due to slipping on the floor. The main pool is overcrowded and has a very strangle sewerage and sickness smell. It doesn't help when the baby pool shuts which happened on a few occasions due to 💩in the water. Also constantly asking by workers tattoos cocktails massage everything seems to be an up sell
Island Again overcrowded and it is all payout apart from the pool bar and found the food court which is nicer food than the main restaurant. The beach is very rocky and not overall clean. The slides are good
Entertainment This was a massive let down at the hotel especially in the area it was in too many people not enough space
Overall had a great holiday but will not be back due to the size of the hotel and it shouldn't be advertised as a four star as not everything is included. This is a very budget hotel
Just got back. My grandson absolutely loved it there. It's not like any other all inclusive ive been to,i would call it a budget all inclusive. You will drink a lot of water here.It is such a vast area that it is a mission to get to any of the bars. Unless you get up early enough to get near one of the bars. We all enjoyed the food. Service in the restaurant would be great.Providing.There was a tip. I tried a sip of the white wine it was disgusting. Lemonide cola were fine. My room was not cleaned properly for the entire week. The maid had a cheek to knock on my door looking for a tip. Ask me how good the cleaning was. And I couldn't help but say what cleaning. You haven't done any. During my week. I did leave a tip twice in the room.Hoping that at least the sink would be cleaned. But all she seemed to think she got money for was doing the sculptures on the bed. As long as you go here in the frame of mind that it's a 2/3 hotel , you'll have a fantastic time but it's not like any four star hotel that I have been .
