- New Garden Hotel Side
This comfortable property is located in Side. Situated within 2. 5 kilometre(s) from the town centre, the hotel is easily accessible on foot to a host of places of interest. The establishment is just a short walk from the main entertainment areas. Public transport connections are at 500 MT (s) away. The nearest beach is within 650 metres from the property. The hotel consists of 64 guest rooms. New Garden underwent renovation in 2021.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We have just returned from 17 nights at the New Garden Luna side and we had a fantastic experience . This was our 3rd year of spending our summer holiday there and it has got better each time.
Just to address some of the negative things i have read in other reviews . I would always say do your research before going some where and yes you do pay for air con , safe, Wi-Fi but that is pretty much standard across all hotels i have seen in that area. This is also clearly stated in a number of reviews so should not be a surprise and when you off sett it against what you are paying for the holiday you are still getting a great deal. The hotel also does not have a lift so mobility requirement's need to be taken into consideration before you book. You are also 10-15 mins walk from the main strip in either direction should you wish to go out shopping and out for food and drinks.
The accommodation is basic but clean and to be honest we only want to sleep in the room. It is spacious if you get a 1 bedroom apartment and you get a decent view of the pool. I would say you can do your self basic food but you wont have the equipment to cook full blown meals. The only recommendation i would make is some soft close mechanisms for the doors as the do slam shut and it can be a little annoying. It would also be nice to have a laundry room for long stays . I know they do have a laundry service for 30 euros but we would prefer the option to do our own washing at times .
the restaurant serves very good food at decent prices , yes its a little more expensive than if you walk down into the town but you are paying the extra for the convenience of eating in the hotel and not having to walk any where . The chef was very helpful and did accommodate our children's request for things that were slightly off the menu. This is the same for the bar , yes sightly more expensive than in the town or the shop but your paying a little bit more for the convenience which i have no issue with. On our last day the chef also made us up food to take to the airport which was great so we did not have to fight through lines and MacDonalds and KFC for massively overpriced food.
The pool area is clean and you can always get sun beds , the pool is the same depth from one end to the other which is nice and there is a little children's pool for toddlers to play in which is nice. It is kept very clean and cleaned morning and night. The pool area is open from 8 am - 6 pm to accommodate this . There is also a small children's play area just off from the main pool.
The biggest plus point on the hotel is the staff , from the reception to the bar staff and the cleaners and cooks they are all fantastic . I have to give a massive thanks to Melissa , Omar and Mo who were amazing with their service and interaction with my whole family. We came away with what felt like an amazing experience, my children absolutely loved the fun interaction and conversation and cant wait to go back .
The hotel also offers a bus service down to the Copa beach which is nice , there is a grass area and sand area to base yourself on and they do sunbed service for drinks and food and there is a nice restaurant , yes again the prices are higher than the hotel or the main town but you have to expect that right by a beach.
All in all its a great place to have a holiday
We had been to this apartment in July and the management was very unhelpful we still managed to have a reasonable holiday, thanks to Barat a man that worked for the massage shop going above and beyond to help us out. We thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt and as the coffee was like old stewed socks we brought out own kettle and coffee packets for breakfast, Upon sitting down to have breakfast we were told the management would not supply us hot water and we couldn't bring our own down, I spoke to the manager as we are both disabled and I was told it was no good for his business, I even offered to pay for hot water and told once again it was no good for business, so at that point for the sake of a few cups of hot water we spent nothing on any breakfasts or drinks, I estimate he lost about £500+ in breakfast and drinks, is that good business sense, I did try and explain this to him but he was far to arrogant, on the positive side buying all the same things else where cost us about £250 so please carry on with your business plan and see how long you last or get a decent coffee machine that makes proper coffee, people on holiday want to feel respected after all we pay your wages, and we felt like cash cows, nope sorry, We will not be coming back, the fridge was falling apart , some of the staff were lovely but under bad management need I say anymore
Pros - The cleaners were excellent. My room and the pool area and sun beds were always kept lovely and clean. My room was good for the price paid and a good size . The bed was very comfortable. There’s a free bus the beach every day.
Cons - The manager was not very nice and had a bad attitude. The other staff were nice so I tried to avoid him. The food and drinks were expensive. The food was nice , but I felt over priced. One of the bar man gives his number out to all the women which is unprofessional. Right next to the hotel they keep roosters which start crowing at 3am in the morning then every half an hour. It kept me awake every day and I was exhausted. Tip- I had to buy a towel to sit by the pool and was charged 600 lira at the hotel shop. I later saw the same towel at A101 for 100 lira . So take your own or buy elsewhere as you can’t use the towel from the room.
I normally do not leave long reviews, but after this stay I feel people should know what they are booking.
The biggest issue for us was not even one single incident, but the way this hotel is run. Reception was unreliable, complaints were handled badly and the cleanliness was nowhere near the standard you should expect.
The receptionist was regularly missing from the desk, even though the hotel advertises 24-hour reception. More than once we had to ask other staff members where he was. Apparently even doing that was a problem, because the next day we were told off for asking the bartenders where the receptionist had gone.
