Very disappointing experience — don’t be misled by the photos

I really hope this review helps someone avoid wasting their time and money. I just come back from a six-night stay here with my family. There are three adults in our group, and we came from London. We travel to all-inclusive resorts every year, so we have plenty of experience with 5-star hotels.

We booked this hotel because the photos showed three proper beds. Instead, we were given a room with two twin beds and one old, temporary-looking extra bed with a bent, squeaky frame.

At check-in, we were given two keys, accompanied by a strange comment that normally only one key is provided but that we were being “upgraded” to two. Even worse, I was subjected to a racist “Chinese” joke, with staff saying things like “ching chang chong” while addressing me. I wanted to confront them and ask whether they realised how racist and offensive that was, but I decided not to ruin the holiday further.

When we got to the room, I was disappointed with the bed, so I gave the bellboy €5 and asked if it could be changed. Nobody came, so I eventually went down to reception myself to request a different bed.

They did change it — unfortunately, to an even worse one.

The replacement bed was so old and unstable that it squeaked every time I moved. I literally woke up almost every hour throughout the night because of the noise. I even recorded the sound as evidence.

They told us they would change our room, but asked us to put up with the uncomfortable bed for just one more night, so I agreed and endured it. The next day, I went back to reception and asked again to change rooms, but I was told once again that there were no rooms available and that I should come back at another time.

I showed the receptionist the room I had originally booked and pointed out that the room they had given us was completely different from what was advertised. At that point, the receptionist’s expression suddenly became very serious. There was no apology or attempt to address my concerns. Instead, the staff member seemed annoyed and angry, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.

What was supposed to be a relaxing summer holiday has turned into a horrible experience.

We booked this hotel for a full week, and I honestly struggle to find anything positive to say. The food is disappointing, with very little that we actually enjoyed eating. The beds are uncomfortable, the reception staff have been unfriendly, and the overall attitude has made us feel unwelcome.

We have stayed at other 5-star hotels in Belek twice before, each time for a week, and those experiences were excellent. That is actually why we decided to return to Belek. Unfortunately, this hotel has been a huge disappointment in comparison.

There have also been uncomfortable experiences with other guests. We have been asked whether we are Chinese, and while walking past, some guests have shouted things like “Konichiwa” and laughed. Whether they think it is a joke or not, it is offensive and makes us feel uncomfortable throughout our stay.

If you have a choice, I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. Don’t let the beautiful photos convince you to book it. Our experience has been the complete opposite of what the pictures suggest.
