Two week stay at the Hotel Monopol. Was even better than last year, room 140 is a must with a fantastic balcony and sea view. Staff as always very polite and welcoming and Don Carlos staff I will miss my coffee and cakey in the morning, and watch the world go by.

Room in desperate need of repairs/updating
We booked this hotel because of its location to the centre and we were visiting the Octoberfest. The hotel itself is very nice with a centre courtyard that has climbing trees growing up the wooden balconies. The Breakfast buffet was quite good, providing all that you need to start the day. The room however is a different story! Although clean it was very dated. The bed moved with every turn and the mattress sloped inwards. There was no hot water for the three days we were there, it was slightly windy outside sometimes and the old aluminium window frames rattled in there mounts so needed to be jammed with folded paper to prevent movement. The sink unit in the bathroom had a list to the left of about 15% and the tiles were losing their white porcelain covering. I would not book here again due to the state of the room.
Brilliant staff and location
The location was amazing, I would definitely recommend a visit here. With the old habour area at one end of the street with Plazo Charco, its right in the heart of the old town. The area, which is pedestrainised, right in front of the hotel is great too. There was a busker outside the hotel for a good deal of my holiday. The hotels bar area with seating outside was really good and the waiting staff were all attentive and friendly. The staff in general was really nice and friendly whever they were encountered on reception, or housekeeping. The room I was allocated was certainly adequate for my needs with a fridge to keep drinks cool, a safe that you had to pay extra for and a room fan which I didn't need. Note the hotel does not have air conditioning. There was a bathroom with all the usual facilities which had had the worst of the mould covered up and an indoor courtyard that I didn't use. The hotel's pool area was very nice and although there wasn't anyone situated at the bar area you could easily order a drink to have around the pool. There were always plenty of sunbeds when I was there. I would say it is good value for money if the accomodation is just used as a base. The rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff were very good. I wasn't bothered by any noise at all. If you were street side that might be a different matter. To sum up great location; super clean, although accomodation a little tired and could do with refurbishment. Would I return - yes definitely.
