Maya World Park

This was our first holiday in Turkey. We know lots of people who regularly go on all-inclusive holidays in Antalya and have had amazing experiences, which is why we were so excited. Unfortunately, this hotel was a huge disappointment from the moment we arrived.

We were initially given a ground floor room in one of the villa blocks outside the main hotel. As soon as we walked in, the smell of damp and mould was overwhelming. It was so bad that I immediately went to reception and asked to be moved. We were given another room in the same building, just on the opposite side. While the smell wasn't quite as strong, it was still depressing, tired and dirty.

The room was in a shocking state. The fridge was filthy inside and out and I had to clean it myself. The bathroom was grimy, the bedroom blinds were broken, there were ants crawling around the walls, and there was even a pile of broken plaster from the ceiling sitting in the corner of the room.

The following morning I asked again to be moved, this time to a room inside the main hotel building, but was told the hotel was full. At that point my husband was already looking at flights home.

The waiting staff were generally friendly and hardworking, but the reception staff were rude and unhelpful whenever we raised concerns.

The food was another disappointment. It was largely the same every day and very bland. The pools themselves were fine, but the surrounding areas looked tired, with many of the loungers and seating faded, worn and in some cases broken.

Another major issue was the complete lack of evening entertainment. Once dinner was over, your options were either to leave the complex and find something to do elsewhere or go back to your room. Unfortunately, given the condition of our room, that wasn't exactly appealing.

One incident particularly concerned us. During the day I returned to our room to collect something and found that a gardener had let himself in to plug equipment into a socket in our room for use outside. He had left the patio doors wide open. Anyone could have walked straight in. It didn't make us feel safe knowing staff appeared to have no issue entering guest rooms whenever they wanted. We also heard from other guests that items had allegedly gone missing from their rooms during their stay.

The alcohol selection was poor and there was little information about what was actually being served. It appeared to be mostly local brands of questionable quality.

My biggest piece of advice is this: read the negative reviews carefully. I ignored them because the hotel had an overall rating of around 4.0 when we booked. Having now stayed here, I genuinely cannot understand how it has achieved that score. Our experience was so far removed from a 4-star review that it left us questioning whether some of the positive reviews are genuine.

I don't write reviews lightly, but this was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. We can confidently say that we would not return, even if someone paid us to.

Lokmann was great at organising a few excursions for us and was very informative. All staff were super friendly, food was good, hotel was very clean. Would definitely recommend and come back
