Very disappointing experience for a 5-star hotel.
Very disappointing experience for a 5-star hotel.
We have stayed at several 5-star resorts in Antalya, and unfortunately Calyptus was by far the weakest. In our opinion, the overall standard is closer to 3–3.5 stars.
The main problems were cleanliness, maintenance and hygiene. We found dust in the room, the balcony door did not close properly, water leaked from the shower onto the bathroom floor, and the air conditioning did not work as expected.
More seriously, on two different occasions we found food trays containing hairs and asked the staff to remove them. In the snack area, cut fruit, especially watermelon, was left exposed with flies and bees on it. The carpets throughout the hotel were also very dirty.
The drinks were low to average quality and certainly not what we expected from a premium 5-star all-inclusive hotel. Coca-Cola in glass bottles was only available in the lobby, while elsewhere drinks were mainly served from dispensers.
The hotel is also not very convenient for families with small children. There is no proper stroller ramp over the bridge, the alternative route near the pool is narrow and often wet, and the children’s playground is in direct sunlight and difficult to use during the day. The sunbeds are also extremely close together, with very little personal space.
Most of the staff were polite and helpful, and we especially appreciated the housekeeping lady assigned to our room, who was responsive whenever we needed something. However, outside reception, communication in English was often very difficult.
The most worrying part of our stay was that several members of our group became ill.
Our 5-year-old daughter had to go to hospital and was diagnosed with gastroenterovirus. My wife also developed enterocolitis, with vomiting and a very poor general condition, and had to spend one day in hospital.
A 1-year-old baby travelling with us developed a fever after the first day. In another family, a 1-year-old child developed a fever and a 5-year-old had stomach problems. In a third family, a 5-year-old girl developed a fever of around 39.5°C together with vomiting and diarrhoea.
We cannot say without a proper medical investigation that these illnesses were caused by the hotel or the food. However, considering that several people in our group developed gastrointestinal symptoms and fever during the same stay, together with the hygiene issues we personally observed in the food areas, we were understandably very concerned.
Overall, we do not feel the 5-star rating is justified. Compared with other 5-star hotels in Antalya where we have stayed, this was unfortunately our most disappointing experience.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Animation team are really helpful and welcoming.
All-Inclusive Perfect — With a Twist 😁
Our first option was Kirman Calyptus.
Newly refurbished, with a large room and a proper full-size child’s bed — roughly 1 × 2 metres. The room was well equipped, with a pillow menu and a rather modest minibar.
Our balcony faced the pool, with a beautiful view of the mountains and the sunrise. After 8 p.m. the mountains disappeared, but the children’s party certainly didn’t — until around 10. Fortunately, the excellent windows buffered about 95% of the noise.
Housekeeping was good and the room was cleaned every day, complete with the traditional swans made out of our sheets. The only mystery was the extraordinarily powerful room detergent or air freshener. Whatever it was, subtlety was not among its ingredients.
The restaurant was large, with a pleasant pergola overlooking the pools and a very good variety of traditional food, cheeses, fresh fruit and drinks. The tulum cheese was outstanding.
And congratulations to the chef for the lamb. It set a new standard.
The waiters were friendly and helpful, but clearly outnumbered and somewhat tired. On several occasions we simply got up and fetched our own drinks. This was not a problem of attitude; it looked very much like a problem of staffing.
And then...
The beach.
I would describe it as a claustrophobic city bus with a sand floor, casually parked against the wall of a beach-plasticware shop — beach bar included.
The beach itself was thankfully about 70% free of stones, but even getting diagonally to the water meant negotiating the watersports driveway, where boats and jet skis were happily revving their engines.
An excellent joke at our expense.
This was ultimately the reason we requested a transfer to Kirman Sidemarin.
And here Calyptus deserves genuine praise. The front desk handled our request beautifully: fluent German, extremely polite, and the transfer was arranged smoothly and without drama.
We had one more excellent Turkish coffee, and off we went.
So, would I recommend Calyptus?
Yes — but to a very specific guest.
Calyptus should embrace what it actually does extremely well and market itself unapologetically to families with babies and toddlers:
Wake up → eat → pool → sleep → eat → pool → eat → sleep.
Perfect.
Baby happy. Parents happy.
The rooms are modern and comfortable, the food is very good, the staff are kind and the pools work perfectly for this type of holiday.
But please give the hotel an elegant pier or a genuinely good beach solution.
Or simply say you don’t own a beach.
The present beach setup is nonsense and creates disappointment in what is otherwise a very competent family resort.
Would I return personally?
Probably not — because the beach matters too much to me.
But Calyptus isn't a bad hotel.
It is actually a good hotel trying to pretend it has something it doesn't.
Fix that contradiction, and it makes perfect sense.

Brilliant holiday
Absolutely perfect holiday from start to finish we couldn’t have asked for better! The staff are so warm, friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome every single day, and the entertainment team are absolutely amazing with so much fun for all ages. The slides are brilliant and kept my kids entertained for hours, kids club runs from 10 till 11 pm the food is delicious with so much variety, and the free ice cream all day long is an absolute dream Everything is spotlessly clean, the atmosphere is happy and relaxed, and as a mum travelling with three kids I’ve felt so looked after and comfortable here. We would return also September weather 38 degrees hot
