I stayed at Kaya Belek for one week as a solo traveller. My final impression is somewhere in the middle: the hotel delivered the basic things I came for — all-inclusive food, direct access to a sandy beach and sea, a gym, and everything necessary for a resort holiday — but there are several things I would want to know before booking, especially as a solo traveller from Central Europe.

First, the hotel is OLD and visibly worn. The furniture, fittings, and some repairs look dated or are sometimes fixed in rather creative ways. 😄 HOWEVER, I KNEW THIS BEFORE MY ARRIVAL and I do not consider this a major reason to complain. We live in a time when hotel photos, traveller photos, reviews, and even AI searches make it extremely easy to research a property before booking. The age of Kaya Belek is not exactly hidden. If you book it expecting a newly renovated luxury resort without checking photos first, that is partly your own responsibility. Despite its age, everything I personally needed was usable and functional.

I also don't want to comment too much on my room because I was extremely lucky and received an upgrade that doesn't represent what another solo traveller should normally expect. Kaya Belek, thank you for my enormously big room with a direct sea view. ❤️ It was an upgrade that I did not expect.

For me, the bigger issue was SERVICE CONSISTENCY. English knowledge was much more limited than I expected from a five-star international resort. Some of the younger staff working around the beach and beach bar spoke basic English well, and there was also a gentleman working in the main restaurant outside whose English was perfectly sufficient. However, with quite a lot of other restaurant/service staff, even simple requests could become unnecessarily difficult. Staff friendliness also varied enormously — some were warm and helpful, while the majority of others barely greeted guests.

My strongest main restaurant recommendation is: EAT IN THE OUTSIDE AREA whenever possible. The outside section is significantly calmer, less crowded and, in my experience, better served. The indoor part of the main restaurant can become extremely noisy and crowded during peak breakfast and dinner times. If you want a quieter experience, arrive near the beginning of the meal period rather than at peak time.

I never actually ate lunch in the main restaurant. The so-called beach snack bar from 12:00 - 15:30 already offered enough food to function as a proper lunch for me, so there was simply no reason to go inside again.

Regarding the food, I should be fair: I did NOT go into full buffet-discovery mode. My normal diet is already very fish-heavy, so throughout the week I mostly chose grilled fish, vegetables, and fruit. There were many chicken and turkey dishes and a huge amount of other food that I simply did not try.

The fish was generally good and there was always plenty of raw salad and vegetables. What I personally missed was more variety of WARM COOKED VEGETABLES. At lunch at the beach there were grilled zucchinis, mushrooms, peppers, but for dinner there were perhaps one or two purely vegetable warm dishes, while many other cooked vegetables were mixed with chicken or turkey. Since I was already eating fish, I was looking for simple warm vegetables on the side. The only grilled vegetables I saw every day were peppers and tomatoes.

A small but surprisingly persistent irritation: the table knives are extremely blunt. Fish is manageable, but cutting cucumbers, fruit, or getting grapefruit out of its skin becomes unnecessarily difficult. It sounds minor, but when you encounter it at every meal for a week, you notice it.

The BEACH itself was one of the main reasons I booked and it delivered what I wanted: sandy beach, warm sea, and easy access. I never stayed at the pool as it is very family-based. However, sunbeds on the beach can become crowded from 10AM on, be early to get a good position for yourself. If you want a little quieter place at the beach I recommend - GO TO THE VERY LEFT END OF THE BEACH. 🏖️

The EVENING ENTERTAINMENT was my biggest negative. On some nights the music was so loud that even inside my room with the balcony door closed it interfered with my phone conversations and television. For a resort with so many babies and young children, I found the volume completely excessive. Interestingly, on other evenings it was kept at a perfectly reasonable level — which proves that the events do not need to be unbearably loud.

The hotel is extremely FAMILY-ORIENTED. If you travel with young children, this may be exactly what you want. As a solo adult looking primarily for peace, it was not the ideal environment for me. Good but not ideal.

Another practical point for sporty guests: the gym opens together with the spa at 08:00, which I found unnecessarily late — gym access could easily be available earlier. I therefore did most of my bodyweight workouts in the room before breakfast and only used the gym twice during the day for cardio; the gym itself was perfectly adequate for that. Nothing special but OK. There are also activities such as beach volleyball organized by the entertainment team, so guests who want something more social definitely have that option. As a solo traveller, however, my goal was specifically to relax on my own rather than join group activities, so I personally did not take part.

Wi-Fi worked fine throughout my stay. That said, I still do not regret buying an Airalo unlimited eSIM for 7 days for €22 — it worked perfectly on Turk Telekom 5G, including when using my phone as a hotspot for my iPad on the beach as I also had some work to do.😅

One more thing that is difficult to describe without sounding unfair: the GUEST CULTURE during my stay was very different from what I am used to in Central Europe. The hotel had a very international guest mix, with a particularly large Russian-speaking and Turkish-speaking presence. Cultural norms around shared spaces were sometimes noticeably different from what I am accustomed to — for example, people stepping directly in front of others at buffets, not making space when passing, little acknowledgement in lifts or shared areas, and generally less personal-space awareness. This is not something I would blame the hotel for, and obviously it does not describe every guest. But it materially affected my experience. I personally found the behaviour of some guests more tiring than the age of the hotel itself.

That is also why I think the type of traveller matters enormously here. If your idea of a resort holiday is busy family entertainment, large buffets, lots of people and constant activity, Kaya Belek may suit you perfectly. My own idea of a resort holiday is more: PEACE, COURTESY AND FEELING A LITTLE SPOILED. 😇

For that, I have personally had consistently better experiences in Egypt — including warmer hospitality and, surprisingly, often at a lower price.

Would I return to Kaya Belek? Probably not. That does not mean it is a terrible hotel. It simply was not the best match for me.

I came for unlimited food, direct beach access, the sea, a gym, and a week away. I received all of that, and I enjoyed parts of the stay very much. But at the price point, I expected more consistency in service, better communication in English, and a considerably calmer overall atmosphere.

3 stars feels fair to me: functional, enjoyable in parts, but with enough drawbacks that I would choose differently next time. ⸻

We really liked the children's entertainment area. Our children had a great time. The staff is very attentive, especially Mr. Cengiz at the aquapark. We will come again next year with our friends. We really liked it.