One morning our room had not been cleaned at all. When we went downstairs to ask about it, the receptionist was not even at reception. He was standing two floors higher on a balcony, shouting down at us. Instead of coming down and dealing with the problem, he kept repeating “tomorrow, tomorrow”. He then said he would come downstairs, so we waited. Around 20 minutes later he still had not appeared.
The following day the situation somehow got turned around on us. Instead of addressing the fact that the room had not been cleaned, we were confronted for being angry. We were also accused of refusing housekeeping, which was completely false. Nobody had come to our room in the first place.
This was the pattern during the whole stay: raise a problem and instead of getting help, you end up in an argument.
We also witnessed behaviour from reception that we found completely inappropriate for someone working in a hotel. The receptionist had his girlfriend there during his shift, was drinking with her and later disappeared to a room while reception was left unattended. On another occasion he seemed to have been drinking as well.
The room itself was another disappointment. There were stains, visible mould and the bathroom and shower were not properly clean. Towels were only changed every few days. For a hotel, the hygiene was simply poor.
There were also cats and kittens everywhere around the property. The animals themselves were cute, but food was left around the hotel for them and we saw cats drinking directly from the swimming pool. That did not exactly make the place feel cleaner.
Another thing people should be aware of is the extra charges. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi are charged separately every day. If you stay for two weeks, the air conditioning alone can cost around €100 extra. The Wi-Fi itself worked well, but paying extra for basic facilities like this is still disappointing.
The food was also expensive for what you get.
The only staff members who actually made a positive difference were the bartenders. They were friendly, helpful and tried to make guests feel welcome. Mo especially was great and deserves credit.
We also booked the spa, hammam and massage package. The massage and hammam were actually very good, but even there we had an issue. Treatments we had not requested were added during the massage and afterwards we were asked to pay extra for them. We had already explained exactly what we wanted before starting, so this felt very misleading.
For us, the negative experiences completely outweighed the positives. Poor hygiene, extra charges, an absent and unprofessional reception and a complete inability to handle complaints properly.
I would not stay here again and I would not recommend it to others.
What you are about to read has probably already been mentioned in other reviews, because unfortunately, all of this seems to be considered “normal” at this hotel.
First of all, you have to pay separately for both air conditioning and Wi-Fi every day. If you stay for two weeks, you can easily spend around €100 just on air conditioning. To be fair, we had no complaints about the Wi-Fi itself.
The staff experience was extremely disappointing. The bartenders were the exception and genuinely made our stay more enjoyable, especially Mo, who really stood out for being friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience with the reception staff was completely different.
We found the receptionist extremely unprofessional and unfriendly. At one point, the receptionist had invited his girlfriend over during his shift, had drinks with her, and later went to a room with her, leaving nobody at reception. On another occasion, he also appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Whenever we reported a problem, instead of trying to find a solution, the reception staff would immediately argue with us and make it seem as though everything was our fault. The defensive attitude you can see in some of the hotel’s responses to negative reviews is exactly the same attitude we experienced in person.
One situation in particular was completely unacceptable. Our room had not been cleaned, so I went to reception to ask what had happened. The receptionist was not even at the reception desk. He was two floors above me, shouting down from a balcony. When I tried to speak to him about the issue, he clearly did not want to have a proper conversation and simply shouted, “Yes, yes, tomorrow, tomorrow.” I told him I wanted to discuss it properly, and he said he would come downstairs. After waiting for around 20 minutes, nobody came.
The next day, instead of apologising or trying to resolve the problem, I was confronted about the fact that I had been angry. I was even told that I was not allowed to ask the bartenders where the receptionist was. This was ridiculous considering the reception was supposed to be available 24/7, yet in our experience the receptionist was absent most of the time.
Regarding the room cleaning itself, we were later told that we had supposedly refused housekeeping, even though nobody had come to our room. Again, instead of listening to us or checking what had happened, the blame was immediately put on us.
The overall hygiene was also poor. Our hotel room had stains in several places and visible mould. The bathroom and shower were not cleaned properly, and fresh towels were only provided every three days. In my opinion, this is simply not acceptable for a hotel.
There were also kittens and cats all around the property. While they were very cute, it did not feel hygienic to see cat food left around different areas of the hotel or cats drinking directly from the swimming pool.
Food at the hotel was quite expensive. Again, the bartenders did their best to accommodate our wishes and were one of the few positive parts of our stay.
We also booked the hotel’s spa, wellness and hammam package. The hammam and massage themselves were actually very good and relaxing. However, during the massage, extra treatments were performed that we had not asked for, and afterwards they tried to charge us extra for them. We had clearly explained beforehand exactly what we wanted, so this was very frustrating.
Overall, the hotel was unhygienic, the service at reception was unprofessional, and complaints were handled very poorly. Instead of feeling listened to as paying guests, we often felt blamed or dismissed whenever we raised a problem.
The bartenders and the spa experience were the main positives, but unfortunately they were nowhere near enough to make up for everything else.
If I could give one piece of advice, don’t waste your holiday time at new garden side.
