Crystal Paraiso Verde Resort and Spa

The best location, the best programme for the Kids, a lot of fun for Kids, and everything is very good

After an approximately 80-minute shuttle bus ride, we arrived in the early hours and were attentively shown to our standard room in Block 3, where we quickly got our heads down.

On inspection the following morning, we found the room to be clean, although the decor was looking a little tired. Unfortunately, the bed linen had holes in it, and the blanket was rough and not large enough to sleep under comfortably. We therefore used an additional sheet when necessary. The shower was adequate, although it drained very slowly, so to avoid flooding the bathroom, washed my hair in the sink.

The hotel is in a great location, next to a nature reserve and within a short walk of the beach. There is also a regular hotel shuttle to and from the beach for anyone who has difficulty walking.

This is clearly a very family-oriented hotel, with plenty of activities around the pool and a kids’ club, trying to portray a fun atmosphere. As a couple, however, we were mainly looking for a holiday where we could relax and unwind, so we particularly appreciated the time we spent around the relaxation pool and at the beach.

Overall cleanliness around the hotel was somewhat hit and miss. We noticed that many of the hand-soap dispensers were not working correctly and that some of the toilet flushes were faulty. There was an abundance of staff who appeared to be doing their best, although uniforms were looking very tired. Some staff were extremely keen to help, while others appeared rather disinterested.

The food was plentiful but, unfortunately, average in quality and consistently lukewarm, verging on cold. Staff were also very quick to clear plates, and on a couple of occasions attempted to clear them before we had even finished eating. The à la carte restaurants were better, although the service there also felt rather rushed.

We made full use of the Spa and Wellness Centre during our stay, and all of the staff there were superb. They were knowledgeable, attentive and communicated exceptionally well. It was a shame that we did not experience the same level of service consistently throughout the rest of the hotel.

Overall, we felt the hotel was average and certainly not what we would consider five-star. That said, we made the best of our holiday and were able to enjoy some relaxing time despite the shortcomings.
